Supreme Court Seems Set to Preserve Access to Mifepristone in Likely Defeat for Abortion Foes

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Tuesday on the abortion pill mifepristone, which is available by mail and can be taken at home, even in states that have severely limited or banned abortions. The case was brought by a group of anti-choice medical associations that have sought to overturn moves by the Food and Drug Administration to increase access to the drug, which is used for roughly two-thirds of all U.S. abortions. This was the first abortion-related Supreme Court hearing since the court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. A decision is expected by July. "Overall the justices showed that they were skeptical of the claims brought by the plaintiffs in this case," says Michele Goodwin, a law professor at Georgetown University and founding director of the Center for Biotechnology and Global Health Policy. Goodwin summarizes the arguments presented by both sides, the justices' responses and the legal implications of the upcoming ruling.

Because conservatives packed the lower courts and these activist reich-wing judges are ruling not based on law or evidence, but based on political agenda.
It got the Supreme Court because otherwise the Fifth Circuit's decision, which largely upheld the district court's decision enjoining distribution of the abortion pill, would have stood. This would have brought about an immediate constitutional crisis.

As an OB/GYN provider, I totally disagree with you. They can have their religious objections. It is up to their employer to accept this or not hire them or decrease their pay. Clinics and hospitals have been making these arrangements since abortion became legal mid '70's.

My mother had ten children and lost... I don't know how many... by miscarries, and others...by maybe back alley methods to abort. She spent most of her life pregnant, are recovering from the effects of being pregnant. The last child she birthed, has birth defects, before started taking birth control pill, and she spent the rest of her life as a single mother, caring for her. I was the oldest girl, and spent most of my life caring for my younger siblings. I can't remember having a childhood. When my mother became elderly, and unable to care for herself, I, being the oldest, ended up caring for her and my younger disabled sibling for years, until she died. The only thing that saved my mother from having more children. was the birth control pill. I resent seeing these men, and some women, who wants women to have as many children they can bear, because of "their" religious beliefs. They call themselves "pro-life,." yet they also, do not want to provide for these children, their mothers, or caregivers to take care of them in ways that would help, them have a good life. For myself, I have struggled with taking care of myself, my own children, my siblings who are not able to take of themselves. I say, if some people who going to force women to have as many children as they can bear, they should also provide free child care, schooling, job training, etc., until the children can be self-sufficient. If not, stay out of women's business, unless, you, your church are going to take care of all these children. I guess they can continue to have them killed by the wars we start, or by policemen's, if they do a crime, because of how they were raised or not raised, or raised themselves, after they are born.

The only known original source of such a rumor is "Mechanism of abortion induced by ascorbic acid" published in a 1966 Soviet "Bulletin of experimental biology and medicine." Not the most trustworthy paper.

Real libertarians will never be Republicans or Republican loyalists. You can always _write-in_ an anti-authoritarian person if no candidates for a position fit that bill.
This will continuously reduce the power of _both_ authoritarian parties in the two-party monopolies. Until our task is complete.
