Beautiful song, beautifully sung and beautifully played.
The correct origin doesn't come from a Japanese composer but originally from a tango song "Por una Cabeza" made in 1935 by Carlos Gardel.
Most of the general public today likely been exposed to the song from the tango scene in "Scent of a women" (1992) with Al pacino.
It's very likely Joe Hisashi was influenced by this to create the Laputa theme in 1986, while the other Japanese composeres followed suit.
Even Carlos "Por Una Cabeza" could have been inspired by previous songs before them but who knows.
highly doubt that he was influenced by that song, as well as other japanese composers. and how do you know that its "originally from a tango song"? its literally a song. there are similarities to other songs. lmao

Bolton Bolt bruh
@@BoltonBolt so long
I’m in DESPAIR
For those who are wondering why it sounds familiar
It's because of the chord progression which is pretty common among japanese composers
For instance sayonara no natsu by joe hisaishi, kiki's dilevery service's main theme, or alan and cerl ost from breath of fire
Search those up and you'll notice
Also this chord progression is used extensively by hisaishi in many ghibli movies
also the starting part sounds VERY VERY similar to castle in the sky
What is the chord progression if you don’t mind me asking?
@@christianbrobst3486 as far as I can remember
I won't give roman numerals tho cuz I ain't good at music theory lol
But basically sayonara no Natsu for example goes like this
Em- D-C-Bm(or G)they can substitute one another -Am-G-Am-B7
@@christianbrobst3486 and on a side note
The chord progression he's playing here is slightly different (although it's in the same key as sayonara no Natsu)and moves less than the one I mentioned
But it always ends on a dominant 7th chord
Also In the middle of the piece he uses the royal road chord progression (or some variation)
Check that one out too ,you can find a variety of videos covering that chord progression
I've been noticing it for years and even unconsciously wrote some tunes using it and I didn't realize it was a common japanese chord progression that actually had a name
@@christianbrobst3486 it starts at 1:34
It's a variation on it

After skimming the comments, it looks like this can be familiar to you from 3 main places:
1986 "Carrying You" (from _Laputa, Castle in the Sky_ ), composed by *Joe Hisaishi*
2007 "Main Theme" (from _Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei_ ), composed by *Tomoki Hasegawa III* (ETA: the song that PianoDeuss was actually arranging)
2019 "Kamado Tanjirou no Uta" (from _Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba_ ), lyrics and score by *Masaru Shiina*
What I find interesting is that Hasegawa and Hisaishi are contemporaries (born 1957 and 1950, respectively). It sounds like the first three measures of the main theme are a riff on Carrying You; they repeat at climactic moments, so it's easy to hear the similarity.
Kamado Tanjirou no Uta sounds even more similar to Carrying You than this song does, and the composer is considerably younger (born 1974). He would have been about 12 when Laputa came out.
Composers quote each other all the time (there's a bit in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind that I'm convinced is purposefully lifted from West Side Story). As for how intentional and how subconscious this quoting is, I can't say! It's worth noting that Laputa has been around for about 35 years now, which is more than enough time to seep into the subconscious.
I want to be your friend.

It really fits with Zetsubou sensei’s character and the entire series overall; overly dramatic, but genuinely sorrowful.

This plays at the end of your journey.
Whether a song of hope or of loss, whether you are sitting proudly on a throne or broken on your knees, this is the end. You have gained. You have lost. Your have won and you have failed. Everything has added up to this moment. Will your tears be of pain or of pride? Will the land before you be fruitful or barren, colourful or dull?
You'd made some choices. Good, bad, grey. Your friends have come and gone, some jumping to your side and others a bit more hesitant. Some have come through, and many have left. You may be left with no one at all. Not even yourself. You have shed your old soul and created one anew. Is it good? Or does it shine no longer? Your travels, whether on land or sea or sky or mind, have shaped it like a fine pot. You now can look at it from all angles, criticizing every crack and praising every smooth spot.
Whether you have found peace or whether you have only found more turmoil within, this is it.
This plays at the end of your journey.
Now, looking back, ask yourself.
Was your journey worth it?
