Your video is just amazing. This is a family pottery. It is heartmelting to see your wife and kid working in your project! You're making not just pottery or RUclips videos but share your passion and people with the same passion are challenged to give it a try to start their own business all over the world (I'm from Poland)
Gorgeous - thanks for the inspiration... love your instructional videos and bookJon and your wife's lovely carvings are so beautiful. Thank you. (heart imoji)
Really nice to your wife's artistic skills and to be a part of the video. You both are wonderful individuals (from what we can tell on your videos...lol...wink, wink) and you have a beautiful family. May life continue to surround each of you with its many blessings. Thanks for sharing.
I watched all of your vedio in few days . your love and passion for pottery is amazing. You are a inspiring person God bless you your family 💕💕 Thank you for making these vedios
I make these. Cleaning at sooner is better as it is easier. Clean a bit more at cheese hard stage. This is a matter of practice. Too much pressure will collapse the item. I guess you could use a Dremel too but I haven’t. Try even making luminaries with less holes or smaller ones. They are very beautiful.
Wow! Beautiful! I’m sharing with my ceramics classes during the pandemic and they are doing on line school. Thank you so much! I enjoyed your family ‼️‼️‼️
From watching your vids you are now working with procelain so this project is perfect for porcelain! Hope you can do them again and with the transparency of the porcelain you could just cut the top of them and so the glow through them is also classy through the solid bottom. Beautiful. My daughter has two globe cut out large 12 in cut outs someone did. I love them
Hi Jon. I'm wondering what the process was between carving and bisquing, to clean up the little bits of clay left from the cutting. These are beautiful
Lovely team effort. Can you tell me what kind of knife that is that your wife carves with please? I can't seem to see them in the UK, maybe I don't know what I'm looking for. Can't see the wood for the trees and all that.
I am currently in the advanced going on AP ceramics class at my high school...I have just one question...I am carving a tealight and was wondering how I could smooth the edges once I'm finished carving to get rid of all that "extra" clay, in other words the flakes of clay from carving. I am using raku clay and it is going to be put through the raku process.
I have a question. I carved my mini "lumineer" and have little bits of clay on both the inside and outside at the edge of each carve. It looks like your wife did too. Did she remove all of that or let it get dry and rub it off? Or leave it?
What a great work you do! And you are both very skillful. My experience in pottery is negligible. I'm wondering how it would be, if the inner side of the holes were smaller, and the outer wider. It's just a thought, i'm not so sure of the result. Well, great job guys, and what a great channel. Greetings from Greece.
Ok,,,, , the carving is great, but what I was hoping to find were some tips on cleaning up the piece post carving. It can sometimes feel like a herculean task just getting brushes, sponges, scrapers, etc. into all of the carved areas. Do you have any suggestions on efficient final smoothing of a carved piece?
Usually when it is bone dry I will run some sandpaper around the inside, but my wife is a pretty neat carver, and if you carve at the right consistency of leather hard it can make the clean up minimal. I have also used sponges or sandpaper when it is bisques as well, or a combo of all. Each piece is slightly different so I don't have one straight forward answer.
I need a kiln for jewlry, i seen one tiny one ceramic peice that uses a tea light.how can i make one of those larger and suggestions on wat clay to use thanks sam
Hmm not sure I totally understand the questions/question. BUT I use stoneware clay it works great for me. I have also used porcelain and low fire clay, and I like stoneware the best !
I don't know too much about clay so this may be a silly question, but can you reuse all those pieces that she cut away? Or is the clay unusable once it dries out? I think you could also make some very cool sort of inverted designs, where you throw two similarly sized pots, cut one out like this, and then use the cut pieces on the other pot kind of like a mosaic. You would have a (sort of!) matching set!
Jon, where did you attend college? I'm assuming here in the Twin Cities? I went to the College of Visual arts in the late 80's early 90s. We didn't have a ceramics instructor so I never got to learn. I didn't discover my LOVE of clay until 3 years ago at 47. THANK YOU for these videos for those of us learning on our own. AND, I hope you're managing through the virus impact on your coffee shops! When its over, I'll make the drive out to Waconia from Cottage Grove
Okay, i'm new here idk how i got here but i have always wanted to do this stuff. Does anyone know a good "beginner" channel i can watch. All this stuff is AMAZINGLY INCREDIBLE but i know if i got on a wheel i would not be able to do anything or even know what he talks about lol!
i can only imagine how tedious it must have been for her to carve out 25 of these things for the wedding. each one must take better than an hour to get right.
Great family collaboration. Technical note - you must find a higher desk for a woman. She will suffer from back and neck pain if she continues to work this way
Hi Jon. I love your videos. I’m hooked and motivated. My question is, how does your wife clean up all the cut edges so they’re smooth not sharp? Thanks so much.
I was wondering the same thing, the lifted edges still look somewhat present in the glaze video (which has kinda a cool effect with the glaze breaking over them.) Did ya'll do any clean up on them/how? :) Thanks for these great videos. They are very inspiring!
Just right! However the right consistency was left untold. My guess may relate to cheese like: not a brie or gorgonzola, may be more like a swiss that is a little creamy, but with body....??
You are not only a good potter, but you are also a good photographer and videographer.
FisherCat That's so nice of you, thanks!
You have such a beautiful family. I love that you and your wife art together. Couple Goals!
Thanks, I love when we do collaborations together!
Oh, I love the camera inside the luminary, looking up, as your wife carves one. They are indeed lovely😊.
Wow, she's super talented, too! All of her work is seriously gorgeous! Also, it's fun to see you two work together. 😄
Talk about patience, wow! Totally worth it based on the outcome, they're gorgeous.

oh my! thank you for sharing this idea and story. love love.
Gorgeous - thanks for the inspiration... love your instructional videos and bookJon and your wife's lovely carvings are so beautiful. Thank you. (heart imoji)
Great team work. Beautiful, love them. I have to try this. Thank you for sharing.
Do more projects with your wife it's cool that you're both potters!!
Really nice to your wife's artistic skills and to be a part of the video. You both are wonderful individuals (from what we can tell on your videos...lol...wink, wink) and you have a beautiful family. May life continue to surround each of you with its many blessings. Thanks for sharing.
A family full of talented potters
What a smashing coupel
I watched all of your vedio in few days .
your love and passion for pottery is amazing.
You are a inspiring person
God bless you your family 💕💕
Thank you for making these vedios
Question - Did you wait until the pots were completely dry before you cleaned up the the edges of the cuts and what did you use?
I make these. Cleaning at sooner is better as it is easier. Clean a bit more at cheese hard stage. This is a matter of practice. Too much pressure will collapse the item. I guess you could use a Dremel too but I haven’t. Try even making luminaries with less holes or smaller ones. They are very beautiful.
OMG they are all some just wonderful I love them you are truly blessed by GOD truly.
beautiful, brainstorming wedding gift ideas so this is great :) also cute dog.
How pretty and thoughtful! Y'all make a great team!
Wow! Beautiful! I’m sharing with my ceramics classes during the pandemic and they are doing on line school. Thank you so much! I enjoyed your family ‼️‼️‼️
Lovely video... Great family job. Congratulations to both of you.
All your videos make me miss doing pottery so much!
Holla from down under ! Love your work and can't get enough of it! This has inspired me to do some carving work now.
Love the Luminari-Cam!
Beautiful carving done by Jon ' s wife, thankyou :)
Thankyou:)🎉🎉
Those are beautiful, and what a cool little family!
Thanks!
How do you clean the edges of the cut outs??
Just a sponge when wet and sandpaper when dry!
From watching your vids you are now working with procelain so this project is perfect for porcelain! Thomas Argabright Thanks man! glad you liked it!
I’m totally going to try this! Thanks!
Do you have more videos with both of you working together? You make a good team. I absolutely love these!
I didn't think I needed to see another potter's videos.... YOU HAVE CHANGED MY MIND! :)))
Hi Jon. I'm wondering what the process was between carving and bisquing, to clean up the little bits of clay left from the cutting. These are beautiful
Awesome 👍
What specific pottery knife do you use to carve these beautiful luminaries? I think I'll give it a try! Thanks so much
Molto eleganti!!!
Lovely team effort. Can you tell me what kind of knife that is that your wife carves with please? I can't seem to see them in the UK, maybe I don't know what I'm looking for. Can't see the wood for the trees and all that.
How lucky to have such a handsome, cheerful and talented husband. And now son like father
Made my first one and the delicate clay remaining cracked during the carving process. Any tips? Thx
Soooo amazing 🥰 loVe iT 🕯💫
Love the split screen!
Just curious, how long does it take to carve ONE luminary?
So great! Can you do a video on lamp making?
Great artwork, Also filming and editing.
Those are beautiful
Beautiful! How long do you have to wait before carving? 🌹

Also I love your work and you inspire me to do so much more and to help expand my skills in ceramics👍
Its amazing😍😍
What do you use for the actual light itself? Is it just a battery tea light placed on the bottom?
Super duper. Porcelain is unique.🖒
Hello, please how you dont have glaze on the bottom when you submerge the piece? There is any product you put on the bottom? Thank you
hello, do you think it is possible to do this with air dry clay?
I grew 160 Gourds and I make light diffusers sorta like yours. They also double as oen holders :) cool video man.
Que amor 💖
Adorei 😍😍😍😍
I'm going to try this and hopefully carve out my name in it!
Nice ! That would be some sweet shadows.....or would it be backwards then.....hmmmmm
What kind of pedestal did you use or you recommend to carve on?
I wonder how many hours did you wait before you carved out without having the clay distort the shapes?
Probably 5 -7 hours after throwing, depending on the humidity in the air !
I have a question. I carved my mini "lumineer" and have little bits of clay on both the inside and outside at the edge of each carve. It looks like your wife did too. Did she remove all of that or let it get dry and rub it off? Or leave it?
I found someone asked a couple weeks ago! Thanks for the tips!
Wow that's very beautiful and artistic. Can we use air dry clay for this work?

Hi Jon, what kind of clay you use for this project?
This gives me ideas on making one of those scent things that heat up smelly that wax stuff. I have an elephant and an igloo one.
SO SAD ! THAT PEOPLE ARE SO CRITICAL, OF A TRUE ARTEST BUT THAN ,ALL OUR FAMIOUS ARTEST WERE . THESE PEOPLE MUST BE A LITTLE JEALIOUS!!
I need a kiln for jewlry, i seen one tiny one ceramic peice that uses a tea light.how can i make one of those larger and suggestions on wat clay to use thanks sam

These are beautiful can you let me know what clay and quantity you used to make this size of votive? Love your videos

Hello .. What is the glaze ? 😫 please i need to know 🥺
Does she use a specific pattern for the carving?
Nope! She just does it free hand!
Amazinggggg
Jon if you see this question - wondering if those would all be priced the same? I realize they are about the same size so I would assume yes?
I have sold them all for the same price yes!!
After carving, did you have to clean them up at all?
Little Sand paper when they are bone dry does the trick:)
@@Jonthepotter thank you!!!
Hi John, how much clay did you use to make the vases?
DeLane Mack Ranged from 3 to 4 lbs for each vase. Thanks for watching!
Your wife's simple and bold line work makes me think of Keith Haring.
Beautyfull 👍👍
Super
Gave me an idea for some luminaries of my own.... hehehehehe
Jellyfish luminaries
❤❤❤❤

These would make sweet orchid pots
i can only imagine how tedious it must have been for her to carve out 25 of these things for the wedding. each one must take better than an hour to get right.
a family that clays together.....
Wonderfull. N
Does your wife sell her art?
Great family collaboration.
Technical note - you must find a higher desk for a woman. She will suffer from back and neck pain if she continues to work this way

Can you carve an elephant? And how much would you charge for one on a coffee mug?
Just right!
However the right consistency was left untold.
My guess may relate to cheese like: not a brie or gorgonzola, may be more like a swiss that is a little creamy, but with body....??
Freddie Moretti Haha those cheese references are perfect!
I want to eat all this clay
why do you think that loud and annoying music is necessary?
Omg he has a dog and a baby
Hahaha 😅 So you're lucky they let you seven. 🙈
