Breath of the Wild: How Nintendo Will FIX The Zelda TIMELINE (Part 2)

  • PART 1 - • Breath of the Wild: Wh...
    We've gone over the evidence pointing Breath of the Wild to a possible "inevitable" timeline for all 3 splits in the first part. Now it's time to look at the Zelda timeline overall and how Breath of the Wild fits into it.
    The Zelda timeline overall had been up to debate for years even before Nintendo's acknowledgement of it. But when an official timeline was released within the book Hyrule Historia, some had their doubts as to how valid it was.
    New splits and games have been added as well as moved around in an attempt to "fix" the timeline. But even then, not all the problems have been fixed.
    But how does Breath of the Wild fit into all this? Can it somehow be used to fix the timeline for future Zelda titles? Today we look deeper into that in the second part of the Breath of the Wild timeline theory!

      I stand by my comment in every timeline theory placement video I have seen this far. Yes, breath of the wild takes place in a separate timeline however is still connected to the timeline we know. In ocarina of Time, I believe there is a possible fourth outcome where the hero stays in the future. He knows the future needs him to help rebuild and prepare for ganons return and he doesn't really have a place to go to if he went back. Doing so could have led up to the creation of the Devine beasts and the guardians and opened up a vast space for a slew of games to b created within this timeline split

    This has to be the best timeline placement theory I have ever seen, and even the game backs it up in a way. The whole thing about Hyrule getting completely destroyed, the king's "I was the last leader of Hyrule", and at the end, with Hyrule getting rebuild from the ground up, it is a metaphor for ditching the old formula and starting again. Perhaps breath of the wild is the real timeline, and all of the old games are just Legends, though this legends hold some true to the history of the world.

    This quote perfectly summed my thoughts on the downfall timeline, as it always seemed kind of thrown together, and lacked the continuity of the other 2 lines. It wasnt untill future games when Nintendo actually tried to make sense of this order - and that's why we see most of these games in the child and adult splits, while the older ones in the "trash bin" split.

The bad thing is if they keep it as open as Botw it would be hard to go narrative because there wouldn't be an order since it's all free will. That's why I liked Twilight Princess and to some extent Skyward Sword because while it wasnt completely open world it was open enough that there was some exploring but it at least focused on the narrative. Nah, I would actually love if they went more character heavy instead. The story of Zelda games has always been very vague and open to interpretation and player fantasy and that's partly why I thin it has lasted so far. It's also how they have been able to take essentially the same story and remodel it for each game. Zelda has always been good at making characters that we get an emotional reaction to in one way or the other, whether that be positive or negative it's still a reaction. However these characters are rarely fleshed out in any real way, much like how Link and Zelda are not really fleshed out either.
      In BotW they did some of this in the DLC and while I loved what was there it only made it more obvious how much unused potential there was. We read about the relationship Link had with Daruk and with Mipha (and the Zora people in general), we see a potential rivalry with Revali (that sadly goes nowhere but imagine if they had more interactions) , and we do get to see some really endearing moments between Urbosa and Zelda. Much of this has immense potential for more character focused stuff and things that would have been awesome to have been shown rather than told through the diaries. Hell even the actual relationship between Link and Zelda had some really interesting potential and that's besides the whole romance thing.
      I don't know if maybe what I'm talking about may fall under what you mean with story or not though. As I write it out I suppose that too is story in a way.
      In a perfect world I'd have a Zelda game with rich characters and a good story with amazing gameplay.

The original forms of those games will be declared officially non-canon. Going back and playing the original forms will be like watching the original Star Wars trilogy in their original forms, without any adjustments that have them make sense in the Star Wars timeline.

      Though, it's kinda trivial. You can and cannot fit Breath of the Wild into any timelines. I know it's sounds convoluted but let me explain.
      Its story begins 10 000 years prior to the main events with an advanced civilization taking out Calamity Gannon. That civilization is obviously not the same as in Skyward's Sword. The same goes for the events 100 years prior since, yeah, the hero has fallen, but that has nothing to do with Link being defeated by Gannon or Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. Although, these events clearly mimic those. There's even a "fishy" love interest for Link.
      In Breath of the Wild everything is so distant in time that events prior to the events from 10 000 years ago literally turn into Schrödinger's cat.

      Amanda The Legend of Zelda was never meant to have a timeline, precisely because it restricts creativity. A timeline was created only to satisfy the American audiences. Literally nobody else in the planet cares about a timeline, but Nintendo has always tried very hard to please the American audience for whatever reason, and this is true not only for the Legend of Zelda, but every game series. I am very glad Nintendo is coming clean and getting rid of the old timeline, because it was nonsense, and I think the games should just be taken to be what they were meant to be: legends, and not pieces of a timeline.

    You're wrong about a lot of things, it's still edited well. They first confirmed the timeline split when Wind Waker was coming out, then again with Twilight Princess. I think it was Majora's Mask that first had the game going in different timelines. I do strongly think they were keeping a timeline in mind since the beginning. Zelda 2 is obviously a sequel to Zelda 1. A Link to the Past is called that because it's before the first 2 games. Ocarina of Time has been called the origin game many times and is was originally made to be the sealing war from ALttP's prologue. However, there are so many problems with OoT being the sealing war from ALttP so that's why the Fallen Timeline was introduced. It's meant to cover up the plot holes with ALttP being a sequel to OoT. And if Fallen Hero's timeline was just a "trash bin" for older games, then Four Swords (Which you forgot to list), Four Swords Adventures and The Minish Cap would be there too. The Fallen Timeline was the "original" Adult timeline. Majora's Mask, which took place after the ending where Link is sent back in time (as we see in the Zelda cutscene of the game) was written by different story writers and wanted to continue from there. As for why Link's Awakening was moved in the new timeline, it's because the Oracle games can't take place as the same Link as ALttP. Zelda doesn't know Link in the Oracle games prior to her appearing in there.

      actually,a link to the past is called that because the link to the past was actually an item once. its still in the gamedata i think,but the slot is the mirror now and the past world is replaced by the dark world. that is where they got the idea from to make young link work in oot(originally only adult link was planned). also,yeah,its a weird plothole that zelda introduces herself to link in oracle. i dont know what happened there,otherwise its pretty much a perfect prequel to links awakening(he sets off to become stronger,then travels to the other realms and links awakening is what happens on the way back to hyrule)

    • @angelmendez-rivera351
      @angelmendez-rivera351 4 года назад

      Evy Devy You're the one who is wrong here. *I do believe they had a timeline from the beginning.* If you actually believe this, then you are incredibly ignorant and have not paid attention to the interviews. From the very first game, it has been made explicit that a chronology was not intended for these games, and that the series was meant as an anti-parallel to the Super Mario Bros. series in terms of gameplay and nothing else. A Link to the Past does not take place in the past, as the Triforce sage has nothing to do with the original two games, but rather is called this due to the fact that Link travels to the past, which is heavily implied when you read the game description in Japanese.
      *Four Sword, Four Swords Adventures and Minish Cap would be there too.*
      These games are not nearly as old as you're making them seem, as they all cane after the games that were originally placed on a timeline, so you are wrong. Also, Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, and Minish Cap are all part of the same subseries, the Vaati arc. They could honestly form a fourth timeline of their own, but the events of Minish Cap happen to precede those of Ocarina of Time in a very obvious fashion. The original "initial game" was Minish Cap, in fact, not Ocarina of Time, and this only changed with Skyward Sword being released.
      *The Fallen Timeline was the original Adult timeline.*
      This makes no sense when you consider that the games that you said belong in the Fallen Timeline by previous reasoning are in the Child Timeline and not the Adult Timeline. If anything, the Fallen Timeline could be eliminated in favor of placing A Link to the Past and every game afterwards as after Four Swords Adventures. Then there are only two timelines, which genuinely makes more sense, although this doesn't really eliminate any contradictions.
      Link's Awakening doesn't genuinely belong in the timeline, and it barely even counts as Nintendo game, since the game was only coproduced and it was initially intended as a spin off, much like Cadence. It's a game on the same lines as Link's Deluxe Training or Triforce Heroes.

    • @angelmendez-rivera351
      @angelmendez-rivera351 4 года назад +1

      Greg Fenton Nintendo is not trying to tie up any mistakes, Nintendo is trying to get rid of the timeline concept altogether so they do not have to keep being pressured into it, because they have never wanted a timeline to exist for these games and even now, they still do not, which is clear from the statements they have been making on interviews since the first game. I am confused as to why it has taken American fans nearly 40 years to realize that Nintendo does not want a timeline when they have been saying so from the beginning. It also is no secret that the rushed timeline they made only exists because Nintendo wanted to give an attempt to satisfy the American audience, since literally no other community of the fandom in the world is asking for a timeline.

      Inuyashapupped That's not accurate. Nowhere is it stated that said power is limited by the power of the goddesses. The games call this item an omnipotent item. So that description you give it is false. But, that is a little besides the point mainly in that the games are inconsistent and also find themselves showing the Triforce isn't really capable of anything. There have been many times where the Triforce has been in the hands of someone else and it has proven not very useful for anyone. The most it has ever accomplished is flood Hyrule. Interesting. Let's consider though that there is a difference between creating the same scenario in two timelines and a merge of timelines. Continuing on the comet analogy... If there is a split in the timeline before a comet hits, and the impact leads to identical scenarios in both timelines. In that case, if there are survivors after the comet hits, they will still have completely different memories in each timeline. So if it's correct that Breath of the wild is the inevitable outcome for all three timelines as described in this video. Then the different timelines still exist, and there are three identical Breath-of-the-wild events in each timeline. And these identical events would inevitably have their own unique history. That means that Breath of the wild in the adult timeline will still not be able to reference for example Twilight Princess. Which says something about what timeline this particular breath of the wild belongs to. Meaning that Nintendo would still have to think about timelines in the future should they want to refer to history. That is unless there is a merge. Which would force the characters in the game to regard all timelines as a part of their own history. That would be a very interesting history book indeed.

    • @hiimchrisj
      @hiimchrisj 5 лет назад +6

      Let's also consider this: Human recorded history only goes back roughly 5000 years. Before that any adventures any ancient humans undertook are all erased and can only be theorized upon.
      For comparison BotW's history goes back 10k years and before that we have to take into account that at the beginning of said history, the Shiekah having risen back into prominence and advancing to the point of making these insanely intricate and massive machines. That in it of itself must've taken a few hundred maybe even thousands of years. So we're looking at an incredibly massive span of time here.
      And yes, you're right in that even if some inevitable event happens in all timelines, the history's would still need to be different inherently. But frankly that only effects the short term. If a meteor hit and destroyed all of civilization, yes the survivors would all have different memories, but the descendants some thousands of years removed from said survivors will only remember the meteor.
      My point being, any reference to any previous games would be legends whose factual basis would've been lost in the many thousands of years from which they would've taken place. For what would technically be a false legend in one timeline could be true for another, but either way it doesn't matter because as far as they're concerned in the present day ALL of them are just legends.
      Using your example of someone in the adult timeline not being able to reference twilight princess, they CAN do that, it's just that in said timeline it would simply be a false legend. We're so far removed for it to even matter.

    • @angelmendez-rivera351

      Christian Exactly. Not to mention that something related to the Twilight realm could have happened prior to the events of 10,000 years ago, and they could just be unlisted or irrelevant, so the game can make those references. People just don't seem to grasp the 10,000 years idea.

    The problem isn't the "freedom" to create (since Zelda games have always been about Gameplay first, story comes second), the problem is "focus".
    The official timeline placement of Breath of the Wild makes zero sense in both story, scientific or in any common way of sense you can think of.
    What I mean is that while fans say they played everything Zelda games have to offer they actually have proven not to have played ALL the games the franchise have to offer or even fully beaten some of the games(which actually helps point out where BotW truly belongs to timeline wise). What Nintendo did was basically a "cop out" that have to create more work then they thought possible. Because NOW they would have to create a games that solves the issue with the flooded Hyrule(Adult Timeline) and a game that recovers the lost Triforce of Power(Child Timeline).
    BotW taking place in the Downfall timeline way after Zelda 2 makes sense because from a narrative perspective it all fits:
    -Royal Family Tradition of naming the first born daughter "Zelda"
    -Royal Family having the full Triforce in their possession
    -Link being a member of the family of the Royal Guard
    -Divine Beasts
    -Master Sword
    -The actual magical abilities of the 4 Champions(those that played Zelda 2 would know what I mean).
    The more people play Zelda games the more people are realizing that BotW makes more story narrative sense to belong in the Downfall Timeline split.

    • @hiimchrisj

      When you say that BotW being an inevitability makes zero sense scientifically and in common sense, frankly I just think you don't have a grasp of how massive a span of time 10,000+ years really is.
      For comparison human recorded history only goes back roughly 5000 years. Everything before that is an absolute mystery aside from the general gist of it we can gather from fossil records and even within that 5000 years there's still a LOT of ambiguity.
      My point being that while, yes, technically even if they all lead to BotW they'd all have distinctively different histories, frankly given the span of time we're covering here it's not inconceivable that history got so jumbled up that the Hyrulians could've come up with a bunch of random legends to explain their supposed history. One could be true, all could be a load of bs. It's so far removed it doesn't matter.

      @@hiimchrisj The problem with your statement is that you think we are the same as the people of Hyrule. Last time I checked I lived long enough to play ALL of the Zelda games which is why I know that BotW takes narratively in the downfall timeline. It fits with the theme of the Downfall Timeline(eras of Decline and Prosperity). Not only that but Zelda calls Link the "Hero of Hyrule" a title that only exists in the Downfall timeline games ESPECIALLY Zelda 2.
      The Triforce being in Zelda's hands also fits with the DT(downfall timeline) because at the end of Zelda 2 the Triforce is complete and in the hands of the Royal Family.
      Remember the mechanical things the Sheikah created? Also in Zelda 2 as something the Royal Family of that time actually started on with the help of someone(with the current knowledge that someone are the Shiekah tribe).
      The multiple attacks by GANON also is a theme in the Downfall Timeline since Ganon is the main enemy of that timeline.
      Also you have to study "The Butterfly Effect" to know that an events like:
      Link dying (DT)
      Link is victorious and disappeared (AT)
      Link returns to the past to warn Zelda of the threat of Ganondorf (CT)
      All these major divergence had MAJOR changes that happened afterwards like:
      Ganondorf getting the full Triforce and become the Demon King Ganon (DT)
      Ganondorf is sealed for a time then breaks free that made the Goddesses flood Hyrule and then is sealed by the Master Sword after the King wished Hyrule to be WASHED AWAY(as in Destroyed) (AT)
      Ganondorf is captured and the majority of his people are killed off living a few survivors that integrated into the Hylian society(CT)
      Remember that Urbosa herself stated that Nabooru is a CELEBRATED Gerudo. Why? Because she stood against Ganondorf. But that event only transpired in two timelines(DT and AT). It doesn't happened in the Child Timeline.
      This is why fans need to read the narrative of the STORY CONTENT of the games. Not the obvious Easter Eggs Nintendo is famous for putting in their games.

    I still adamantly disagree that Breath of the Wild can come after the adult timeline AND any other timeline. To put it simply, the great flood destroyed Hyrule and the New Hyrule was in a very different part of the world. The only way Breath of the Wild could be part of that future would be if the topography and landmarks in New Hyrule magically mirrored old Hyrule. I can see it being the inevitable end of the Fallen and Child timelines OR the Adult timeline, but without a joint global catastrophe like your meteor analogy, it cannot follow all 3, and even then how do landmarks like the Temple of Time, Lon Lon Ranch ruins, or even the Lost Woods remain the same?

    • @gerg905
      @gerg905 5 лет назад +12

      Well in real life just because something floods doesn't mean that it stays that way. Water always recedes. I could think of two outcomes of Wind Waker that'd fit both are stretches admittedly. First, the Great Sea is receding. That of course would mean that there's much more water in the world than ours and the world Zelda takes place on would have to be roughly the size of Jupiter in order for the water to recede that slowly over hundreds of years. Second could be that the Great Sea is actually just the Great Lake. It's definitely not impossible since nobody goes too far from their own known land let alone the map for windwaker. I can't find a stat on the largest lake ever on earth, but I know Lake Bonneville covered 20k sq miles while the map of wind waker is about 7k sq miles. So although there is no canon size there are markings on the map 1000x1000 on each cell you zoom in on. This would make an estimate by miles generous because since it's a japanese game it's more likely 7k sq kilometers which is only 2.7k sq miles. And before you say you'd be able to see the other side of the lake, remember that many people who came west, when they found the Salt Lake, thought that since it was salty and so large that they'd found an ocean, that they'd crossed the entire american continent.
      But none of that matters anyway because we see from Wind Waker to Phantom Hourglass to Spirit tracks that in less than 100 years (since Niko and Alfonzo are still alive in the flesh, the same ones who saw WW link as evidenced by Niko's remark at the start of Spirit Tracks that you look just like WW Link) there were people who found a new area to live. People have historically named areas after places in their previous habitations so it wouldn't be too far out of the question for a place to be called Lon Lon Ranch, or the Lost Woods. They wouldn't even have to be the exact same place. Even if people say "such and such thing happened here" doesn't mean it necessarily happened THERE. When we're talking about things that happened literal millenia in the past then history starts getting confusing especially in a world without modern advances in historical study that disprove previously held beliefs of certain areas. To them a place that was called the Lost Woods for longer than can be remembered could easily be mistake for THE Lost Woods.
      TLDR it is possible over a very long stretch of time, which is implied between most games individually, as seen by the fact that often times the previous game's events are already only legend by the next one, let alone between wind waker and botw.

      specifically Breath of the Wild is at least 10,000 years in the future from any of the last games since that's when the last recorded record of Ganon was from. This could be more if this is an occurrence without a game right now.

      Breath of the Wild takes place so many thousands of years after every other game in the timeline that it could totally be possible. A minimum of 10,100 years have passed for Pete’s sake! Because remember, the Guardians were first used “10,000 years ago” in an event we’ve never seen that must’ve happened AFTER other games in the timeline, and another 100 years pass between the return of Calamity Ganon and the end of BotW.
      So yeah, it could happen, they could’ve rebuilt Hyrule to spec in that amount of time.

      1. There's a side quest in WW in which you help the Koroks with trees they are growing, in hopes to rejoin the islands into a new landmass. If after the course of 10,000 odd years they succeeded (and the inhabitants of New Hyrule migrated), it could be very similar to BOTW.
      2. Thinking about King Rhoam's statement about the past events fading into legend, what if the events of TWW are exaggerated or even mostly made up, and when you play TWW you're merely playing out the events of a Fairy Tale or Legend from BOTW's past?
      I'm sure there are other solutions, but those were the two that came to me.

    I think you did a really great job on this video! I think it's fairly obvious that Nintendo had no inclination of a timeline when they first started making the series. By the time they got to OoT, it feels like they were maybe starting to think of the series in terms of storylines, lore, and connections between the games. Their initial timeline release was clearly something they tried to throw together to appease the fans thirst for a timeline, and every post MM game seems to have had the timeline in consideration. I understand why some people might fault the Three-Split timeline, but I actually think they did a really great job in creating a consistent lore and the fact that OoT deals with time travel, a split timeline makes a lot of sense. The downfall timeline is a little clumsy, since it's just all of the pre-OoT games thrown there, but I would say that at least they're all quite similar to one another, and they make sense to be in the same grouping.
    The concur with the idea of Breath of the Wild being at the end of every timeline (thereby negating the use of the timeline) is what they were going for. I think the timeline they have works! I really do, but I can see that they want to bring it back together and start something fresh, with _every_ game behind them, not just a certain few. I think this shows in the fact that they have references to just about every timeline in some fashion or another. Plus, it would explain why they chose such the extraordinary length of 10,000 years between the initial calamity and the events of BotW. They're trying to make the game so far down the line that the timelines have had time to settle, for the rip in time caused by OoT to finally heal, and for the discrepancies to matter less. I think it's a way to harbor in a new age of Zelda, while simultaneously keeping connected to all previous titles.

    Hey there, I have recently started following your channel and love your content. There is one thing I do want to bring up that you say a lot that seems odd to me, and that is that it would be impossible for there to be a convergence of 3 timelines into 1. There is one major reason I see this as being a likely possibility that I don't see mentioned really at all.
    Breath of the wild and it formula as a game decided to a more open world idea in large part to the popularity of games like it, a large influence (not just for botw but a lot of recent games) being games like es5 Skyrim. With a time line issue and an open world environment with multiple outcomes (based on how complete you want to finish the game) I see the adaption of something like a convergence and what Elder scrolls lore hunters know as "dragon breaks". Now of course, the zelda franchise will call it something else but if you look into how the idea of dragon breaks work in the elder scrolls universe, you will see a lot of parallels to how the story is being created for botw.

    Instead of starting fresh with a new timeline with BotW at the "beginning," I would rather see Nintendo fill in the gaps. There is so much lore in the games that tell of past events, but are only given a couple lines of text, and thats it. I really really really really want direct prequel to OoT that fleshes out the full story of the Hyrulean Civil War and how Ganondorf came to power. The Link in this game would literally the father of the Hero of Time.

      @hiimchrisj 5 лет назад +5

      The problem with that is you're asking that they build games for the sake of filling in the story as opposed to building a game that's worthwhile on its own. That's the very definition of pandering you're not going to make a good game out of that.

      There are so many rumors of Zelda movies und series, why not fill those storys with something like that? A Legend of Zelda expanded universe with books, movies, series, comics or spin-off games. Everything would be possible, deepen the lore of Hyrule and would please an enormous amount of fans, if done correctly.

      Julian Hartmann The mentality of "pleasing the fans" is such a bad mentality and is the very reason the timeline is a mess in the first place. Look, we take what we get. If you don't like what you get, don't play it. It's rather simple. I'm not saying we're not allowed to expect the best quality from Nintendo, and it's definitely okay for some things to be requested, since that's how you form a community. But forcing the creators to completely eliminate the very concept of what the games were intended to be just because a section of the fandom can't stand the idea of not having a linear chronology is such pussy behavior and douchebaggery. There's a big difference between the former and the latter.

    Y'know, I'm not really a fan of the fallen timeline. Not just because it has all the old ones, but also because it's the only one that's HYPOTHETICAL. The Child and Adult timelines are a direct outcome of Ocarina of Time, since we SAW that Link did indeed defeat Ganon, and we see where the two timelines are born (the scene where Zelda sends Link to the past, while she remains there, in her timeline). The only time we see the Fallen Hero timeline is if we, the player, fail, and proceed to give up. That, however, is a choice beyond the fourth wall and should not affect the outcome of the games.
    So, yeah. Adult and Child make total sense to me, while I wish the Fallen Hero didn't exist. Still love the inevitability theory, though. :)

    • @gerg905

    • @sunmarie9070
      @sunmarie9070 5 лет назад +1

      @@gerg905 Right, but that's on the PLAYER side of things. Think of it this way; if Ocarina of Time was not a video game but, instead, a book (or movie), and you just look at what ACTUALLY HAPPENS, the fallen timeline does not exist. Link never once falls and dies in battle. If we look at OoT like a movie, where we are the audience simply observing the story unfold, then the fallen timeline does not exist. It is not written anywhere that Link dies. There is no scene or dialogue about the death of the hero. But what we DO see is the WRITTEN SCENE where the other two timelines are born, when Zelda gives Link the Ocarina at the end of the game and sends him back to his own time. Does that make sense? I don't really know a good way to explain it...
      btw, I'm not trying to shout at you, I just haven't found a way to use italics on mobile in order to EMPHASIZE something, so I'm just putting them in caps lol ^^;;

      Alright I see what youre talki g about going over your reply again, but I still disagree on different fronts. Fallen timeline isnt like DETERMINATION in Undertale. Fallen timeline is literally any time Link dies. You could say that this means since the story never "ends" that the timeline never extists but thats the nice thing about video games is that they tell stories in a differeny way than other mediums. At the same time though if we look at... Alright if I have to put a spoiler alert this ling after it came out then you're being unreasonable haha. But in Avengers Infinity War it is clearly stated that there are almost always only going to be failiures no matter their choices. Its pretty much a given though that we're only going to see the one timeline that DOES succeed. And this is where the limitations of games comes in where story-telling is sacrificed in lieu of gameplay. If you had to watch a death cutscene for 10 minutes showing everything that happens after your death that would just be bad game design. Death shouldnt feel like a punishment but progress and having a long cutscene means punishing your players for not being good. It also means sunk cost into something unpleasant and it takes up more of the N64s limited space.
      TLDR of course we cant see the direct results. These games are from Link's perspective and itd be unreasonable to expect thag from really any game designer let alone with hardware limitations.

    • @enforcerridley158

      We know from the prologue of A Link to the Past that there was once a King of Thieves known as Ganondorf, that he accessed the Sacred Realm, obtained the full Triforce, became Ganon, and was sealed within the Sacred Realm by the Seven Sages (mistranslated as seven "wisemen") after a long war called the Imprisoning War. The Seven Sages, Rauru, Saria, Darunia, Ruto, Nabooru, Zelda, and one other, were unable to find a new hero to wield the Master Sword against Ganon, so they had to settle with the aid of the Knights of Hyrule and the King of Hyrule in their battle to seal Ganon.
      And that's the back history of ALttP, which came out before OoT. And OoT was developed in mind of ALttP's Imprisoning War, only that the Hero was victorious instead of the Sages having to find a new hero.

    10:10 actually there's a possible way to solve this: dimensional/timeline travel. One proof from another franchise that you can have more than 1 past at the same time is in the Flashpoint animation. At the end of the story, Flash tells Batman that he remembers everything from both timelines that he was present (the one before the Flashpoint and the flashpoint universe). If, in some way, a dimensional/timeline travel happens where characters from 2 timelines enters the other one (and because of the curse at some point the 3 versios of the characters would "merge" - i.e. transfer their consciousness to the body of their version from that timeline), then the timelines would technically merge and the spirit of the hero and the reincarnation of evil would still have memories from all 3 timelines.
    Actually, thinking of having multiple Links, Zeldas and Ganondorfs at the same time, this would be a really cool idea for a game, where you play with various iterations of the main trio

  • @carlosjuliop
    @carlosjuliop 5 лет назад

    My personal headcanon is that the split happened in OoT because of the confrontation between the 3 separate pieces of the Triforce specific to that game, and so it couldn't happen in other games where those conditions aren't met. To me, what makes each timeline "real" is that only one "Triforce-bearer" is left standing in it, remembering the events that transpired.
    In the fallen timeline, only ganon survives the fight, even though he's finally sealed by the sages, but with the complete Triforce in his power. In the child one, only link remembers what (actually never) happened, after being sent back to the past. In the future one, only Zelda remains, since Ganon is floating in the timeless void of the secret realm and Link was sent back to what is now, basically, another universe --the connection at the Temple of Time severed.
    There is some mental gymnastics to do to iron out all the details, but it kinda works for me. If planned like that from the beginning, I believe there could have been a huge final confrontation between the Triforce pieces at the end of OoT, where a huge explosion of light send, simultaneously, each Triforce bearer to their own timeline, where only they could recall the events of the fight. It would have been an even more bittersweet ending.

The fans may not like the creators choice, that doesn't mean they get to disagree. What Nintendo declares is canon, and if it doesn't agree with your theory, then your theory is false regardless of how much you like it or how much "evidence" you think there is. I agree with the inevitability idea. The fallen line shows Ganon was favored over Ganondorf as the form for the power of the form, or even that his Gerudu form was sacrificed for the power of the beast form. Each timeline does experience beast form but in the child and adult timelines he can obtain his Gerudu form again because his beast form was defeated so another sacrifice has to be made to obtain the form in a sense. Each timelines demise reincarnation has the willingness to make that sacrifice but all must be pushed and each line may have a different event to bring out calamity ganon some may technically happen earlier than others as well but it seems that this is the seal of the Demise curse regardless of timeline.

Spectacle Rock, The Temple of Time, The Great Plateau (OoT Hyrule Castle/Castle Town), The Great Bridge of Hylia, Hylia Island, The Arbiter's Grounds, and even Hyrule Castle Town. Everything from OoT and TP makes sense, even the appearance of the Majora's Mask could probably be explained somehow (it's not as powerful as it used to be), but Spectacle Rock is from TLoZ for the NES which is in the "Fallen Timeline", it shouldn't even exist unless the land of hyrule hasn't changed much through the different timelines, but the adventure has. Maybe Spectacle Rock existed in Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time, but you only ever visited it in the "Fallen Timeline", meaning the only time you ever actually saw it was when you had to enter it.

    The way I like to rationalize the Fallen timeline is this:
    The Fallen timeline was the original sequence of events. Link fell in Ocarina against Ganon, sparking the chain of events afterwards. After Zelda II, something happens. Someone or something goes back in time to rewrite history, to fix the decrepit world.
    That fix allows Link to win his fight in Ocarina, causing the following split.
    At the end of each timeline, some magic happens to converge them back into one, which is why you have a mixture of elements in Breath. The story goes from there.

  • @rahn45

    I think it's very possible to unify the timelines without it being BotW being an inevitable unavoidable outcome. The solution is that when the Triforce split in Ocarina of Time it also split the timeline into three parts as well, and that the timelines would follow the will of Ganon, Link, and Zelda respectively: Those being where Ganon wins, Link returns to past, and where Zelda gets to stay with Link.
    Now despite there being three timelines the power of the Triforce would still flow throughout each of the three separated pieces. So that despite whatever timeline Ganon is defeated his will residing in the Triforce of Power will always see him revived in the Courage and Wisdom timelines, and vice versa for Link and Zelda.
    With this concept in mind they could get VERY creative with a Zelda Timeline Reunification game. Basically the Light/Dark world concept but on steroids, in where you'd have three different versions of Hyrule slowly collapsing into a single reality; that the Triforce would truly be complete again, but would disappear and be lost to the Sacred realm again.

  • @ajg9842

    I think the point of the immense epoc being explicitly utilized for the first time--10k years--and the explicit references to things passing into myth and legend are all that is required to ignore the timeline issues all together: if things may pass into mere myth or legend, but somehow--by curse, or otherwise--themes, *technology*, names, etc. remain consistent, then it can easily be foreseeable that although there are temporally bound groups of games--ocarina and majora and the 2 following; wind waker and the 2 after in its timeline; etc.--that these bound units are interchangeable. I agree with you that that was the intended outcome: to reboot and relaunch with a node so distant from the others that neither sequels nor prequels present problems, which in and of itself suggests a cognitive device that fans may deploy to smooth out the inconsistencies in the games published before this one. As you yourself noted--the fallen timeline might be in ANY of the others, or any events truly forgotten to memory, where Gannon defeats the Link and Zelda bound fatefully to him.

    my theory is that the fallen timeline isnt just a branch off or a "what if" scenario. its not just a alternate reality where a different outcome happens. its actually caused by the paradox of the child/adult timeline, since link the CT never used the mastersword to beat ganon, causing a paradox in the AT (and yes, events close in connection with a timetravel event can effect eachother, see the triforce of courage in ocarina and how link has it at the end as a child still). essentially, since link never finished his quest to get all 3 spiritual stones after being sent back (becuase he was sent back to BEFORE he met zelda), adult link technically cannot use the mastersword to defeat ganon, but at the same time he has to be able to in order to get back as a child to the child timeline... this causes a paradox, which splits the adult timeline into two, one where link wins and saves hyrule, and one where he fails due to him not actually being worthy of the mastersword in the end. since he is not worthy, the mastersword is essentially innefective (in my headcanon its actually when he looses the mastersword in the final battle that causes him to loose).

    My theory as to the other “game over” timelines and why we have no games in them is that they all result in a very similar 4th timeline: Ganon ruling seemingly perpetually. A game over in ocarina of time is different because from the others because it’s ganondorf’s first rodeo-once link releases them, the sages still have power to muster, and secret allies to rally that Ganon isn’t ready for-even if link fails after doing so. But afterwards, he has been much more careful in his schemes, putting all the pieces in place to crush any and all resistance without Link’s special elusiveness long beforehand-if the hero fails, at that point ganon wins for good. Importantly, the sages do not seem to be reincarnated the same way the Trio are, and if the knowledge they have is lost forever with them, who but the hero and the princess can stand in his way?
