This is excellent! I think this is one of James MacArthur's finest roles. I'm married to a lovely man (we've been together for 36 years, married for the last 31 years) who has a speech impediment (stutter). Luckily he's always been treated with love by his family and friends. He's talented (engineering), hard working and is very funny. He's my best friend and rock and while he still has his impediment, he's confident enough to use the phone (he hated using the phone for years and had me make calls for him) and communicate. I wouldn't want to be with anyone else, so thank you David for being my love and for the the last wonderfully adventurous 36 years.

A fine production of ALL of the actors. Ms.Farmer, was quite an actress, and I am so glad I was able to view this special with her in it.Mr.MacArthur was very good in his role, also.Thank you,for sharing this, very much.
Margaret O'Brien, what a bottomless well of tears she had; in all the roles she played, she cried, and cried, and cried... As someone suffering from speech impediment, I can tell you the pressure people put on you to get better is maybe the cause of the problem. Ben was speaking perfectly with the cow at the beginning of the movie. Animal put no pressure on us, except when they want something to eat :-)

So nice to see Margaret when she was 21. I love all the movies she made as a child. She had a crying scene in most of her movies and sure enough they have her crying in this drama. Thanks for uploading this film. Great performances by all the cast. James MacArthur was the same age as Margaret. He was in 3 Disney films: The Light in the Forest, Kidnapped, Swiss Family Robinson and he starred with Hayley Mills in The Truth About Spring. He was in a lot of movies and TV shows and of course in Hawaii Five-0 for 11 seasons. Leon Ames was one of the most prolific character actors in film and TV and it must have been fun for Margaret to work with him in this drama since he played her father in Meet Me in St Louis and Little Women. So glad this has been preserved, now for all the world to enjoy.

In regards to the story I can say from personal experiences that stammering is horrible. I stuttered so bad when I was a kid in school that I used to get picked on all the time. I was in the 8th grade when this excellent movie came out. I don't know if I saw it then but it sure as hell brought back old memories. After numerous doctors and a few self-help books nothing helped. I went to a church healing service and that was the end of my stammering. I read Frances farmers story, if I ever see tomorrow, I could never forget what she had to go through, and the women she grew to be in spite of the horrors she went through at that mental hospital, very courageous and strong women,

This is a great upload. Though the TV-movie may be boxed-in, the picture quality is literally to die for. And, what a lineup of veterans to make this movie memorable: Frances Farmer, Margaret O'Brien and James MacArthur in this rare 1958 outing. I did hear about Ms. Farmer being a great actress, but my only knowledge of her comes from the 80's movie version on her life "Frances" played to perfection by the wonder actress, Jessica Lange. Yes, Margaret was more of a success as a child artiste than as an adult. Still she was quite pretty. MacArthur was memorable in The light in the forest with Carol Lynley.

Interesting backstory on how James MacArthur came to play this role. Playwright John Vlahos and MacArthur's mother (Miss Helen Hayes) had the same agent. She was asked to read the script and offer her evaluation. She learned it was going to be produced as an episode for Studio One. This prompted her to call her son and urge him to cut his vacation short and return to Los Angeles to audition for the role of Ben Adams.
