The Darkblade thing was actually an insult specifically to Malus from his father. Since the Dark Elves still use Ithilmar like their cousins and that metal is naturally very shiny and silver-like( Which they then paint black because they're all edgelords. Seriously I would love to hear the conversation with their artillery crews right after The Sundering" Okay guys were turning all of our Eagle Claw Bolt Throwers sideways and calling them Reapers now. Why? Because Fall Out Boy doesn'y exist here and Malekith needs to get his goth cred up.") Anyway Ithilmar is very shiny and if it has any dark spots in it that means that there was a defect or mistake in the creation process and now the blade is inherently weak, they then call them darkblades so that everyone knows that the weapons are weak, worthless and of no real use to anyone. Yeah he's real Father of the Year material.
That is legitimately interesting lore I would have worked in had I known any of it. Did you pull it from the novels?

It's when he's in his father's throne room and he's giving exposition about his family and his dad's grabbing everyone he doesn't like by the face with that runic- torture-glove-thing. Same time he talks about how he wants to pull a Malekith with his sister Yasmine. Ha it just occurred to me that his dad calling him Malus Darkblade is the equivalent of naming him Joe Dirt.

Well he was written by Dan Abnett, one of the best Warhammer 40k authors known for Gaunt's Ghosts. So it wouldn't surprise me to why he's such an interesting character.
Mike Lee did the most writing, Dan Abnett was an Advisor.

Elric is incredibly relevant to nerdshit being one of Moorcock's creations. The main difference between him and Malus is the demon's in Malus's head rather than the sword.

Dark Elves don't have guns, instead they have repeater crossbows basically wielded like guns. Also Malus is Latin for bad/negative/evil which just sharpens his edge.

I give him a hard time here for a joke, but the Malus Darkblade series is widely loved and praised. And I'd recommend it to anyone looking to read further into Warhammer.

I think the Dark Elves would be 'American' seeing as so many of them also have projectile weapons. The high elves? I'm not sure who they would be with all their court intrigue and top tier weapons and economy. Some of that also fits with being American, also that they are arrogant. But the high elves actually have good reasons to be arrogant. Most would like to join them on their pretty island, it's so nice there. IRL, very few if they had the choice, would pick America to move to. It's a beautiful place to visit with warm people, but the country puts business before her people, and the internal violence happens way too much for a developed nation. Wow, I really didn't mean to go down this rabbit hole, but I'm not deleting it or the few minutes spent writing it would be wasted.
I thiiink the high elves might be somewhat based off of early 1700's france with some Atlantean myths and of course tolkienan and Moorcock influence thrown in for flavor.
As a Canadian who really liked the Malus books growing up I gotta say, the Dark Elves are Canadians is not an angle I ever expected to here.... pretty fucking odd

The Dark Elves were alot like the entire world for along time. It is a bit different however; the Dark Elves capture all their slaves, instead of buying most of them from their own people. Unless there is some really messed up lore in WH that I am missing... and as one of the few people who enjoys both fantasy and 40K- I probably am.
