    What typically happens with these Nissan engines is over time, the main chain tensioner guide fails. The plastic guide has a hook at the top that keeps it up so that the tensioner can keep pressure on the plastic hump. That guide hasn't broke and the tensioner is not even extended. The cam tensioner guides are in good shape too. This is a clear issue of not changing the oil. Can't keep pressure on those tensioners with sludge. Good vid, and a tip for the crank bolt, break it free first before u do anything else. Just use a long breaker bar, brace it on the ground, and bump the ignition. Works like a charm, especially with these Nissans 😁

    Thank you so much for showing us this process. I have 2019 Pathfinder that started a cold start rattle last week....I'm praying it's just the main tensioner extended like this one. Not sure what else it could be......maybe the actuator motor for the vtc gear. I wish you were in GA.

    Here’s my question, when you did this job did you have to change the acuators? I paid a guy to do timing chain tensioners and water pump. Got the car back and on the way home it drove fine. The next day the traction control light came on for the first time. 2 days later the engine light came on with cam codes and a mAF sensor code. The mechanic took it back and isn’t updating me at all. I’ve read somewhere that when you do this job you need to change the cam acuators as well but I don’t know. Just looking for any advise as I owe on this vehicle still . 2019 qx60. Sorry about blowing up your comments

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  28 дней назад

      @damianspears2469 gotcha...
      1st thing I'll need is codes. Ideally a full scan of all modules. This will help draw correlations to what's typically needed.
      The abs and engine codes can sometimes be related depending on issue. Like, engine code with misfire can cause abs code and light to illuminate. I'll need a minimum of the engine code to go further.
      To answer regarding the actuators, no, they don't require replacement for water pump service. Logically, if everything worked fine before a human touched it, it should work the same after. Typically, when I hear back stories like yours, it's a result of human error and we have to go back over what's done.
      Try checking your oil level and making sure you have oil in your truck. Make sure you check between the 2 peaks of the dipstick in the valley several times to ensure accuracy.
      Update me with your code when you get them. Thanks

    • @damianspears2469
      @damianspears2469 28 дней назад

      @ only had a cheap scanner.
      P34c4
      P34c5
      P34B1
      P34B0
      P34AA
      P0101
      The car was going through gas like never before. I understand that could be due to the maf sensor. We gave the car to him with the horrible ticking. Tensioners were barely hanging on, had a p0300 random misfire but the whole time we owned the car and drove it 120k miles never once had an engine light come on. I’m worried that he bit more than he could chew

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  28 дней назад

      @damianspears2469 thanks. Was the ticking happening after the repair or preexisting before repair? For clarification

    • @damianspears2469
      @damianspears2469 28 дней назад

      @ no ticking at all once repair was made. Actually sounded good

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  28 дней назад

      @damianspears2469 just from observing your codes. Seem the correlation maybe loose connections. But then you have reference position codes.
      I recommend performing an "Actuator relearn test" 1st. This option will be provided within the scan tool in pcm under special functions, depending on their tool. If he doesn't have one, there's a manual method.
      IVT REFERENCE POSITION RELEARN PROCEDURE
      1. Turn ignition switch on
      2. Disconnect electric IVT control actuator harness connector (actuator side).
      3. Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 70 seconds.
      4. Turn ignition switch OFF.
      5. Reconnect the disconnected harness connector.
      6. Start engine and let it idle at least 15 seconds.
      7. Turn ignition switch OFF.
      8. Check and erase DTC.
      TRY THIS ABOVE.. if there's no luck. Clear codes and see what are IMMEDIATE COMBACKS. Meaning, clear codes, start engine (check for codes of any) if none, drive around the block and recheck. Document the immediate codes and get back with me

    A question, brother, about the intake cam, if it has regulation on the side where it delays and advances the time, you know if it has a position in the middle

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  2 месяца назад +1

      @jaimesupernatural cams advances timing. Call me crazy but I never seen one float the way you're referring.
      The lock state is the natural neutral state. Once energized, it advances timing, and it's sustained through pulse width. When you're doing the timing they have to be oriented in their spot properly or you'll have timing codes, either advance or retarded related.
      The "middle" would be it's locked and in-time state.
      Hope that answer your question

    • @jaimesupernatural
      @jaimesupernatural 2 месяца назад

      @partsshooter In the intake cam the part that rotates must be distributed in the middle then to place the cover where it feels
      I have to spread it out until it's equal side by side.

    Problem number 1….the oil change interval from the factory. Set on the dash from the factory is incorrect as it is with most vehicles now days. DO NOT GO OVER 5k period for any reason with an oil. Don’t care what the manual says , don’t care what amsoil says , don’t care what extended mileage oils and filters says … don’t even care what Nissan says…. Ow20, full synthetic , every 5k max on this gen pathfinder or you’ll wind up like the engine in this video…..

    Traditionally, I thought a timing chain was good for the life of a car. My first car was a parental 9 yr old Ford hand-me-down, but it was a set of wheels and I was delighted. I came home for lunch as a teen and it never started again. (timing chain failure). Isn't this a little early for TC failure on a 2017/18 Nissan?
    P.S. Labor time is 11 hrs and my mechanic charges at least $140/hr labor making this repair starting at $1,540 + parts + taxes.

    It appears this engine is really sludged up. Is that due to not changing the oil frequently , poor quality fuel or perhaps both. My 2008 Buick Enclave had to have a head removed, camshaft walk, back cylinder head, engine had to be dropped. Inside it looked like a new engine that had never been ran or put into service. I feel this Nissan engine was not treated well at all. I just saw the milearge 140,000 at the rate I am going I would be 91years old to get that many miles on our 2019.

    The problem with this video is lots of talk but not much of showing,,,
    You don’t show every single bolt by bolt removal neither you show removing and installing the chain neither any of the timing chain marks and how to align it
    All these bolts should have torque specifications said in the video
    This video only shows YES IT CAN BE DONE WITH THE ENGINE IN THE CAR but you’re pretty much on your own 😂
    Luckily there’s another video a guy spray painting his timing cover explaining how to set timing also the video is frozen for a sec with all cover bolt torque specs 19-21 and so on
    And honestly if you have let’s say scissor mid rise lift it’s easier to drop entire drivetrain with subframe and everything attached and then do it sitting on a chair then all this
    I mean this wouldn’t be so hard if there was actually a video of someone doing it with camera mounted on his forehead and following the hands bolt by bolt

There are plenty of other videos with the engine out of the car that will show you in detail other steps he covered as well and with everything combined, should have the knowledge necessary to walk through this technical process.
