God I loved this band. It's hard to divorce the music from Ethan's actions, but there's no denying their abusive partnership created some amazing music. III is a masterpiece and this album is just so fun, with its eerie sci-fi edge.
You definitely gotta listen to their next album "(II)". It has the same kind of formula as this album, but darker sounding, way more atmospheric, and overall just easier on the ears at times. I personally think you would like that one more.
This album is underated in the what became mainstream "EDM". When I was 18, i snuck into a club and saw them perform in with health, in toronto. Was pretty epic.
YES PLZ --- King Night and Fires in Heaven ofc but im also gonna need some bootleg/rare listens like River of No Return and something with Usleep, reserection, OUTSYDANITE and the Gucci remixes on it
my goat thank you recs: Cap'n Jazz - Shmap'n Shmazz (The goats of midwest emo... the originators... I don't gotta say anything else. The album is the first 12 tracks of the compilation that's on Spotify btw, but you should also check out the Take On Me cover that's directly after the album in the tracklist, it's awesome) Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (GORGEOUS unique sounding early 90s shoegaze, sounds like mbv, pavement, guided by voices with twee pop mixed in, so awesome, better than Loveless imo) Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (Unique folk-punk, early 80s college/alt rock, very catchy) Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque (Really catchy power pop, slightly shoegazey, same label as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, basically as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Ghosts of the Great Highway - Sun Kil Moon SMILE :D - Porter Robinson (pop-punk, pop, electronic) Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
Love this album, but I do think their second one is an overall better album. You should definitely check it out. Also, definitely recommend Deltron 3030 self titled album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz, and if you're looking for something completely different then I definitely think you should check out Dreams by Gabor Szabo. An absolute treat on the ears
The lyrics for Air War are taken from James Joyce's novel Ulysses, one of the earliest postmodern novels which uses a different writing format for every chapter (much like how this album shuffles through vocalists throughout the first half). The quoted chapter, Sirens, has its language and grammar structured so that it resembles music, or a siren song. The first parts of the chapter are incomprehensible before it slowly changes into something more recognisable and disturbing. Still think you'd love Tracey Denim by Bar Italia.
Who else wants a huge Witch House come back? I know sidewalks and skeletons are still around but no one else is doing stuff quite like this anymore. Sure it's influenced a lot of stuff and I love 100 gecs. If there are others making stuff like this please share!
There’s a guy called “sematary” who makes a weird blend of witch house and black metal. His song “buryd my heart” is a witch house instrumental banger but all his other songs are great aswell.
Jooo Smags I heavily recommend listening to the debut album of the Dare that just came out called: “What’s wrong with New York” The guy also produced “Guess” from Charli XCX so you know a little bit what to expect Only he goes even noisier, bassier and more distorted on his own stuff Overall just an insane listen
Also the debut album of Fat Dog just came out which SLAPS!!! Absolutely bone thrilling music Don’t really know the genre but I’d probably call it goth-synth rock Really impressive stuff for both artists to put out debut albums that are album of the year worthy
Funny you brought up MySpace, I ordered an earlier version of this album from their original Canadian label via their MySpace page in about 2005-6, they then got signed to a bigger label and the og distro lost the ability to sell it, I got an email saying I would still get my copy despite the change in logistics. It never did arrive & my follow-up inquiries went unanswered. I'm also gonna suggest Yo La Tengo again.
Canadians kill it with experimental electronic music. You need to check out Venetian Snares album "rossz csillag alatt született" It is a true masterpiece of our modern age.
Hi Smags! I would love to see you trying something completely out of the box...LAKE OF TEARS - FOREVER AUTUMN (1999) - if you would be in a mood for something harder, but also beautiful I can really recommend this hidden gem!!
Oh this is about to be a crazy reaction 🔥🗣️ Untrust Us and Vanished are top tier for me. I’d recommend some of there other albums for sure. Another recommendation I have is Pixel Bath by Jean Dawson. Not very similar to this, but I think you’d like it.
Congratulations! You have reacted to 151 albums. If this was Pokémon, you would have finished gen 1. I guess it’s fitting this has so much chiptune Before Time - Omni Yabby You - One Love, One Heart Tanya Tagaq - Retribution
listen to BLADEE in this order: Eversince Icedancer 333 Cold visions Gluee then whatever HIS DISCOGRAPHY'S PERFECT if you do bladee I'll sub 2 the patreon

Great album but I don’t think you should listen to any more Crystal Castles. The history behind the band is horrible, and Alice Glass has stated that she doesn’t want people listening to them anymore
I used to pray for times like these 🙏🏼😭
