Barnaby Chase on One Hit Mode (Billie Bust Up)

- The Billie Bust Up pre-alpha got an update to include one-hit mode for the Barnaby chase, so here it is. Other than removing health pickups to prevent getting above one health it's otherwise hard mode but I suppose being on one health can make it a bit more stressful.
What's playable (this chase and the Fantoccio fight) are fun and have some very catchy songs. Definitely looking forward to the full game!

One dialogue if you die at the start he says "Don't worry I will sing the rest later in the party" something like that
I like how the level design can help with dodging the attacks for the most part. Like it’s not a boss fight it’s like a massive Disney ride
There's also a public demo that has a boss fight with another song but the chase sequence works very well here.

How can i play this demo? I really want to try It out. Either the puppet boss fight or this chase scene.
They appear to have been removed for one-hit mode. I assumed as much to prevent trickiness of getting above one health. :D

Thanks! Once you get the hang of the level there's not much that's too bad. I still mess up in the cage depending on the fireball drops and the electricity spam before the kebab part sometimes gets me (as the way I do it is jump, slight delay, and double jump to clear three at once).

It makes you think the bad guy chasing you prepared the song specifically for a moment like this , or that is very good at improvising things on the run lol

I found this game a couple days ago and the amount of times ive played the song is ridiculous
I have watched so many people play this chase. I’m just so obsessed with how the obstacles and just- everything goes with the music. It’s mesmerizing
As someone fairly local to Disneyland, the terrifying yet non-malicious offer at the core of the song gives me so many Grim Grinning Ghosts and general Haunted Mansion vibes, and I love it. The Ghost Host offers to make you the 100th Happy Haunt of the Mansion (and has fun terrifying you during it, see: the hanging man on the Stretching Room ceiling) but it’s all so you can join the crazy party all the ghosts are joining in. Barnaby wants to off you, but it’s because he thinks ANYONE would want to join the wonderful ghost party he’s throwing and that requires being a ghost! Not to mention having a cool or unique death is probably some kind of ghost bragging right or a fun tale to share at parties, so he’s trying to make things as perfect as possible for you, almost like he’s pulling fancy suits out of his own closet to see which one fits you best.
That's an interesting way of looking at it. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that theory is canon. Have you considered telling MatPat from Game Theorists about your theory?

Barnaby is clearly inspired by Snatcher, similar "build" in being a purple ghost, but very fleshed out and distinct personality from Snatcher.

This feels like someone saw the Snatcher boss fight where someone did lyrics and went "yes... yes I like this _very much_ actually."

2:26 I have never noticed anyone talking about how one of the ghost says "I thought I'd try the guillotine!" But they made a mistake here as Barnaby lip sinks this part. Also the fact you did it without getting hit is amazing! I have never played the pre-alpha before but I can tell it must have been hard!
Iirc, the devs mentioned something in a TikTok comment that Barnaby's lipsync is animated to an older version of the song (possibly the scratch track), where Barnaby was the one singing that line and was just putting on a voice. They're updating his facial animations I believe, they're just taking a break from this part of the game now that it's mostly functional.
I think he’s just putting on a Voice when saying it.

When listening to the early version of the song that shows the script, it's listed as Barnaby singing this line, so he may be putting on a voice, especially since in the cutscene leading up to this, we do see Barnaby remove his own head, so the updated animation (when they come back to it) could show that for this part of the game in the final version P:

A Hat in Time is my favorite game and this bleeds the same energy, even down to the conniving grinning monster that wants you dead.

I've never seen an in-game fight like this, these kinds of musical fights are typically reserved to TV shows.

This game kinda reminds me of A Hat in Time simply because of the health meter and platforming in this game being similar.
The charm and art style also seem familiar, as well as something about Billie's face as well as Barnaby looking somewhat similar to Snatcher.
It reminds me a lot of AHiT.

It makes for a good story that the reason Billie survives is that Barnaby is only offering these deaths and letting her choose. If he thought that she wanted a particular death, he would actually really try.

This is actually really good with the main character Billie runing for her life as Barnaby is chasing after her trying to get her to "Join The Party" which requires her to die! A thrilling chase and a catchy bad guy song- I think this has potiental alright!! Keep it up!! :3
