thanks for another excellent tutorial, I have played with icloud on a PC and iphone and noticed that the photostream images from the iphone to the windows PC using icloud control panel are in fact the full resolution - same as in the camera roll. The limit of 1000 appears to be true - but the reduced resolution does not appear to be true - OR has that changed since the release of this tutorial?
David, I really enjoy your videos. Very helpful and great narration. My question is if I can store all of my iTunes music on iTunes match and free up space on my ssd? Or could I place my iTunes library on a portable drive?
I am new to Macbook, love it, and your tutorials are helpful to me. I have photos in iCloud from iPod and iPad. I have moved them to Macbook but if I delete from my (nearly full) iPad will it delete them from all my devices?
hi David, great video on iCloud, all very helpful, however I can't seem to get Siri to create the task in the Reminder app as you're showing in the video. I can create a task using Siri on the phone but it goes under Tasks and not iCloud so it doesn't synch with my Mac. And I can't find any options to create tasks manually within the Reminder app, I'm sure I'm missing something....thanks
Hi guys! Is it possible to mark my mail as read on my macbook when I actually read it on my iPhone? In other words, can I link my both mail apps, using iCloud or something? Getting tired of having to read all my emails twice.. Thanks!
Hi David, could you please provide an update to this iCloud Explained video when you have a chance?.... Photos and the latest OS X features have come along with more capability since this published video. Cheers many thanks. Seep up the fantastic work.
I have signed up to your web site, has been a great help, thank you so much! Regarding find my iPhone app, don't you have to enter a password to wipe data?
Hey David, is it possible to have two iCloud accounts on two different users? Just recently bought a MacBook and I'll be sharing with my wife. Is it possible for us to have two different photo streams? Synced docs etc.
I have a question, sorry if this isn't related to the topic. I have iTunes for the computer, if I purchase something on my iPod will it say that it got purchased in iTunes?
I disagree on the compression of photos using Photostream. I made some tests using Aperture, Image Capture utility, iMac and iPhone 5s. I compared five different import versions of the same pictures: 1. Streamed from iCloud, in iCloud folder in Aperture. 2. Streamed from iCloud, in "January 2014" folder in Aperture. 3. Imported to hard drive using USB and Image Capture utility. 4. Imported to Aperture using USB. 5. Emailed from iPhone in "actual size". Results varies with a few bytes depending on method. Pixel ratios does not change using any method. The ones imported into Aperture directly from the phone using USB are the exact same size as the ones streamed via iCloud.
when i upload something to the cloud only people logged in can see it right? like its pretty much private unless someone hacks my icloud? (im being paranoid)
new user to iphone. I did everything to however when I open icloud I do not see my phone contacts. In iCloud I see iCloud drive, photos, mail, contacts, calendars and bookmarks. what am I doing wrong?
I want to mention that you seem pretty bias against iCloud. You had serious complains about Photo Stream, Calendar, Keychain, and Find My iPhone. And I also want to point out you are not entirely correct on all points. I want to point out that newer devices with iOS 7 will remain locked via Find My iPhone even if the device is wiped. From Apple.com: "Losing your iPhone feels lousy. Thankfully, iCloud can help you get it back. But if it looks like that’s not going to happen, new Find My iPhone features in iOS 7 make it harder for anyone who’s not you to use or sell your device. Now turning off Find My iPhone or erasing your device requires your Apple ID and password. Find My iPhone can also continue to display a custom message, even after your device is erased. And your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can reactivate it." I also disagree with using Chrome if you have multiple Macs/iPhones. Safari is based on the same rendering engine (WebKit) and is thus equally as compatible and the speed difference is only applicable with reference to the Javascript engine, and this difference will not be noticeable to the user and that is if you are even correct. According to Apple's 2013 WWDC Keynote, on SunSpider, Safari is 1.12 times faster then Chrome, and in real world Java like Google's own homepage, Safari is 6.4 times faster then Chrome in JavaScript. Also, Safari, the program itself, is much faster with regard to start up times and such on OS X compared to Chrome. It uses far more native code then Chrome does, often code that is already running like Bonjour, Keychain, all of the UI elements, etc and as a result has a much smaller impact on RAM usage (Apple's 2013 WWDC states Chrome uses about 1.6 times the amount of RAM) for those with older macs or portables with lower amounts of RAM, and it starts faster as well. It also uses significantly less power then Chrome, again mostly because it uses more native code, but also because it uses more of OS 10.9's power saving features (Apple's 2013 WWDC states Chrome uses 1.3 times the energy of Safari). I'd only recommend Chrome if, and that is *IF* someone already has been using it on several other machines or for a few years and uses all of Googles other services. Also remember, to get Chrome to sync bookmarks onto your iPhone, you must also use the iPhone Chrome browser, which as of iOS 7, is decidedly slower and less friendly to use. Do you have a ITunes Match with ITunes 12? Also with iCloud storage, does this have anything to do with music and non iTunes music you upload to match?
I just upgraded to 200GB. Now after watching the video I do not know why anyone would do that. I wanted to use it as storage space. I found out you can only upload files not folders. I feel like the service is nearly worthless after watching the video.

What if I had iCloud on one computer with a lot of files in the cloud, and then buy a new computer and want to sync it to iCloud but I do NOT want to sync the old documents to my computer?
Listening to this, it seems Apple has really missed the boat on Cloud Storage. Wouldn't it just be better if it were a Time Machine in the Sky with benefits? Notes only coordinated by iMessages? Isn't that just like a TextEdit file? iPhotos, 30 days only? When I visit my folks at Christmastime I would love to show them pictures of the kids at Halloween. Looks like I'm storing everything on disk. And why the hell do you have to access it through System Preferences? Shouldn't it be an app?
David, I had an old AppleID and changed it to a new one, but I keep getting a pop up window showing the OLD ID and asking to verify password especially when I try to open iCloud in preferences. Can't access iCloud. WHAT CAN I DO? PLEASE HELP!!!
On the Apple support website they state clearly that, concerning resolution of My Photo Stream photos "On a Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. " support.apple.com/kb/ht4486
LOL! How about the 5,000 Gmail accounts that were hacked?!? Apple got bad press because of idiot users that aren't too tech savvy and fall for stupid web and email phishing attacks. Google and Apple both have said their servers were not compromised. Apple gets great press and also bad when things go wrong. It isn't Apple or Google's fault. It is dumb users...
see icloud this way all your stuff pic vid and whatever else you save is all on a server just like a website, you can access anywhere the only difference is you need a password for this website
This is a horrible video. First, you're not required to use the iCloud email address to take advantage of contact, note, calendar, and reminder syncing. If you use another email, you can continue to do so, and simple create the iCloud email (required for syncing), but not necessarily use it. Secondly, it IS useful for locating your phone if it's stolen, because even if the thief steals the phone and wipes it, you're still signed into the iCloud service, and the thief cannot sign out without knowing your Apple ID and password (not "iCloud account"). Even if the device is wiped, the device can be located. The only way a thief can not be located is if the unit is turned off, which can, but not always is done by the thief (depending on how stupid they are).
I've started studying what icloud is today and your video is one of the best that helps me. Thank you for doing this.
Thanks for the excellent, frank, and unbiased tutorial. You saved me from some serious mistakes I was about to make.
Thanks David. A great insight into I Cloud. Understood quite a few things and got rid of some silly mis-conceptions !!

I am new to Macbook, love it, and your tutorials are helpful to me. I have photos in iCloud from iPod and iPad. I have moved them to Macbook but if I delete from my (nearly full) iPad will it delete them from all my devices?
Sheila, if you have imported those photos into iPhoto or Aperture on your Mac, then you should be good to delete them from your phone or ipad
Mark Holmes Thank you Mark, I have transferred all to iPhoto so can now delete photos from Pad and Pod.Now have lots of space on iPad!

Unfortunately you never explain what iCloud IS. All your info is explained in a vacuum.
Great, Safari keychain synchronizes all of my passwords. Ah, how does it do that???
I use Apple contact
who gets to see the icloud photos
What is iCloud??? A big giant server storage device???
On the Apple support website they state clearly that, concerning resolution of My Photo Stream photos "On a Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. "
