it’s important to note that peggy made this album at the lowest point in his life, the lot of it being made while being stationed in japan while in the army, it explorers topics such as his sexuality, issues with his gender, loneliness, and (obviously) a crippling porn addiction. it’s also heavily implied that the devon hendryx character offs himself at the end of untitled lll
recs: Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, very nearly as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (Insanely badass aura filled production and vocals, extremely unique) Weezer - Pinkerton (Some of the nicest sounding guitar/drums/everything you'll hear in 90s alt rock, with crazy honest lyrics, ended up inspiring some emo bands) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me (amazing ahead of its time 1987 alt/noise rock) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
album recs: teen dream by beach house- really great combo of their early intimate stuff and later grand sounding stuff 0 by ichiko aoba- so crazy how much can be done with just a guitar and vocals. such a beautiful album congratulations by mgmt- really good psych rock album has one of the best songs ever on it age of adz- album sufjan stevens made after having a breakdown and suffering through really bad health issues. i think he captured the intensity and uncertainty of his situation perfectly in the album. beat by bowery electric- it sounds exactly like the cover gohan ga dekitayo by akiko yano- no one really talks about this one but its one of the most creative and fun pop albums ive ever heard. shoutout to her bc its crazy innovative for 1981
recommendations: Juju or Tinderbox by Siouxsie and the Banshees -There is nowhere enough recognition for Siouxsie and the Banshees. Tinderbox is an amazing album and Siouxsie's vocals pack such a punch in every song. Juju Is really good as well and a lot darker Bloodflower's or Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me by the Cure- The songwriting in bloodflower's is really great and despite some criticism and deals with dark themes much like Disintegration and Pornography. I still think it's one of their better recent albums. Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me is also an absolutely incredible album and is very diverse and captures a lot of their different styles. Ultra by Depeche mode - This album is pretty underrated and one of my more favorite Depeche Mode albums Strangways here we come by the Smiths- Even though two smiths' albums have been reviewed already on this channel this album is also a fun listen and has some really great songs. I find myself coming back to this album more often than their others. Substance by New Order- New order is the band that formed after Ian Curtis's death and since both of those albums were reviewed on this channel it would make since to review at least one of their albums. Ocean Rain by Echo and the Bunnymen- Echo and the Bunnymen are a great band and have a really great musical feel. This album is a good introduction as it has some downbeat songs and some upbeat ones. Note: sorry if my explanations are not the best, I'm trying not to really give too much about the albums and I'm not great at explaining music. But it would be really great to see Siouxsie and the banshees on the channel.
Album recommendations: Waiting to Spill- The backseat lovers When we Were Friends- The backseat lovers Citrona- Flipturn Heavy Colors- Flipturn Something you needed- Flipturn Shadowglow- Flipturn Songs- Adrianne Lenker Unreal Unearth- Hozier Close to Paradise- Patrick Watson Young Americans- David Bowie Everything so far- Pinegrove RMCM- Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners Good For You- Houndmouth The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We- Mitski Attic Sessions- Arcy Drive
Dude you should definitively react to Four Tet, he's like a god of electronic music and most certainly one of my favourite artists. He recently released a new album, Three+, which is quite nice but he has alot of very cool stuff, like Rounds and Ringer and many more albums. Hope you give him a listen, and would love to see what you think of him. Keep it up my guy
Been waiting for this one I think everyone has But there's one album which I'm not sure you have reacted to: but I at least don't remember it. It's called *Give* *Up* by The Postal Service. It's a classic. Should definitely check it out.
Black Ben Carson is an album that mixes this sound with his more experimental and industrial hip hop sound that you hear on veteran. Def worth a listen, one of my favorite albums of his.
Sakura I feel like works as the perfect closer to not just THE GHOST~POP TAPE but Devon Hendryx all together. Idk if you caught it during or after recording but there's a faint vocal sample of him saying "I made this album despite the fact I don't really have a future. I made this album because I love making music. And I hope that when people hear it, they hear someone who's genuinely in love with what he's doing." I don't think there's a single dude who deserves all the love and success he gets like Peggy. Since day one, dude put his everything into his art and I'm so glad his back catalog now gets the love and appreciation it so desperately deserved at the time.
all my hero’s are cornballs is melodic like this i feel like it takes elements of this album and refines them more like the ambient aspects and singing
If you're into ambient pop make sure to check out Susumu Hirasawa's 1994 album "Aurora", it features some of the best ambient pop ever with a strong unique new age/oriental taste. His following 3 albums also features some ambient pop as well as soul-crushingly powerful art pop with electronic influence. Definitely a must-hear for ambient pop lovers!
Smags! I highly recommend you listen and react to "The Lamb as Effigy" by Sprain. It's a mesmerising and massive fusion of Post-rock, Post-hardcore and noise-rock bliss!
u gotta listen to the bonus tracks ASAP. There's a whole movie about this album, too, and if u want the link, i could send it to you, but there's one on internet archives, but it kinda sucks. And by the way, the movie deals with the same concepts like the music. Some people say that the reason Peggy covered HBK is because he talks about him getting SAD and wants to kill his assaulter, liara deals his sexuailty, Bubblegum Crisi is the title of an anime, hes completely naked om the cover, some of the song instrumentals are on other devon hendryx albums. Anyways, I'm glad u enjoyed bro, this is like my favorite album of all time.
@@richiepez HBK, PFP, Sakura (The Remastered Verisom TbH) Bubblegum Crisis, Call Me Maybe, ODB, Missing Image File, God Bless My Homegirls, and lowkey even Piano Baby
its a really interesting album and unique style but I could never get into it personally, generally how the devon hendryx stuff is for me I'm def more into what he'd go on to do as jpeg
Please listen to anything by Jeff Rosenstock. I wanted to go to one of his concerts but they sold out basically immediately. He also got Anthony Fantano's Album of The Year last year and I think you would really like his music.
Holy shit these choices are so good You think you will ever get to anymore Beach Boys albums? Their music got so crazy after pet sounds and ik how much you loved that one Edit: or Ween
I haven’t checked out any of Peggy’s stuff pre JPEGMAFIA so I’m excited to listen….but speaking of ghosts you should listen to Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway! other recs: Third Eye Blind - Self-Titled Parannoul - After the Magic clipping. - Visions of Bodies Being Burned

Call Me Maybe is genuinely my favorite cover of all time. The fact that it can change no lyrics and shift the mood so powerfully is really amazing
he changed the lyrics to stroking so the mood is changed to horny and depressing i guess. great song tho
i think he said i was stroking all night instead of the original lyrics at one point
Hear fast car by Jim o' Rourke, it’s a better cover for me but tgpt is still my fav album oat
let me tell you i am hollering with excitement rn... HOLLERING with excitement
AHHH MY FAVORITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME ‼️‼️
