Welcome to the Mk3.5 Ford Focus ST TDCi Powershift!
We have great experience with Ford's ST range, and we are big fans here at Accelerate. But, I've always questioned whether a diesel engined car can be called a performance vehicle.
With 185bhp & an impressive 400nm of torque, we were very intrigued. The addition of Ford's dual clutch transmission (powershift) makes this example a very rare one.
We were fortunate enough to be thrown the keys, to find out how good or bad the "best selling car of 2012" is.

I didn’t even know these existed until like 10 minutes ago and now I’m obsessed. The stock figures are pretty similar but damn i’d bet if you tune it properly the torque would be crazy. We never get small diesels in America. Very odd that it’s an automatic though… i thought all ST’s were 6 speed only. But again that’s here. Also those headlights! So cool why can we not have that here!?
Yeh, I imagine you guys don't bother much with small engines in general. You are so lucky that V8s are a very common site in the states! (Really wish I was American! 😂)
Even over here, people didn't believe that this was a genuine ST automatic (I didn't at first 😂) they certainly are a rare site, but very much surprised me! Very likable car.

I bought mine for fuel economy then stage 1 with Laird Performance to 241 BHP totally stock set up apart from RS air filter top lid box. The car is the most fun and reliable and handles so well. Down side is the 19 inch wheels that hit every fkn pothole hard.

Great video. I think the Focus ST diesel doesn't get the attenttion it deserves. Sick locking car with great styling, amazing drive characteristics and very economical as well.
Can someone telle me how good are these recaro seats for a very long 10+ hours ride? I am average size and weight if it means anything. Can it be uncomfortable?

Aw mate, a 535d in my head may be the ultimate daily. BMW luxuries with power to rival any petrol equivalent, with way more tuning capabilites...what's not to like!

Thought I’d watch for a tribute to my ST diesel which looks exactly the same except it’s manual. I’m trading it in for a 67 plate petrol focus ST and it’s only got 16,460 miles on the clock in deep impact blue. Had the diesel 5 years never done me wrong and it’s fun to drive done 100,362 miles now but it’s still going strong had the belt battery and everything changed new brembo discs and brakes it will probably go to auction be a nice project as it’s got some great mapping options 👍😁
Not sure if it was intentional when yous mentioned corner lights and focused on the fogs lights but the corner lights on the mk3 with Xenons is in the main headlamp where the full beam light would be on non xenon model 👍
If anyone was considering one of these don't settle on anything other than an ST3 with Sync 3 infotainment system👌

The ST3 spec really surprised me, so I agree, if I were to get one it would have to be an ST3.

Looking to buy one of these this month, as a 37 year old petrol head with a family and a long commute this ticks every box! Stage 1 remap will give me enough fun for the weekends plus wife will be happy with the tax and economy. Great car!

@@bigaljack56 I did indeed! Very happy with it so far, had it since March. One issue where clutch got stuck to floor 2 days from buying it but garage sorted. We then stupidly bought a dog so now on the hunt for an estate lol
@@midnightrider287 I picked my white ST2 on Friday, 2018 with 30k so should do me a while. It was a rushed purchase but I'm happy so far. It's a little slower than my last Volvo v40 but I might just get it mapped. It handles so well though! I wanted an estate but very few in Northern Ireland.
@@bigaljack56 mines an ST-2 as well. I got mine remapped in summer and the torque is now ridiculous ha. Has dropped a few mpg though, despite the claims that will increase too.
@@midnightrider287 I've only done 300 miles in mine as yet but it's saying I'm only getting 42MPG. It's maybe just not used to my driving style but I have been a lot slower than I was in the last car that was giving me 49 and that was a 5 cyl

The speed you can carry through bends is mental.

Bought one from new. Only the st3 had red callipers. The st2 and st1 didn’t. Just got mine up to 250 bhp ! From puma speed
Great review, I own one of these as well. It would of been great if you showed off the 'S' option on the powershift gearbox which separates the car entirely from driving it normally in D.
Thank you. I thought the 'S' mode would automatically be engaged when using the padal shift option? The car has been sold so can no longer test that theory lol.

Hi Guys I have some problem with my ST 2.0 TDCi,
When I start the engine, the oil pressure light comes on. There is no reaction to the gas. On a cold engine, it takes about 15 seconds for the icon to disappear, on a warm engine it takes longer. Two oil sensors and a new pump were replaced. Software update at Ford service center. New oil, filters... When the oil pressure light goes off, the car is ready to drive. I think the last chance lies in the ECU. Can you somehow help?
Try to scan it with forscan its free software from online. See what module are you having an issue and dont just guess. Try to capture the code first before reset
Just sold my 2017 model for an Abarth 595 Competizione...I really liked it but I just wanted something a bit different after owning it for 6 years 😊
Just got rid of my 2016 model after 6 yrs also. Changed it for a new jcw. Needed more POWER..but I loved the ST. The gearbox was amazing for the year.
@@Mike-hc3nn The 6 speed gearbox on the ST is a about the only thing I miss. I'm very happy with my Abarth it's 225bhp so not too bad for a 1.4 😁 I've got a classic Mini Cooper as well it'll soon be time for her to come out to play 😎
It's strange to think the first time we saw the ST badge it was on a Mondeo it's become Ford's warm badge
We do like the Mondeo! Kenny daily drives the ST TDCi and he loves it.
We have featured a few STs now & although I openly admit they are not really "my thing" I do appreciate what they are about.

had a front light blub go .U have to buy the hole light unit at 25o quid and to go it out /Wow ?
I've got a stage pumaspeed stage 3 278 bhp and 580nm, still getting 48 mpg around town, full tank in reality will get you 620 miles.

st diesel any day as the torque makes it a better car than any petrol.,,,BUT I would still have a manual

I thought the same! My take-away from the experience was: its not an all out sports car, but its a great all rounder/daily car you can have with on the weekends & still be economical.

@1:08 That is not impressive because a tractor has more. 😘 Engine torque is meaningless without power, gear ratio, wheel torque etc.
@1:16 An LPG conversion doesn't even require a similar fuel economy for much cheaper running costs in the long run. If you like the "sexy" sound of a sewing machine and want to drive something that feels faster than it actually is, cars with turbo Diesel engines are a good choice. 👍

Facts are readily available on google. We are trying to give real world opinions of how the car actually feels, drives as well as specs etc. Surely that's more important than what the manufactures claim?
