I m no1. TERN fan in Malaysia.(may be) .I have watch +- 5/6 of your episod.Good.currently I own a X18(406) a P18 (24") a X20 (406) 1st gen and 2 unit of X22 (26") .I like the X22 most simply because its light, top sec and fastest of all foldings.as fast as road bic but a folding road bike with Mtb tyre. All the models already discont -+2020.and X22 is not selling in Msia nowdays.
@@sternleiche I've ridden both. And settled for the P10. I couldn't justify paying nearly twice as much for the X11. It is a bit faster. And has slightly better overall components. The weight difference between the two bikes is the X11 is 3.3lbs lighter. This is a factor. But I upgraded the crankset on my P10 to a 58 tooth litepro. And it now goes as fast as the X11. If not a bit faster.
Of course you can. I bought a litepro 58 tooth crankset for mine..And had my local bike shop fit it. You will of course need a bigger chain too. But it's perfection. And has the bike hitting 28 to 30 mph in the right conditions. And cruising at 21 to 23mph feels easy.
Great review. Just one thing, can you please explain the SECOND thing you did not like about the bike, as I didn't quite understand the problem you raised!? Unless anyone else reading this knows what he meant please add a comment. Thank you.
It’s just the bottom bracket system that rather outdated. This bike use square taper bottom bracket which is much heavy and not as stiff as hollow tech2, a common bottom bracket standard in 2022/2023 standard. Compare to square taper, hollow tech 2 are much more lighter and stiff and it’s not something premium to start with. Probably just cost a lil bit for manufacturer to do that as stock bike.
Heyyy nothing wrong with that. It’s just my personal view where at this price point if tern able to provide hollow tech 2 as stock will be great. It’s a mid-high end pricing in Malaysia
Wrong square taper can last for years. I've had my P10 since 2017 nearly 7 years. The square taper has needed zero maintainance. The only advantage a hollowtech will have is being a bit lighter. If you're a weight weenie. But they're more prone to problems with outter bearings..
Hi Choo Chian. I’ve been watching your content and have found them very informative. Keep up the good work. Currently I ride a MTB and own 1 for 17 years. I prefer to keep my equipment stock and don’t upgrade over time. Currently, I’m looking to ride a foldie. Should I get a pre-owned Verge P10/X10 or a customised FnHon Blast to match the specs of the Verge series? My budget is around 4.5k and my requirements will be durability, reliability and performance. Thanks.
Own a custom fnhon blast and a verge p10 ... my suggestion is preowned verge d9 discbrake, upgrade the drivetrain with 11 speed 105 ... if you cand find a good deal also with p10 fork ... it will cost above new verge d9 but under new verge p10
Gong Xi Fa Chai. Interesting review.i have a unit of this and indeed it's a good performance foldie, I like it. You mentioned the low end square taper crankset/bb, may i know what is your suggestions/recommendation on the enhancement?
nice frame design, except that i cannot also understand (thus, i also don't like) why they should put too much breaking power on small-wheeled bikes when v-brakes can do the job just as perfectly
I guess it’s for the wet weather braking performance compare to v brake. Rim brake work totally fine until it’s wet. If I’m aiming commuter market I probably will do the same with disc brake. There’s a cheaper version that come with v brake at my country
@@HengChooChian prescisely my point, it's more on business than efficiency .. b.t.w. i have riden my rb and foldie on wet conditions and never found my rimbrakes less effective in any way .. it just boils down to bike handling and skill ..
@@attybong it’s yes part of it is business. Hmmm maybe try a 5-8% gradient downhill with rim vs disk and you will find the difference. I come from a rim brake era, still owning a rim brake bike and also a newer gen disk brake bike. Quite huge different when come to hilly situation on wet to be honest. That also Malaysia is a tropical country and where I stay are pretty hilly. Sometime it’s hot ans next 5mins it might pouring so it’s something that I will look into if I’m commuting.
@@HengChooChian as i have said it's all about bike handling and skill .. control is the key, not power breaking .. the steeper the descent the lesser you have to press the brake levers .. better yet don't brake, enjoy the speed

Thanks for your review. Very detail and fair enough.
Great review. I stumbled onto your channel and I think you deserve more subscribers. Well done to you. I’ve subscribed
Im so happy ur using English language. Watching from the philippines
And very good English too.
Great channel. I am looking to get one of these marvellous folding bikes. And your video has convinced me the Tern verge P10. Is the one to go with.
Fantastic detailed review from a guy who knows his stuff!
Thanks for watching!
Great video and has made me decide to get one! Many thanks!

That is a nice bike. Thank you for introducing it to me.
Fantastic explanation of the bike features. Will like to know which parts of tern has patented their technology.
Is it possible to get into a 30" wheeled suitcase?
Is there a big performance difference between the P10 and the X11 versions?
I guess if you can produce a good wattage, it will make quite a hike different.
@@HengChooChian Thanks, thinking of getteing one of the two.

Yes it's folding and has rack mounts like a Brompton, BUT UNLIKE a Brompton, this Tern is a BICYCLE... AN ACTUAL, REAL BICYCLE.
Is this bike good enough for trail riding? Thanks

What's wrong with square taper?!? They're bulletproof! And they probably can have decent efficiency ... love the reviews! great insights!

Square taper is terrible and outdated. Usually a steel spindle with aluminium cranks. Prone to failure

Any hollowtech 2 crankset set should be able to lower the weight and increase the stiffness. Popular brand like litepro can be an option.
Unfortunately Verge bikes are still pretty heavy and not made in Taiwan anymore. = (

Why care about grammar? Even Singaporean bicycle vloggers also use Singlish. Even beauty vloggers use Singlish.
