I have the same Acer and I've broken almost every one of these things. They're stupid and break out so easily. I replace them by wiping the tiniest amount of superglue around the inside of the plastic hole using a toothpick. Just don't replace the screw until the glue has dried!
@@kenchua2079 My laptop works perfectly but last time I maintained it was a good 4 years ago for this very reason, and now it is in need of thermal paste and I'm dreading it because it barely holds together as it is, a few more screw sockets gone and its fucked.
@@DKBoy12 what sucks as well is cost of used cases that may be good but will still have stress fatigue from open and closing so many times. And yet I offer to help others fix their 8 year old laptops for pennies, to avoid HDL. And it cost me $$$ in aggravation 😜
JB weld work ok for ya? Epoxies didn’t and part of my. Post is broke and I won’t to fill it and JB WELD came to mind. I think I’m gonna stop working on these older laptops. I. Just do it for hobby, but these old cases can only take so much. Let me know how the JBW held up.
Dang. I have been trying every type of glue and epoxy and was searching for fixing these posts and melting plastic (would it work). I have a soldering iron and like this just rocks. So gonna give this shot later today. I Never gave the thought of heating the brass stud and sitting it in. “Over analyzing “. 👍👍👍👍
DO NOT USE THREADLOCKER! I used the blue medium threadlocker and it destroyed all the plastic posts and that’s the reason I am in this predicament. Maybe there is a plastic safe threadlockr out there, but definitely DO NOT use the loctite blue medium threadlocker on your laptop/ anything plastic.
Silly question, does the plastic melt because the heat is getting transferred from the iron to the screwholder? It looked like the heat transferred extremely fast so I got confused
I assume it transfers the heat, brass is a fairly good conductor of heat plus the plastic must melt pretty low. that's also typically soldering best practice to melt the solder by heating the piece
Thread locker. Look for loctite. Use the blue loctite. Red is too strong, and you'll never get it apart again, without damage. Just a dab on the screw threads will do.
See if you can put it back in place using the tiniest amount of superglue. It's possible that you don't really need it anyway if there are nearby screws that help hold the part in place too.
What if the plastic is broken off co.pletely
THIS is such a genius way to fix this, you saved me alot of nerves trying to fiddle with glue and tape...
THANK YOU!! They told me I had to pay $500 for this! Absolutely insane.

watching this on my laptop after having taped the corners with tape because the plastic would crack further every time i opened it

Use a 2-part epoxy (e.g., JB Weld) if you have time. "Bondic" can be used in a pinch. Be aware that Bondic isn't nearly as strong/durable.

Well, it never occured to me to do this, thanks!
I'mma use this tip along with the one about using copprer stand-offs.
I feel like a rock after watching this and the standofff posts. Both ideas will work on an old Toshiba. (Well should) 🫰
This s a fantastic fix, thanks so much for this suggestion!
Where from we can buy these nets I have two the screws go around and around does tight on them I want change the nets😢
M8, you have no idea how stupid I feel rn, this is brilliant, thanks a lot!
I had opened the laptop, its three screws have gone missing... where will they be found?
does anyone know where i can can find these screw holders to buy
I would recommend some epoxy for reinforcing the brass because somehow it would broke again soon.

I have this problem but I can't open the laptop without removing the screw and it's stuck.

is there any way i do this without drilling a hole? my 7 year gamibg laptop looks brand new and i do not want to ruin the look of it
Where do you purchase "standoffs" this size?
you don't, that's why he uses this method to put the nuts in place
