- Thanks to everyone who suggested this on my Chopper reaction video! After seeing a young Eric Bana at work, it seemed only fair to witness a young Heath Ledger! :)
A 19 year old Heath Ledger stars opposite a young Rose Byrne and the always talented Bryan Brown in this 1999 Australian classic. A lot of you said this was Australia's answer to Guy Ritchie and Tarantino which I get! Great little crime flick with interweaving storylines 😁
The bank robbery scene was such a crack up! Fun watch, especially considering I had never heard of this before!
Crazy to think this was released the same year as 10 Things I Hate About You.
Two Hands (1999) starring Heath Ledger, Bryan Brown, Rose Byrne and David Field

If you want a good Heath Ledger Australian film, watch "Candy" (2006)
Bryan Brown is a legend in his own right. Prolific and well respected Aussie actor
Big US career in late 80s too. Cocktail with Tom Cruise and the FX series among many others
You’re going to absolutely LOVE Mr Inbetween.
It’s a masterpiece
Thank you for reviewing our little Aussie dark humour crime movies & tv series.
Your welcome down under anytime
I'm 3 episodes in and HOOKED. Gonna binge the next 3 episodes today 😁
@@chrissiereacts hope you have a good supply of dimmies
Haha, wait till you see my confusion... I was like, what the heck is a dimmie?! 😅
@@chrissiereacts STOP!!!!
See the movie first! Yes, Ray Shoesmith (Scott Ryan,) was the protagonist of a feature length film before that awesome series, The Magician.
Same actor/writer/director. Comes before the events of the series in the timeline.
Ooh... okay! Thank you!
I did finish season 1 but will watch the movie before jumping in to the next season!
That was Powderfinger playing when the girl shot those blokes, iconic band, iconic song.
Killing it with the Aussie reactions!
Fun fact. Pando is Bryan Brown who plays alongside Tom Cruise in Cocktail.
Terrible movie though
Idiot Box (1996) is a great Aussie crime thriller/comedy starring Ben Mendelsohn
Parts of that movie were made in my home town,me and my mates were about 12 at the time, we were annoying the shit out of them following the crew around town on our pushies just being little ratbags and the main actor was cool as he threw the footy around with us a few times and got us all a can of coke to keep us occupied 2hile they were filming,He was a legend of a bloke
I love Idiot Box!!..
@@nathj4818Ben or Jeremy?
Absolute classic!!
Such a classic!
Rose Byrne, such an underrated actress. My Favourite of hers is Sunshine but yeah she looks like a dream in this one, super pretty and charming
I first saw this film at an indie cinema in Canberra with director Gregor Jordan giving a little talk afterward. He mentioned something about how Rose had broken up with her boyfriend just before or during the shoot, and you could almost hear every guy in the cinema thinking “aha!”. Then he said “she’s now dating me” and you could hear every guy in the cinema thinking “shit”.
I've not seen this in years. Heath, Brian and the cast are fantastic in this. You are the first reactor to this good old Aussie movie
One of the best Australian movies. Cheers x
such a shame it's not known internationally. Whenever I see something about Heath Ledger and a compilation of his films, this is never included. Everyone thinks 10 Things I Hate About You was his his first film
@@naedynot1 we know, Australia knows where Heath really started. THIS!
Cheers mate ❤
This movie is also a biopic of Sydney - Kings Cross, Bondi etc
Ancient history channel now I'm afraid
Eastern Suburbs in the 90s...what a playground.
Different time, different world. All ancient history now, and not for the better, just sterile taxpayers in existence.
11:15 "Yeah, shotties are good mate" became a Aussie saying before memes were memes
Cactus!
along with "this ones gonna be a fuckin rippa"
“candy” with Heath and Geoffrey Rush is definitely worth a watch. Not sure how well known it is but the characters and story are unforgettable. Candy really hits the senses.
Ps. Love watching some ozzie classics again with you.
underrated AMZING movie!
It is also a ripper book and definitely worth a watch and a read
Just a note ,the guy on the phone at the beginning is the same guy who plays Keithy George in the Chopper Movie !
WHAT! 🤯
He Must of done himself a mischief.
Acko
_Well I bashed YOU!_
Damn, you beat me to it.
@@chrissiereacts Rose Byrn played a girl in a wheelchair in a great Aussie teen series called _Heartbreak High_ ~ Dyed hair same as in this. Such a honey.
I have another good Australian movie for you, The Proposition- its a gritty "western" set in Australia.
Written by Nick Cave, no less.
Yes! Thank you. Any cinephile who gets around to seeing this after not knowing of it hails it to the rafters. John Hurt, Danny Huston, Guy Pierce and Ray Winstone all at their peak.
One of my favourites, and yes by Nick Cave.
The song itself is in rotation of my music playlists.
I've never really been a fan of Guy Pierce until I saw this flic
that XA Falcon coupe is a nice Australian car for a ford
The XB coupe (nicer front end to the XA's, like '33's and '34's, the '33's just look meaner) is the second best looking Ford ever stamped, the first is the GT40
Aussie cinema's a real treasure,
Bad Boy Bubby - life changing I promise.
Wake In Fright
Little Deaths
Romper Stomper
Muriel's Wedding
Priscilla Queen of the Desert - loads of great stuff + I'm a Brit ;)
Running on empty 😎
Do you mean The Little Death? That film is hilarious😂
Dogs in Space
@@naedynot1 yes, I do - typo - excellent film :)
Gallipoli
Loving your reactions.👍
One that I love, but haven't seen suggested yet is GETTING SQUARE.
Fantastic cast... David Wenham, Sam Worthington, Timothy Spall, David Field(Acko in Two Hands).
Top movie! 👍👍
✌️🇦🇺
What I love most about this movie is how authentic it feels, obviously they put a more comedic slant on a lot of aspects, but this IS essentially life in the Australian city suburbs.
Highly recommend another early Heath Ledger film: Candy, with Geoffrey Rush and Abbie Cornish. A beautifully made film about some very ugly subject matter with powerhouse acting from everyone involved!
More so in the 90's, a lot has changed since then, and not for the better. I was a teenager when this world existed, I'm glad I'm not a kid now, you know it's 90's by the guns and the car styling etc...
Two Hands loosely based on the Underworld criminal activities in Sydney's Kings Cross in 1980's, 1990's and somewhat early 2000's. Underbelly television series gave us look into the real life Underworld stories with the first series simply titled Underbelly focuses on gangland killings in Melbourne, few years after Chopper then Underbelly: Tale of Two Cities and Underbelly: The Golden Mile focuses on Criminal Underworld of Kings Cross and also tied into this is ABC's Blue Murder from mid 90's of corrupt cop Roger Rogerson and Criminal Arthur "Neddy" Smith
Fun fact, The XA Ford Coupe in the movie is now owned by Australian comedian Merrick Watts
The song “These Days” by Powder Finger that plays in the final shootout scene is beautiful. There’s an amazing version they performed live on their final live performance before they broke up where the crowd all sing along. The actor Tom Long (the one in the flip flops who dies with the marked $100 note on his chest, sadly passed away in 2020 at the age of 51 after a long battle with cancer
Another fun fact, the blonde bouncer who betrays heath is now a professor in a university in Ireland.
"Shotties are good mate." - that phrase became a moral patch in the Aussie Army throughout the GWOT/OEF.
Oh my god, I can't believe a RUclipsr reacted to this movie. Obscure as anything at an international level, but oh such a great Aussie movie. And one of Heath's more memorable performances.
I swear the line where he says 'Yeah shotties are good mate.' was originally 'Yeah shotties are ace.' My mates and I were quoting it for weeks but it's been a long time and I might just be going crazy. But maybe there's been a little dubbing happened for the international release, a la Crocodile Dundee. Couldn't lip read well enough to think the lip movement looked wrong.
Wally's also a guy called Glenn in 'The Dish'. Another fantastic Aussie movie. Sam Neill, Patrick Warburton...
We always quoted the 'Cactus' line, his delivery sells it
The best line is Pando: "geez Jimmy you made my balls look like a couple of pikelets ya bastard". Lol!
Another great film another cool reaction . Heaths dad and uncle used to have a Mazda rotary engine service shop here in Perth Western Australia , there is the Heath Ledger theater complex in Perth , named after he passed
Is his family part of the rotary scene here Aus, I never realised, Aussies have produced some of the fastest rotaries on the planet, unfortunately the Kiwi's have the title at the moment as the goto country for rotaries.
@@kingcosworth2643 Heaths dad Kim raced sprint cars and sedans , the family engineering and performance company Ledger Engineering and Foundry
Awesome another Australian classic film!
Love these Aussie movies. Thanks Chrissie.
Dirty deeds is another good Aussie movie worth watching
I can't help but feel this was the aussie answer to 'Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels.'
Either way, as an aussie, I'm happy with this one.
Goodfellas in flip flops was coined att
Have a look at The Postcard Bandit, one of Australia's most notorious bank robber..
Played by Tom Long (RIP) from Two Hands
Great honest reaction to a great movie. You laughed and gasped at exactly the same moments I did when I saw it 30 odd years ago.
Really enjoyed this.
But 1994 was only 10 years ago... 🤔
@@chrissiereacts
Wow. I have been living _hard_ !
🙂
wow. thanks and hope yo enjoy our Aussie flicks.
Never really watched react channels but your really fun to watch, as someone else mentioned, Mr Inbetween probably the best australian show to ever exist, theres also a movie of it "The Magician" which is the same character just a little younger.
Thank you! Loving Mr. Inbetween so far :)
fun fact: the actor who plays Les is also the voice of the origami teacher on Pando"s TV.
IRL he is head of Asian studies at a University these days
The guy on mobile phone is Keithy George from Chopper as in " Keithy,s done himself a mischief "
just came across your channel. Digging through some of your previous videos. Your reaction to Chopper was amazing. Thanks XX
Oh thank you! 😊
Yay!!! You did it!! Thank you, love your reactions, you have such an honest take 😊
Thank you!! 😁
Just noticed something about this movie. Most of the performers have green or blue eyes. And the young lady who killed everyone at the end had similar facial scars as Heath's character.
Two Hands is one of the best Aussie movies ever made, it perfectly captured what it was like around Sydney in the late 90's/Early 00's.
I liked the dead brother aspect. It was a constant reminder of his mortality and his likely fate. It kind of hits him over the head with the fact that he will probably die on his current trajectory.
I love this movie and Heath ledger ❤
Thank you for this. Makes me want to see it again. Classic.
Bryan Brown - Pando - is excellent as a villain in "Dirty Deeds" that also has a young Sam Worthington, and Sam Neil - and John Goodman
love all the Aussie stuff, I never really see them reviewed on youtube. Subbed :)
Around the same time as Two Hands Hugh Jackman in one of his first films " Paperback Hero" an Australian comedy of sorts he had star quality written all over him, By the way Eric Bana was in a film before Chopper he had a small role in " The Castle" an Aussie classic
Lmao ya gotta love Con the kickboxer 😂👍
Fun fact: the Kid (Helen (Mariel McClorey)) in the end is a makeup artist now on things like Mad Max, Thor Love and Thunder and Shang-Chi.
Aside from maybe Jack Thompson or Paul Hogan, Bryan Brown is the most Aussie bloke around, loved The Shiralee I re-watch it probably once a year.
Very underrated movie, A cult classic really. Now the dead brother part is the supernatural aspect in the movie, he's breaking out of hell to help save his little brother from repeating his own mistakes that lead him to being killed by Pando in the bush. He watches as Pando's offsider first loads his gun with the rusty bullets and the mystery is whether he curses the gun to always misfire or is it just the dirty bullets. He also touches Jimmy in the train causing him to freak out and maybe finally take a different path in life.
Speaking of Kieren Darcy Smith, he was in the Square (with Joel Edgerton, directed by Nash Edgerton) and he also directed a great film called Wish you were here. I think you'd like both films
The Powderfinger song,These days that plays at the end was actually written for the film
I haven't seen this since it came out. I think I ended up living on the street that kid was run over on. Australia can be such a small place for such a large land mass.
This is such a good movie!!! Thanks for reviewing it.
Powderfinger's 'These Days' always makes me cry because of this movie, though 'Two' is just as impactful. They're my favourites, and absolutely worth watching.
Have a look at "kenny" f'n hilarous.
Another movie with Heath that nobody has reacted to is Ned Kelly. Brilliant flick
Tom Long played Wally , the guy in flip flops, died recently from a form cancer not long ago actually.
sad loss. Was a great sounndtrack also.
CityRail!! I think that train carriage is probably still in service. It might even still look like that.
Given you're doing Aussie films please please please watch Gallipoli (the 80s film staring a very young Mel Gibson). It's a film that for many Australian's defines our identity and it's exceptionally well made.
Candy - is another good movie
23:50 he is obviously involved in a getaway from a bank robbery. What is he going to do? Pull over and give his details so that he could deposit a cheque given to him?
I'm so glad you're going to be watching Mr Inbetween. its probably the best series ive seen in the last few years.
I'm LOVING it!
Great channel! Hardly anyone reacts to Australian films. You’ll have a dedicated little fanbase down here if you keep ‘em coming 😊
Love your Aussie reviews!
You should also check out Gettin' Square, with a young Sam Worthington, aka Jake Sully from Avatar
You would love Spotswood (1991) Anthony Hopkins, Ben Mendelsohn, Toni Collette and Russell Crowe.
Awesome reaction Chrissie :) Had forgotten this film over the years am going to have to go and watch it again :) few other Heath Ledger films around this time are Ned Kelly and 10 things I hate about you and of course Knights Tale :) pretty much any Brian Brown film is worth watching, Dirty Deeds is rather similar to this and of course the FX movies, oh and it you want an amazing Aussie movie hard to go past Red Dog and Red Dog 2 :) Also with Furiosa a Mad Max story coming out in a few weeks would be a good time to react to all the Mad Max movies :) Now to watch a few more of your reactions me thinks 😜
If you want Aussie movies that no one out of Australia knows about...... try "Malcolm (1986)" one of the best classic aussie films of all time
He's even better in Candy, you'd love it
Yesss! Thankyou 🤙👌
You might like to check out "The Rover" if you're still keen on Australian movies. Stars Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson. Also, the Actor who plays "Acko" from two hands is in it as Archie.
Classic Aussie flick ! ❤ Home grown
This is another Aussie classic. It's good to see Americans taking in some of the Australian films. Thanks for doing these and love your reactions and reviews 😀
Ahem 🇨🇦😉
@@chrissiereacts apologies! Canadian 😄
Much love from Australia
hi chrissie i am enjoying your reactions and started watching because of those two big beautiful eyes they show so much {not an innuendo} your eyes show your reaction more than anything keep up the good work
Thank you! 🤩
love you and your reactions keep going your beautiful from Australia
ROMPER STOMPER is a great Aussie movie to watch. It has a young Russel Crow in it and is all about Australia's multiculturism.
"there's fkn billions of them!"
That's it a strange way to put it. Kind of like how American History X is about American multiculturalism?
Looking for a street fight, looking for a root
@@UberNoodle Pretty much, it sounds funny, but I guess the statement is true, it's fair to say that in all multicultural civilisations there are segments of the original population that are not so keen on the change, most just keep their mouths shut in polite society, some don't.
@@kingcosworth2643 I suppose so. From that that perspective.
Bryan Brown is a living legend. Love him.
Fantastic choice. I love that you are watching Aussie films. Best Aussie film ever in my opinion is " Gallipoli" (1981) Directed by Peter Weir starring Mel Gibson.
Now you're talking, one of the best movies ever made. Even chock full of 80's synth music somehow.
Great cult Aussie film..a lot of Aussie stars!
Subbed. Biased as l am an Aussie but so many of our films and shows are underrated abroad.
We produce so much crap, but there are a few true diamonds in the rough. But I think the others just cause Australian movies to be ignored, some of my favourite films are Aussie.
I have no idea why Tarantino didn’t cast Rose Byrne as Sharon Tait. She’s a splitting image
Heath ledger rest in peace. ⚘️
Powderfinger’s These Days at the end. One of the greatest Aussie songs ever.
The only tv show i ever saw Heath Ledger in was the 1996 tv series Sweat which is filmed in Perth where he was born and it is hard to find outside of YT uploads.
Top! Aussie version of a Guy Ritchie wiseguy stuff up movie!!!
Thumbs up people… help Chrissy get there! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

No one who lived in Sydney ever went on the monorail. True story.
Everything I know about monorails, I learned from the Simpsons 🤓
@@chrissiereacts Good place to learn your monorails
Great Sydney movie.
I miss old Sydney.
The last 20 years has changed it for the worse.
The whole country has changed for the worse. saw it coming in the 90's when the gov went on a banning rampage and taught the Australian population that the way to deal with perceived problems is to 'ban it'. Even down to live music venues and dog parks, banned. Just go to work and pay your taxes like a good citizen, there are cameras everywhere to watch you.
The Castle, well worth a watch
You're so beautiful. And I adore your reactions, not too many words, no fake annoying emotions, just pure movie experience.
The wog boy (2000) was a big box office success, but no ones reacted to it, another one you could consider
"Candy" 👍
At 23:32 - same face and hand movements as the Joker in Batman
Gettin' Square is another aussie underworld type movie that's similar
It has Sam Worthington and David Wenham in it
I am a very recent subscriber so I have not yet seen what other Aussie films you have watched, but if you are looking for something a little off beat then "Bad boy Bubby" is a bit of a cult classic when it comes to Australian film.
I have enjoyed your reaction to this and Chopper. I look forward to more.
I've seen a lot of people mention that one but after watching the trailer, I'm not sure I could handle it 😟 I can't tell if it's traumatic or comedic... or maybe both lol
That wink gets me every time
The postcard bandit & Running on empty are also great aussie movies
