It's crazy - most high school volleyball in North America is no where near this level. Japanese players focus on honing technique, game theory, and speed because they usually lack in size compared to other countries. The only thing is that countries with bigger players just pick out the absolute best of the giants and it makes a difference at national competitions. Japan is really lacking in terms of their middles.
