This is the kind of stuff we need. Not the shitty behindwoods videos. I haven't seen this movie, nor any movie that came during this period. Now I feel that the current generation should start watching the old movies.
Thank You BR sir for reviewing this Conundrum of a movie... My mother who got married to dad in 1974 is from AP and did not know a word of tamil. These movies were her tamil tutor and she learnt to read 2 names in Tamil... 1. My dad s name and 2. Kamalahasan (her fav actor). When i became a teen, she introduced me to these movies... Moondru Mudichi, Apoora Ragangal, avargal, and Sila Nerangalil..... only to name a few. Though a housewife, my mom had a very liberal outlook. She greatly appreciated KB sir s movies for the way they respected and defined the inimitable strength in a woman. When are you doing "Sila nerangalil....." Thank You Sir.. You took me down the nostalgia lane and brought my mom back to life for me.. if only for a few moments.
I am a ChennaiPonnu living in Austin TX. Your videos and many more are like Vasanth Bhavan Idlies ( No I dont like Saravana Bhavan) and a T Nagar Geetha Cafe coffee to me. It takes me back to my childhood watching these classics with my mom at my Anna Nagar Home. I did not know one Mr. BR existed until I as recently as last year began watching Anupama Chopra s videos and then found you. I love the intellectual dissection you do in your reviews.. It was such a fresh feeling to watch your unintimidating, and honest reviews of the movies. You are a KB of movie reviewers BR Sir. Your videos remind me of Simi ji videos. Like I once messaged Simi ji, your videos stand the test of time. I watched Mani sir s interview by you recently and it was still fresh. Congratulations, I just got to know you are a National Award winning critic. Rightly deserving...
KB movies were brave to introduce ideas and concepts that were hitherto a taboo to be discussed in public fora! My dad love KB and introduced me to his fabulous work....I plan to do the same with my son once he is ready to digest and assimilate KB and his craft!
Thank you Mr.Baradwaj for the way make us rethink, revisit the movies,scenes..break up little details, nuances that we fail to notice..incomparable is the mastery over his craft.. the Legendary "Director"..
No word about B.S.Lokanath who got national award for all the camera angles you spoke about ? Also major arc in this film is questioning, KB himself said to MSV and Kavingar ( available in Msv RUclips channel ) there will be no climax rather a ending of a song will end the movie, which got us Kavilen Nayagane song.
Nice narration B. Rangan sir. What I love in writing in this movie is the way Rajini character revelealed by short montage just before resolution, Master K.B clearly avoid lengthy flash back.
Beautifully put together on one of Balachander's classics..I love watching old film scenes for their sheer class and poignancy...They do make you nostalgic ...Thanks.
Brilliant analysis. This was my first Tamil movie without subs. Couldn't find them, so I had to make do with my very poor Tamil. Adored the movie, but I knew that I was missing an incredible amount. Watched it again with subs. Realized I had missed even more than I had first thought. Now after watching this analysis, I'm realizing that I barely understood it on my first watch, resorting to passive viewing in response to a lack of language comprehension. Like dipping my toe into a vast blue sea and pulling it out because the water's too cold and too deep. Layers can be intimidating, but they're so fun to pick apart. Do Aval Appadithan next. "Ahead of its time" doesn't even begin to cover it.
I grew up reading your reviews every Sunday in The Hindu paper. So happy that you are on RUclips! Awesome video! Loved every bit of it. It would be great if the next episode is on Sindhu Bairavi!
Great analysis with nostalgia sir.....you put in the right words to express what others feel about a movie but fail to do so....you are doing a wonderful job sir...look forward to all your work... thanks a bunch....a fan!!!!!
This is called as a Film Appreciation and a Review.. Reviews are not only meant for new releases.. Thank you BR. By the way, any sources to watch this movie legally.
Fantastic BR. Would like to see more of Balachander and Mani Ratnam in Flashback.. Your flashbacks are as interesting, compelling and engaging as the movies themselves.
I would appreciate if you had done an ode to KB on three best movies of his: boy, I fell hard for his movies and I probably was only 6 or 7 years when I watched his aboorva raagangal ... Glad you had reviewed Mahendran's movies, a couple of them. Why not on KB's stellar picks from Nagesh to Shobha to Kamalahassan to Vivek to Prakash Raj ... I think you should do this Mr Rangan. No excuses.
Wonderful start, Sir! Thank you so much for such a detailed and fine analysis. Didn't feel like it was the first episode. I hope you would do Sindhubhairavi or Sagara Sangamam soon
Great review sir .. still i could not understand , what the director is trying to say in the last frame .... Srividya's key chain in kamal's hands .....if somebody explains , i will be grateful ...
Mr.BR For your information, Sindhu Bairavi was released in 1985 not in 1975..... Please don't give the incorrect Info's....... Why I am saying this 1976 was the Movie entry of Illayaraja for Sindhu bairavi(1985) he got the National award... Timeline is more important when you're sharing the past information...
Awesome as usual... The action scene without actually showing it yet giving the impact is brilliant both by KB Sir and Yourself picking it out... I always find action scenes just an easy extension of time tool so that you needn't think of dialogues or expressions, etc... if not done with any creativity... Something like Theeran's action scenes I enjoy if done with some creativity and thought giving a WOW feel, but just a guy hitting 10 others and breaking glass items and 20 Tata Sumo's is just lack of intelligence of writing and direction yet wanting to make the Movie a certain duration so keeping it type.... Hoping for some Maniratnam classics of the 80's next especially an Underrated yet brilliant one like Anjali!
Hi dont know whether you are doing this now. Am catching the old videos only but if you have stopped and not doing pls do try to post these now especially with the lockdown.and also try exploring this genre of masala films which had some uniqueness and different than other masala films. For eg like baasha, sakalakalavallavan, padayappa etc....
SIR ur the best in what u do...I feel u do not get as much views which u deserve... Request you to do ur videos in tamil as well...So tat u gain more recognition than other paid and biased reviews
You are doing a great work.. A small suggestion. Why dont you along doing these tamil films analyses suggest/introduce at the end of each video a world cinema classic. It would be a great thing on the long run. I don't know whether it's possible, just said what I feel will add more value.
Bharad sir... u made a small mistake....sindhu bhairavi was released in 1985..not in 1975... please make sure u r correct in release dates while doing flashback sessions..
Please BR, stop yielding to Tamil people's popular demands like Rajinikanth. He had a minor role to play and keep him there. This was the year I was born and I must have seen it for the first time in 1982 or something, and it was love at first sight ... Instant!!! None like KB.
Sir idhellam k.balachander ku theriyuma avaru onnu eduthirupaar neenga solrathu avarukkae aachiryama irukumo!! That you r creating new analysis or the filmaking and the direction itself is really deep🤔🙄
This is the kind of stuff we need. Not the shitty behindwoods videos. I haven't seen this movie, nor any movie that came during this period. Now I feel that the current generation should start watching the old movies.
Thanks so much. Do spread the word. We need more people to come and watch :-) BTW, Behindwoods does some very nice interviews.

Wow. Thank you so much for this moving comment, Deepa P. This is what makes it worth it.

Agree completely, fellow Austinite.
Hey Adithya Hello Fellow Austinite...
@@deepap6147 I am Deepa too and I come from Annanagar too. Can't help but smile 😊
And we can't forget that,This movie influenced a lot of indian film makers, to go non verbal. Yet another awesome job #BR.
Loved it, simply brilliant. So, we had chapters way before Tarantino popularised it. #tamilcinemadaww
Thanks :-)
Probably the first Indian movie to use chapters or inter-titles.
@@b0rangan You gotta do the reviews of the 70's classics incl JM's poottaadha poottukkal too. What great movies these are ...
Unforgettable film
Excellent anaysis

At some point, definitely. Thanks.
Sir talk about avargal one of my fav KB sir's movie
Balachander way ahead of its time
Sir I feel this film talks about Freudian theory of Oedipal complex and Elektra complex like Hitchcock psycho.
Ah finally I understand what those chapter names mean. Thank u baddy.
It was interesting to hear the explanation about chapter titles based on Carnatic music terms, esp. the one called Sruti Bedham.
padam paartha pudikuma nu therla ... but the way u explained the movie was super and brought smiles!!!
Super narration
Wonderful looking at the movie thru your eyes.
This movie gives me insight of Vijay Mallya Love story & his Son in this decade!!!
Agree??
Great start. Looking forward to more in this new Flashback series!
Thank you.
I grew up reading your reviews every Sunday in The Hindu paper. So happy that you are on RUclips!

Wow 😊 I follow #AskBR religiously. Looking forward to watch this too.

Thanks a lot for this awesome new series, sir.

Always a treat to watch your show .Don't think YOU need a fact check but Sindhi Bhairavi in 1975 ?
That was a mistake.
New series, liking it a lot, how about Sigappu Rojakkal for a future flashback?
Keep guessing :-)

Expect lots of older films :-)
Sir please do one for an Arangetram . My most favourite black and white movie .

Not many people, particularly film critics says the following "Women does not have so much agency in Balachander movies".. Respect #BR
We're also talking of a time that was far more rigid than now. And the same KB made the other woman drink whiskey at 10 pm ...

Sindhu bairavi was released on 1985

Sindhu Bairavi 1975 ??🙄
Sir! I believe Sindhu Bharavi was released in the year 1985.
Yes, he said 75 by mistake.
Yes, my bad!
Baradwaj Rangan it's OK. It happens. But I enjoy watching all your video with utmost keen and unobtrusive viewing. You are doing great.👍

Of course, sila interpretations la verupaadu irukkalaam. But he was a thinking director. He really knew what he was doing.
Baradwaj Rangan 👍
God, watch his movies.
OK movie. Not a Balachander level movie, for sure. Balachander tried some different style movies after 1975, some of which were very poor.
