I own one now. I race desert on dirtbikes and wanted an adv bike that can handle offroad chops well, and be ridiculously reliable.
Watching pol on the T7 definitely was a factor in my desire to purchase. with my skill I could probably do 1 to 5 percent of what pol can do but at least I know it's not the bikes fault lol
@@Mansplainer411 Same here. I thought quite a bit about the t7 vs a CRF450RL and KTM690R before making my choice. For the amount of pavement riding required to get to choice offroad, it was a fairly easy decision, plus you certainly know the capability it has with the right skills on it.
Plus it's been a fun project to mod a bit.

Seems like this years Erzberrgrodeo was wetter than last years. The heavy T7 with its high center of gravity has less than desired handling in wet terrain.
Funny you mentioned. The T7 seems to be a great bike, but it could be so much better. I have no idea why manufactures need to be going with taller and taller engines, pushing center gravity higher and higher up. And no one is calling them out on this. Press is sucking up to the manufacturers and bike forums are busy with fanboy influencers.
@@mrtopcat2 I think this is to provide them with more ground clearance, so they can install larger suspensions with longer travel in morder to gain comfort in quick bumpy conditions (where a trail bike is supposed to be).
@@royrodrigator My comment may have been misunderstood. My comment was not about the engine including subframe being mounted higher for clearance reasons. Indeed the ground clearance here is roughly the same within the class.
Instead my comment was about the engine itself being built tall. This engine has a deep sump under the crank taking way valuable ground clearance. Such design used to be rather unusual for Japanese engines, which would feature a dry sump if so needed, but these days, this sort of 'lazy' design seems to be becoming more and more the norm as there seems to be no pushback what so ever.
@@mrtopcat2 It's basically the MT07 engine, so they just took the street bike engine and tuned it for offroad use without physically modifying it
@@starstencahl8985 Exactly. And that is exactly what is so wrong with so many of these modern dual-purpose-bike engines. They are basically tall built street bike engines that are shoved into dual-purpose-bike frames. Even more so with putting the thin spin-on oil filter in harms way. I know, I know, it has a skid plate that 'supposed' to give it protection. Still not cool. It is done out of compromise aiming at saving development costs, rather than trying to develop and engine that is pure and for purpose. And everyone is sucking up to it. 🙄

This is like using a wood baseball bat in an aluminum bat league. When you fail miserably you can always say “it’s because I’m using a wood bat” 🤦♂️ he must feel he needs an excuse not to do well.
I'm only seing milestones, far away from needing to excuse in any race I have seen him. Everything he does in races is incredible, beyond the reach of others, maybe he wouldn't win the enduro top riders with a normal bike but he is creating a myth racing erzberg or romaniacs with this bike!

It's not even marketing. If the Yamaha brand wanted to make more money they would just start producing the first Japanese 300cc two-stroke enduro bike because the whole enduro world is waiting to see the first one and it will be sold like crazy.

I wonder if Pol himself thinks there is actually a chance to reach the finish line or if he starts the race just to see how far he is able to go before he gives up or worse. I think at this stage Yamaha has made their point and the whole thing is becoming more silly each time they repeat it.

i dont think he could win , so insted of being just "one more" of the grid (he would probably be in the top10, but anyway..), he earns good money (he might be one of the better paid riders), making such a good publicity of this motorbike

I admire the skills of Pol Tarres and I truly love the sport, but I have never been a fan of the Erzberg competition. I find it needlessly over done, way too brutal on the bikes and quite frankly pointless, as there is hardly any places in Europe where you can ride even 1/10 like this.
I think it's more the atmosphere around the race than the race itself. The mine, party, etc.
