RUclips never ceases to deliver. I was at this game and I remember Royal's goal vividly. Funny thing was, my older brother was with me in the City stand - and he was a Liverpool fan. I never let him forget this great result!

That Liverpool side (78/79) was one of the greatest in the history of the game in England. They conceded only 16 goals in 42 games, and lost just 4 times. One of those defeats being at Ashton Gate, to little old BCFC! We don't have much to shout about but that was something to beat Hansen, Souness, Dalglish and co, in their pomp.

As a Liverpool fan I’d like to thank you for the compliments about the 1978-79 side. It was always my favourite (and we did have a few to choose from!). I’d also like to think that the vast majority of Liverpool fans wouldn’t have begrudged Bristol City fans their moment of joy, though it’s not always evident from online postings.

I was there as well, some of the most amazing memories standing in either the East End or the Park End.

Joe Royle was the greatest Everton centre forward of the lot in my book. Pity he got so prone to injury in his last few seasons at Goodison. His goal here against Liverpool in 1970 in our 3-2 defeat was classic build-up play - Royle, Morrissey, Ball, Morrissey, Royle - GOAL! Whittle's goal a classic too!

1:41 Terry McDermott really deserved a goal for his off the ball run after making the first pass. Brilliant football from an underrated player.

I was there........best game ever experienced was Coventry away when we stayed up. Never seen anything like that night at a football game. The whole of Coventry was overwhelmed by Bristol city supporters

I was at that match. I also went to school with Trevor Tainton. We went to Hengrove in Bristol & he was a year younger than me. About 3 months ago, I met Janzen Derrick. Now there was a skillful player. I saw him on his City debut aged 16 when he scored direct from a corner. Anyone remember that? I do & certainly Janzen did when I talked to him about it!

before kick off santa claus (it was a week until xmas) on a horse drawn cart was throwing mini mars bars into the crowd - when he got to the small group of liverpool fans, he ignored them then carried on throwing them to the rest of the crowd which resulted in the chant "fuck off santa" which I have never heard since

I went to every home match bar one that season. Unforgetable, and I want you all to know that Bristol City were never outplayed on their home ground that season, bar one match against Coventry. Problem was they didn't have a good striker, they bought Joe Royle, he started off well against St Mirren, but what a disaster afterwards. One of the best was Trevor Tainton, and of course Norman Hunter, they were maginificent.

I was there - behind the goal in the East End. Great times and maybe we'll be back up there within the next 5 years.
I remember the Clive Whitehead interception very well. Liverpool had been playing the ball across the back 4 all game, almost inviting someone to pick it off as Whitehead did. Shame it didn't lead to a second goal...

Graeme Souness elbows Trevor Tainton to the floor (2.28 mins) then checks he's okay, before "tracking back." Nice touch, Graeme. We paid you back in 94 at Anfield (1:0!)

Joe Royle at the end of his career really. Suffered back injury while at Man City and was never really the same player after. Still chipped in with the odd important goal though like this one.
