Water temperature is the driver between the winter and prespawn and drives bass movement in response. Blaukat shares two key areas to find bass on highland reservoirs and ties two different baits to each based on their performance attributes (namely running depth). He then explains where he's had the most success finding bass on southern impoundments and lakes dominated by grass and sand. Larger, more aggressive jerkbaits get his nod here.
And while he does jerkbait fish with spinning gear, Blaukat details his go-to casting rod setup and line preference based on the situation.

@@joshwhite8055 I respect Randy. I think he mostly cares for the sport and future of fishing, even if he occasionally contradicts himself. He’s a good guy who has sponsor obligations. It’s part of being a professional fisherman I suppose.

I've watched his and Jonny's channel for over a year now and this video contradicted everything that has come out of his mouth over the last 14 months concerning fishing jerk baits with spinning rod setups and "Video Game Fishing" . I've watched Randy for years , no one can take from him how good of a fisherman he is or his role in The vision 110 but with that being said .... This just struck me the wrong way that's all

I got a video to reason's you shld never use a bait caster.......I didn't make it nor did I feed it to the public....not to mention line size retrieve ...guess this were I need to buy a seminar or guided trip 🤔
When I go 🎣 and catch my fish, I always use a 1/16 oz. yo-zuri pins minnows and a gold flame color. Works all the time. I catch some nice big ones, medium sized ones and some small ones too. also I catch a lot of trout, crappies, perch, smallmouth and largemouth bass. Anyway I don't care what size I catch or how many I catch at all.
As long as I'm out there enjoying myself and having fun that all that matters to me.

I thought you said you fished jerkbaits on spinning rods exclusively. Now I’m confused.
This was filmed back in 2019 so it may be the Randy has shifted his rod setups since that time.

I guess the only thing most people got from this is Randy has a jerk bait tied on a baitcaster... he's a great jerk bait fisherman and who cares if he's been spotted in public with a jerk bait tied to the end of the "banned" baitcaster 👍🎣
I like throwing light JBs on my spinning gear too, Randy. The mid and deep lures on my baitcasters for distance and depth from the bank.
What would you do if it hasn’t got below 50 winter water temp got to 55 one week then back to 60
