Thanks to the land owner for giving us permission to raid the cool cave (on private land)! We had so much fun, saw quite a few creatures, and had to escape thick smoke from a nearby fire. This all happened here in one day... many places in Oregon and California are still burning. Our area was spared the worst of the fires, but has been filled with unhealthy, smokey air for weeks and now months. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, comment or sub. ; )
Say hi on instagram instagram.com/kalivornia_photography/ Or over on Tik Tok @calivornia
Subbed today from a y r old vid u guys r amazing thank u.
Im n south eastern Oregon and it was a rough year with all the fires super smokey glad yall are safe and well.
Must u go caving in lava tubes ? ☕🍯🍶
3:32 between beautiful and mind-blowing(first time watching) have differences I think .
one think I can say unpredictable stunts
I thought you could get hyperthermia
This channel is so underrated. Honestly it's only a matter of time before the algorithm chooses you and you absolutely explode ha. I discovered the channel a week ago and I've been hooked on it
Thanks! The last few days, the algo has bumped up a bit. To the tune of almost 1,000 subs a day. So we'll see what happens. But we're having a good time, we'd do this for just ourselves.
@@CalvinHikes RUclips also recommended me your channel a week ago. Im sure youre getting boosted as you deserve it! Greetings from Austria. May look up "Dachstein ice cave" and see if theres something similar where you live, could be interesting to you. Keep up the good work!
Same
@@CalvinHikes Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to document and share your adventures with us.
I've been housebound since 2002 and this is the only way I'll get to see things like this.
The shared family adventure is also very appealing to me.
Your newest subscriber from Manitoba, Canada
Same =)
That salamander made me finally get the reason why you guys like caving so much. You really get to see things that so very few people get to see. Nature is beautiful!
That's for sure. I could go without seeing cave spiders but some people are into caving just for the biology. We are in it for the adventure!
It's so weird I ussually can't watch caving videos because of claustrophobia but seeing how relaxed and excited Jacob is puts me at ease even though I would never go in there my self for all the gold in the world
It's so much fun. And Jacob loves it more than anything in the world. If he gets creeped out we just leave.
*cave is literally hell*
"Oh my there's fire, we gotta get out haha😄😅"
My father didn't teach me a thing, stoked to see this father and son bond. I'll bet Jacob is the talk of the school once these videos are uploaded. Super brave pair. Look after one another, stay safe and keep smiling. Best of the luck on your future endeavors 💯 mad respect from Newcastle 🇬🇧
Yeah once our schools open to backup he found he was popular with a certain crowd. Was pretty funny. Hes hardly recognisable now though... hes grown like a foot in the last 6 months.
Ahhhh my two favourite things claustrophobia and the fear of drowning. Where do I sign up
And it's totally free!
Don’t forget burning alive :)
@@chopperchopperchopperchopp4897 pyrophobia :D
Good job keeping your patience and cool towards the end with Jacob, while avoiding the forest fire. Well done
Thank you! You never know with fires whether it's coming your way or not. But the smoke was thick and we were out in the brush so it was just a matter of hustling and not getting too dramatic about it.
The next option was to hide in the cave.
Jacob you are one lucky kid to have a dad who is so adventurous, relish these years and carry these moments thru out your life and when you have kids of your own share the passions of your dad with them .in doing this you will find the same love that your dad has now .
this video deserves all the clout, unlike tana or any other "vloger"
Never heard of them. THANKS! ; )
Caveman Hikes And you rather not 😂😂
Eh I don't care for the other vloggers but I don't outright hate them because they don't live in my head rent free
"Were gonna leave him alone becuase isn't used to light" *turns on bright light*
I agree with Jacob about the cave water. When I was younger I went to Mexico with my parents and went cave diving and that was the most crystal clear water I have ever seen and it was such an awesome experience
Snake, water, fire, holes, and caves these are most people's fear all in one video. 😲 👏🙈😱
This is one of my new favorite channels. I’ve come in from your Cave Dangers video. You and Jacob make an entertaining duo and the dynamic there - the wise wolf and the eager, adventurous pup - is a refreshing change of pace from other RUclips explorers I’ve seen.
Cheers, you’ve earned my sub!
Thank you. those are all nice things to say. We take great pride in not being like other channels. We're not gonna beg for subs or money or just walk around doing nothing with our time. This rabbit trail is adventure only!
“That’s cleaner than your water fountain I guarantee it!”
*10 seconds later*
“So we just found this creature here in the water...”💀😭😭😭
Well we didn't drink the water below where we found him! Poor little guy peeing in our water. But funny.
"Professional" then there's winging it as you go like this channel. Enjoy your nasty diesiesed water.
@DeltroxTv I filter all my water. Go ahead and drink some water that a diseased dead bat is in bro. Go for it.
@@whatwasit3620 Ever heard of Lake Tahoe? Some of the cleanest water around and it’s got an entire ecosystem in it. Dead things too. It’s proven more pure and clean than bottled water, hence efforts to “Keep Tahoe Blue”
@@recklessrickey9513 don't care about what you think only about facts if I showed up with some water on top of a dead animals body bet you wouldn't touch it.
Great work... It's so inspiring to see you guys follow your curiosity. Jacob is amazingly technical and calm at such a young age!!
We are just having fun in a very lonely part of the world.
Another great vid, I'm loving how your channel has boomed in the recent months, I've said it before but well deserved guys
Thank you so much! We love it to. Thank you for the kind words.
@@CalvinHikes Yeah I'm really glad you guys got in my recommended a month ago :)
Little Jacob has more caving experience than most professionals...you go kid 👏.
I know all about the grunting. Crawling through the worst crawspaces. It helps to grunt.
It's almost impossible not to unless you have a lot of predetermined self control. When the body is twisting or under pressure, air is expelled.
wow only 33 views ???
what a cave and what a video,
i was wondering if you could explore the hell hole that is known for it's tight places and claustrophobia
Hell no ✨👁👄👁✨
We're planning a trip. Probably in december when Jacob has a few days off school. It's a 14 hour drive for us. No biggie, but can't do it while Jacob has fake ZOOM school. There's a couple caves in that area by hell hole.
I would definitely watch that video.
Nika, three weeks later and it's now up to 930 views!
@@CalvinHikes This is an unexpected (but pleasant) surprise. Hell Hole is the one that I’ve heard most about, as it’s local and I’ve heard the Birthing Canal is a nasty squeeze.
It’s too bad there’s so much graffiti inside. Gotta hate it when some punks desecrate the natural beauty of the cave.
Hello from England. A free climber has to much space, while a caver has none. Good videos on a subject I knew nothing about. Thanks
Yes, thats for sure a tough thing about cave climbing... lack of space. We also rely more on gear, rather than actual free climbing. So the ropes are static, rather than dynamic. And the descenders are auto stop, rather than manual stops.
@@CalvinHikes thanks. I've watched many of your videos, over the last week. Good quality. Brave nephew. Take care stay safe
I stumbled across this channel and have been hooked on it since! I personally would never attempt things like this, but it's amazing to see other people doing it! Great content guys!
Welcome to the dark frontier
Kudos to the people who will go in these caves your motto is if it's rock it's fun
Our motto is, bringing light where there is only darkness.
But yes smashing rocks is fun too.
“Ah this PAINFUL! This is COLD! This is ROUGH!!
I LOVE IT!!”
Crazy humans
I am not sure how I ended up on this channel but I’m loving it!!!! I’ve seen so many of your videos already and will continue to do so. Your channel is going to explode VERY SOON and you are about to gain millions of subscribers! Amazing work.
Thank you! And welcome to the dark frontier.
When more than 5 people subscribed we felt like we were blowing up. Jacob wanted to have a big party at 500 subs. This is all very surreal for us. We are just out here havin a good time.
Beautiful cave! The water feature is mesmerizing, as you said. I’m always impressed by the maturity of Mr. Jacob. I admire and teenager who learn by doing, understand safety, and use critical thinking to solve problems. He’s a credit to his parents and uncle!
I do have a question: if the fire had been danger close, could you take shelter in the cave or would the fire suck all the breathable air out? Thank you for your time and I look forward to your next adventure!
Jacob is a monster. ; D
Thanks for the kind words.
There have been fires in that area many years ago where some of the firefighters had to take shelter in another nearby cave for 3 days. That was before good roads were developed they just had no way of escaping.
So as long as the smoke isn't too bad the answer is yes. Hiding in a cave would certainly protect you from the heat and the flames. And it would provide you with water. The problem would be the smoke and some of that would get in the cave. And if the fire was truly raging a could suck the oxygen out of a small cave. That's much less likely. In all likelihood, you could ride out a fire in a cave... because most fires would pass over in just a number of hours.
I've fell down a hole (pun intended) of watching a guy enter the HELLHOLE, then the John Jones case, and finally you guys. I'm happy I found you, because you've actually inspired me to one day try this. I love your channel, and I'm hoping one day I can spelunk like you guys.
Wow, thanks! We love doing it. thanks for watching glad you like it.
@@CalvinHikes don't you ever worry that you or your kids might go too far and become john jones 2.0?
Absolute gold. What an amazing experience to share with your son
The freshest water. These videos are amazing I love to see caves and would love to explore one this way just once. Thanks for the videos keep up the hard works guys and be safe
Thank you! Yes that's just about as clear and clean as water gets. Except for the little salamander dude living in the cave entrance!
I love how you're always so respectful of nature! The little salamander greatly appreciates that!
Jacob is the smartest kid, wow, what a way with words.
From dangerous cave to dangerous forest fire, unbelievable! The latter you’re very lucky to have gotten away safely. If you’d been caving any longer you could’ve been in serious trouble, the clip where you could see the fire through the trees was nerve racking. As an Australian I’ve lived through a lot of deadly fires, they travel terrifyingly fast, often impossible to outrun.
I know in our bushfires the animals that have burrows underground survive, their lives are only under threat after the fire as they have no food, after big fires we airdrop food in the affected areas to keep them alive - it’s certainly something I don’t mind our taxpayer money going towards. But if the fire had been right on top of you when you exited the cave you’d probably have been okay if you went back underground, the smoke wouldn’t go down that deep.
Of course, you could end up stuck there for a long while if emergency services can’t tame the fire but that’s preferable to getting cornered by a fire, getting consumed by flames is a truly awful way to go. I’m glad you got out of there safely!
I’m very new to this channel, but I’m already a huge fan! You and Jacob have such great personalities, are both very intelligent, and are both very informative about cave exploring! Thank you both for sharing these experiences, and keep up the great work 👍
Well those are very kind words thank you! I always tell Jacob hes rambunctious but it really translates well to video. Such an enthusiastic energetic young man.
Your so underrated man I've been bingeing your videos since I found them Haha. But like others said it seems like the algorithm may be picking you up so congrats and best wishes for your future exploring.
Thank you and glad you enjoy them. We do this with or without an audience but it sure is fun sharing the experience.
Oh no the poor trees
Poor crispy trees. Finish the video!
Usually I just watch caving just for the claustrophobic thrill of it..but I especially enjoy yours because you explain so well, and the diagrams helps a lot. I do worry about young Jacob....God watch over you both and keep you safe
Thank you so much! Jacob is a very reliable caver and there are things he does better than I do now.
This is an amazing channel I found one of your videos on the algorithm and I'm so thankful very educational
The pool in that cave is beautiful! Such clear waters, reminds me of how clear the Great Lakes are. I'm going to see my girlfriend in Socal in December, and though we're not going caving (we're going hiking in the Mojave to see the cinder cone fields) I'm excited to see more of the west coast
Hope you're all okay with the fires there, it's such a tragedy what's happening. My girlfriend was 10 miles from the Bobcat Fire
There's cool mud caves in the deserts east of LA/San Diego.
This cave was so pretty. We loved being in something different.
Can you make a video on “what to do if two people meet from opposite sides in a “birth canal” type passage? Seems like it would be a terrible predicament - but if anyone had any ideas on how to survive it my guess is that y’all would...
We might add it to a video. But the odds of it happening are astronomical. I've never once seen another person in a cave. These are extremely remote locations to begin with. And there are almost no passages which are long enough to give 2 people coming head on any trouble.
Perhaps just saying that might be good in a video. I'll put it in my notes.
Thx so much!
I've always wondered that exact same thing!
I love how you light the rooms for filming. I also love how you and your son bond and clearly love your experiences together.
Thank you! It is tough taking good video inside these caves.
I don’t know why but I can’t stop watching these videos there’s just something about it
We're glad.

We're just out here havin a good time!
@@CalvinHikes Woah you replied!
Amazing video, so cool to follow the adventures of you guys! Trying to find a new cave and then exploring it is always so exciting! Also happy you got out of the fires safely :)
Thanks. We were legitimately concerned. The hill that burned nearest to us was only about a mile away. That's REAL close when you're on foot.
Imagine being the age of Jakob and being able to do what he does. Balls of steel
I've been binge watching all your content since I've discovered your channel! Keep 'em comin!
Slow but sure!
This is a awesome channel!!! Thanks guys for your hard work!!! Awesome!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the channel boys. Keep up the awesome work.
Thank you.
I'm in Portland and will never forget the smoke from last year. What a horrible time for us.
The summer smoke replaces the winter clouds. We just cant get a clear sky.
That spring was absolutely gorgeous
Yup it's fantastic and totally drinkable. Just a beautiful little cave.
Finding a note in a bottle that has unfortunately vanished. Then deciding to climb into the next hole as if the note may have possibly said to avoid it. Love it.
Very nice explore!!!....you did a great job lighting the rooms, almost looks like natural light. Thanks for sharing your adventure!!!!!!....You guys "rock"!!!!!.....sorry for the pun!!!!!!
Thank you! Thank you for noticing the lighting... it is extremely difficult to pack all that lighting in and make all the proper adjustments to get good video. But we enjoy it.
I Wonder, why can I chill out so much watching man and a kid going through a real struggle.
Really enjoying this :) thankyou
Some how I ended up on your videos and I can't stop watching. Amazing what you do. Plus the father and son team is like no other. Your son will grow to be a wise warrior. Gained a sub from me. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you! Jacob is already a reliable caving partner.
You guys are awesome!
The way you teach your son & share the adventures is great. You are a good Man and because of the way you treat your son, he is no doubt a great man in the making.👍

“There’s a long crawl passage filled with water, it’s horrible but that’s the way out and that’s we’re gonna go!” More brave than I’ve ever been
Jacob it is very brave when it comes to finding an exit! No matter how much you love a cave you always love the exit most.
I love your enthusiasm for not only caving, but for life itself. The younger ones are learning so much more then the kids staring at video games
Thank you.
That's such a beautiful cave!!!! Wet feet are the worst!! So glad you got out of that fire quickly was a exceptionally bad year for fires felt it even up here in Canada so smokey
One idiot can destroy a forest. Fortunately, they haven’t found the caves.
I’m a massive claustrophobe but I’ve obsessively watched all your videos about caves today and now I have this almost morbid curiosity and intense desire to experience caving just once
It's intense in all the best ways. Practice by crawling in your clothes dryer and closing the door.
Geez! gd luck guys. Stay safe
10:11 Gets more intressting whit that scary music. when you try that thight squeeze. Keep safe and don´t take the dangerous ones.
Which ones are dangerous?

Glad you like it and thank you! That's a really unique and beautiful cave. We had so much fun.
Thankss for this type of videos keep inspiring us !
Youre welcome! Thanks for watching and the kind words.
Caves scare me in a way so watching others explore it makes me a lil tense but it is very beautiful and ominous. Watching you guys bond and explore together is admirable.
Ominous is an excellent description. Especially of the large caves where the darkness swallows the light.
Honestly love the narration tbh😂 and I love your videos
Thank you so much I really appreciate that.
i lately found this channel. can't stop watching it. greetings from bavaria :D
Wow, Bavaria!~ Thanks for the support and glad you like the vids.
Guess at 07:50 that really was Jacob's Ladder...
good things you guys get out before the fire reaches you/the cave. what an experience!

Wow! That fire was horrible! 😩 I'm glad you two got out safe. I'm going back to your older videos I'm a new subscriber and gotta catch up lol. Love your stuff,
Welcome to the dark frontier. There's a second channel if you get real bored!
We just came back from Glacier Natl Park in Montana a few weeks ago and even thee the visibility was terrible due to these same fires. Such a shame
It is a shame. It also can just ruin your ability to breathe. That smoke can spread however half the nation. 2020!
Thanks for crawling into these places so i don't have to hahaha. I just subbed man, thoroughly enjoying your and Jacob's adventures and looking forward to seeing more of them. If you haven't done one already, i'd be super keen to see a gear review of the stuff you guys use.
We haven't done one you yet but we are working on integrating one into of our videos.
Gear is very interesting because as with most sports it's not always the gear that's designed forward that works well. And really there is no good gear for lava tubes. So sometimes you just buy cheap stuff because you're going to destroy it.
Absolutely stunning cave! That pool is beautiful.
Yeah that's a remarkable cave given its small size and the fact that it's quite near my house. And nobody ever goes. It's just so hidden.
Wow! The concept terrifies me but I could see why you do it when you got to that pool. Beautiful.
That's a gem of a small cave.
But we like the terrible parts as well.
Jacob is Awesome. I love that he has a great mentor to follow.
Seeing other people face the fears I have makes me want to do it even more. Sure I don’t particularly want to go into tiny caves but I feel as though I would be better in tight spaces now. So thank you for that :)
it's really awesome to see a father and son
Love your videos man keep it up!
Also "Stay Safe"
Thanks, will do!
I love it the parental relationship. The eerie music. The claustrophobic caves. Good content here . 👌
Amazing. The pool looks soooo cool and the fire at the end shocked me ^^ Thanks for the video from german.
Thanks! Yet the pool of water was amazing. We would have got in it but it's a bit chilly. About 2° C.
That's really too bad about that bottle becoming filled with water, can't even imagine what was on the note
Probably some simple notes about the date and time and who entered the cave. Which we have most of the information on the original write up which we were using to attempt to locate this.
It's taken time... but we've learned that nothing in a wet cave survives. Nothing. There some consideration being made for steel block QR codes at entrances.
your videos are so good and so high quality that i sometimes think that this is a repost of a much bigger channel
Thank you... I think! I've been a photographer for a long time. Our "higher" production levels we would have even with no subs. We just like making videos of our adventures. That being said, even the last few months... people suggestions have helped immensely. Helped us tune what's interesting and what's not. The hard part is lighting the dark, damp freezing caves. No one can do it for us and no one ever will.
Also... I usually revisit caves after we make our initial video. To get good clear shots of things we missed in our adventure. On average, we're in a single cave 3 times to make a video.
Another great video. Keep it up!
Your videos are amazing!! I used to be claustrophobic but your videos inspired me to go caving!!! Great work keep it up😁
Thank you so much for the kind words! We're still claustrophobic. But it does get less over time.
wow you guys had the most unique way of finding out about the fires
Yes we did thank you very much. And do the first person do reference that period we went in the cave with fresh air and came out to the smoke. We were only inside for maybe 2 hours. Fires had started much earlier but the winds had just shifted.
Yo I've only been watching you for 2 weeks now and you already got me wanting to go explore my local cave
Go
I am now addicted to ur channel 😅😅😅 it's so good
Jacob has the best childhood
When u got stuck, *ANXIETY*
Awesome videos guys! Been watching a number of caving videos recently and you guys are great. Excellent teamwork!
Was the note legible at all?
No. Completely disintegrated. I suspect it was just a ledger for people to sign if they made it into the cave. But probably hasn't been open since maybe the sixties?
Very interesting cave! I have been following you guys for quite some time now and your videos never disappoint! You may be the best spelunkers on RUclips! You didn’t inadvertently start that fire did ya? Haha just ribbing ya
This is amazing coming from someone who’s way to scared to try thanks for the visual
Just found this channel, super underrated. Btw, Jacob is super brave.
