  • Trifolds and Gimmick album covers are like Gatefold covers on steroids. Here are some album covers in my collection that are fun to pull out from time to time.

    Hi John
    Apologies, don't know how I managed to miss this video.I've never seen that Joe Cocker album, what a fabulous fold out sleeve. The Ringo packaging is nice with the booklet, I have a copy of that.Lovely best of John Mayall.I was recently given a non gatefold copy of Aladdin Sane that had obviously been used as a poster because there was traces of blue tack on the back.The trifold on Grave New Worlds is reminiscent of the Hermit in Zep 4.Thick As A Brick is such a genius concept. I tried reading the paper once, theres some quite amusing articles.Great Map cover with MAN,not familiar with their musicianship have a crappy copy of Schools Out, .I've never picked up that Jefferson Airplane album because I hear it's not that great..never seen that MAN album,Ha ha, nice to know where exactly you live now!.i think My cousin lives near Steve, Psych in the Valleys.I have a few Melanie albums but have never seen that album you showed.I think theres a Python album that does something similar.Really enjoyed this video and seeing some of your collection. Sorry to hear about your lockdown situation, hope you don't go stir crazy.

    Hey, I'm a newbie, here. I gotta say, those types of gimmicky records are quite neat. The last one with Malenie is genius. I have the same Jethro Tull album as you. I got it Thursday at Disc Replay, a store of used media. I had to get it cause the whole album has a newspaper. And the second album is Bread. Great video.

      Hi Jimmy, I'm glad you enjoyed my video. There were a few of us that made similar videos at that time as part of a thread. This was in response to Static Traveler's video. Be sure to check that one out (ruclips.net/video/WCdObpzVDso/видео.html).

    GREAT! Now I have to add that Melanie album to my want list. Reminds me of the Monty Python Instant Record Collection which also folds out into a cube to look like a stack of LPs.

      I've seen others on YT show that Melonie comp, but they are often unaware that the cover folds out into a cube. Cheers

    The art work specifically during 60/70s demanded expansive ideas with the sleeves. As often did the music to match. I don't think I've ever heard Man but I really like maps anyway so that was my favourite.

      Thanks Martin. There should be more maps in records!

    I was looking for Mannfred Mann's Earth Band The Good Earth lp Early owners of each copy of The Good Earth were entitled to rights over 1 square foot of the earth situated at Llanerchyrfa in the County of Brecon, in Wales. The inner sleeve included a coupon that had to be sent for registration. This was part of the promotion activities linked to the album that had ecological inspirations. There was no swindle and thousands of fans were registered. Registration could be done on or before 31 December 1975.[3]

    Who knew there were so many VC members in Wales...don't think I know the RUclips channel but there is a middleagedmusicfan who I follow on Instagram...cool to see where everybody is from in relation to each other and a really neat design idea, never seen that one but Man are probably unusual to come across here. Cheers John!

      I don't know how well known Man were outside of the UK. If they were known for anything out side of Wales it was probably this gimmick record cover. :-)

    That Man album is a cool trick cover. The Alice Cooper ones were always neat. I never can put that Melanie one back together right on first attempt.

      I'm still working on putting the Melanie album back. It should come with instruction. LOL

    What no Tommy! Great video john. I still have the paper pants that came with School's Out on the record. I also have a Monty Python album that's goes into a cube as well. Monty It's Monty Python's Instant Record Collection, which has the spines of albums that have very funny titles like Norma Shearer whistles Duane Eddy.Take care

      Hi Tony, Glad you enjoyed this. So you still have the paper pants. Nice. It's a strange thing to put in a record cover isn't it. Have a good weekend. Cheers

    Nice selection John. Amazing to report but I've never heard a Joe Cocker album. I don't think my copy of Ringo contains the booklet - if it does, I've somehow failed to notice it. I saw a Man album last weekend at Heightside, would you recommend that I go back and pick it up? Some extraordinary 'folds here John, loved the Wales travelogue. You were a little south when trying to show where I come from. Cheers.

      Mad Dogs & Englishmen is a great place to start with Joe Cocker. Your man Leon Russell had a big hand in making it happen. It's actually a very good live record. Man are a sort of Welsh version of Barkley James Harvest so I don't know if they are your sort of thing. Was I right about the Wrexham connection at least?

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic 4 года назад

      @@johnbellamy3406 Yes. I was born in Wrexham but grew up about 10 miles north from there, near the border. A Welsh Barclay James Harvest...you're not selling it to me.

    Fantastic choices John. That Man album has one of the coolest openings ever. Hard to find in the States. It was cool how you knew the roads where fellow VC members live on the map. Visiting England is on my bucket list. Thick as a Brick. Super choice. I think I saw that tour. No I did not. My first Tull show was Minstrel in the Gallery. Excellent presentation John~

    A few nice ones there John- some of those I could have shown too. I always ignore that Ringo LP, so did not know of the eye-catching booklet. I had not seen the John Mayall cover opened before either. They were a treat. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Alan. To be honest, some of these covers seldom see the light of day so it is fun to pull them out all together and look through them. I avoided the more common ones like Tommy and Yessongs... I wonder if anyone else will make a trifold vid. Cheers

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who fails at pronouncing towns.

    • @johnbellamy3406
      @johnbellamy3406  4 года назад

      Towns in Wales are names in such a way that nobody except the Welsh can pronounce them. I'm sure of it.
