    Little do people realize. Squall's coat was a big flex on people who claimed they couldn't make a fur coat look good in 3D. In fact, other than the scar. Squall's coat is more iconic than his sword.

      @@javierortiz82 From what I have read. Of course, take this however you want. Even after reading this and you still hate it. Fine. Whatever. Your opinion.
      Squall's gunblade does not fire a bullet. Rather it uses a special custom round that causes the blade to vibrate and able to cut through the densest of objects. The explodes you witness with some moves are not created by the discharge of the round. Rather the air being rapidly super charged and exploding.
      And if you claim that makes no fucking sense. You need to remember: This is a freaking Final Fantasy game. You got a lady that can learn Monster Moves or a guy that can somehow summon Godlike beings to bitch slap some poor bastard in front of you. It makes sense in context of that universe.

    It took me so many years to realize Laguna was actually Squal dad and that basically his love story was reincarnation of Laguna's impossible love with Rinoa's mother.

    • @ALeaud
      @ALeaud Год назад +2

      Yeah, that was exactly it. The entire game has failed love stories and missed connections (Laguna + Julia, Seifer + Rinoa, Squall + Quistis) but Squall + Rinoa is the only one that works out hence the happy ending. Rinoa and Squall are brought together because of Laguna's failure to get with Julia. Even though their parents couldn't meet (and Laguna's love story is quite tragic with the death of Raine), they ended up meeting.

    Something really cool you missed is the outdoor big screen at the top of the stairs in timber when the party is going to the radio station. It has a lot of noise and interference, but with a close look messages can be seen:
    I AM ALIVE HERE
    BRING ME BACK THERE
    I WILL NEVER LET YOU FORGET ABOUT ME
    I WILL NEVER LET YOU BOUND ME BACK
    Those are actually messages from Adel coming from space, wich is in fact the very reason for the worldwide radio interference phenomenon.

    The first time the main characters have a dream about the past is on the way to Galbadia-occupied Timber to help the Owls, the anti-Galbadia resistance faction which Rinoa belongs to at the start of the game. In the dream, Laguna is one of the Galbadian soldiers taking part in the Siege of Timber. Laguna bails from his post to go to Deling City and see Julia Heartilly, the piano player-turned-singer who wrote "Eyes on Me". Laguna and Julia fall for each other, but Laguna is ordered to return to his post. After Laguna barely escaped an ambush by Esthar soldiers and went MIA, Julia figured he died in battle and went on to marry (Galbadian) General Caraway, aka Rinoa's father. Laguna winds up in Winhill, meets Raine, and marries her. When Raine's daughter Ellone is kidnapped by Esthar soldiers, Laguna leaves town - unaware that Raine is pregnant - and tries to get into the hedgehog state of Esthar by every means necessary. This led Laguna to start doing work for Timber Maniacs, the revolutionary anti-Galbadia magazine that inspired the Timber Owls (and later Rinoa) who his son Squall ultimately ends up assisting. Laguna basically played a pivotal role in the cause of, and the solution to, all of Timber's problems.

    It's also interesting to note that the way Squall and Seifer got their scars while being in the same fight and the same type of weapon have different meanings. Seifer strikes downwards from a position of power after having used magic to I imagine cheat, considering that squall had 2 summons but didn't even have them with him, as evidenced by them being in his terminal at the beginning of the game after having been rushed straight to the infirmary and so couldn't use magic this would be seen as unsportlike for a practice duel.
    Seifer's cut was cruel and unnecessary born out of a need to dominate. Squall's cut on the other hand comes from below, cutting upwards is against the force of gravity especially from the ground so you have to put more strength into it than a downward chop, possibly already there showing that Squall is more powerful of a swordsman and at the same time has a good old protagonist attitude of always getting back up to continue the fight. also you could say that Seifer is going down like he does in the game, falling from grace to become the brainwashed lacky of the big bad while squall rises to glory as the leader of seed.

    You can get Lion Heart before the end of disc 1 by playing enough cards. 10 Elnoyle = something = 10 Pulse Ammo, Grendels from hugging the left wall in the forest where you have your second dream-state(looking toward Galbadia garden) will drop dragon skins (so will Anacondors), Minotaur card = 10 Adamantine. Also no mention of the ridiculous features of the SeeD field exam (each time you talk to someone unnecessarily you lose points, each fight you run from that you don't have to, you lose points, if you let the dog die, you lose points, if you jump using Selphie's shortcut, etc.). You mention how to game Angel Wings, but not how to game Angelo by only teaching him moves you want him to use. I.e. if you only train Angelo to use Wishing Star, he'll have a much higher chance of using it since the pool to draw from will only be Wishing Star and Angelo Cannon. Lastly one that constantly gets overlooked somehow is how you can hit the circle button to "skip" a character's turn, which re-rolls for their limit break to activate. Leave everyone at about 2500/9999 hp, and you'll have constant limit breaks. Teach Angelo ONLY Invincible Moon (and reverse and search since they're on the timer trigger), and you'll usually have an entirely invincible party that can use their limit breaks at will.
    FF8 is my favorite Final Fantasy, but it definitely had the easiest battle system to abuse, and one of the few where you can truly make a "perfect" party by using Devour. It would take hundreds of hours to max every stat for every character with Devour, but it is possible.

      If you play the cards right you can get all but one final weapon before the end of Disc 1. I think you can't get Ervine's final weapon (Exeter) because there's no way to legitimately obtaining Star Fragments before Disc 2.

    • @canalultimateattack3169
      @canalultimateattack3169 2 года назад +3

      The dog doesn't die in the Dollet escape, he just gets very scared. It's not dragon skins you need to make Lion Heart, it's dragon fang (obtained from said grendels). Skipping battles in the exam overall punishes you because mercenaries are supposed to fight (and also to impose battling in a game that punishes levelling up), that's why fleeing and jumping the cliff causes punitions. Angelo starts with Angelo Rush and Angelo Cannon, and even if you only learn it, Wishing Star is pretty rare to happen.

      For the early disc 1 obtaining of Lionheart, its recommended you start after the Seed graduation party just before Rinoa hires you in Timber.
      First off, challenge The Trepe Groupie #2 student in the cafeteria for triple triad for his Quistis Card.
      Then look around the main hall of Balamb Garden for the blue shirt kid jogging around and beat his ass for his MiniMog card. Then head for Balamb itself and challenge Ma Dincht for her Zell card.
      At this point you should have also Ifiit and Diablos card.
      Head back to Balamb Garden and challenge Cid for his Seifer card and keeping milking for the Elnoyle cards that he uses sometimes.
      You need 20 of these to convert them for 2 energy crystals using card mod. Then convert these crystals into 12 pulse ammo using Ifrit's Ammo-RF ability.
      Then head for the cafeteria

    Anagram of Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec actually means "Succesion of Witches & Love"
    Succession of witches refers to the sorceresses. Sorceresses inherit their power through succession from another sorceress.
    Succession of love refers to Laguna & Julia and Squall & Rinoa. Laguna and Julia couldn't be together because of fate. They had children from other partners. But fate brought their children together. So the love succeeded anyways.

    I believe Rinoa is Ultimecia theory. When on the Ragnarok in space, Rinoa gives a speech about wanting time to stand still and fear about being hated for being a sorceress. Ulitmecia's goal is to compress time, but it's never confirmed why she wants time to compress, though assumed by the party that she is the only being who can exist in a time compressed world.
    Ultimecia also is able to use GFs and her only GF is Squalls ring, an item Rinoa went out if her way to obtain early in the game.
    Also, when Ultimecia is about to be defeated in battle in her final form, she gives out pretty heartfelt dialogue.
    I believe that Squall passes away before Rinoa, and out of grief, she seeks to compress the past, present, and future.

    Rinoa/Ultimecia - There are many more things to that theory, the reversal of her preferences are part of that, but "becoming drunk with power" is NOT the reason. The original theory was about Rinoa suffering (likely cause everybody she knew died) and ultimately trying to bring back the time when she was happy with her friends. To do so she toiught about bringing back the past and for that she needed a lot of power, the power of the strongest GFs, but as the game has told us the usage of GFs leads to memory loss.... so in a tragic twist she forgets her trauma, she forgets her friends, she forgets what made her even want to bring back time. There are things like the last words of Ultimecia sounding like she knows Squall and wants to help him, the flashback at the end of the game were Rinoa can not remember Squalls face, the premotion that Squall has of Rinoa dying, or little things like the game mentioning that Ellione can ONLY send people back in time that she has met in person - she never met Rinoa. Or how Ultimecia gave her power to Edea.... in the past....

      However the seal became weak allowing her to mentally posses Edea... though Edea's body was still aging. Ultimicia needed a physical body to inhabit which is why she beckoned Rinoah into space through Edea with a complete mind fuck.

      Maybe it is just me but I feel like the Lunar Cry and the GFs role in memory loss were two huge story points that were included but ultimately had zero impact on the story.
      Although the Lunar Cry happened, shortly after you immediately go to Lunatic Pandora which then leads to compressed time. The Lunar Cry seems to have almost no larger observable impact on the story.
      Furthermore, there was an entire scene talking about GFs and their impact on memory. However, despite the risk all of the characters decide to continue to use GFs because they need to accomplish their goal. But, ultimately, there was no observable consequence of the players continued use of GFs. Which, in my opinion, made that scene almost meaningless.

Don't have to say you must keep them till you fight omega.

      @@grimreapress8578 Besides the fact that it would just makes so much sense and I would not be surprise if they actually made It "true" in a possible remaster, haven't you asked yourself why a person is acting that way?
      Clearly Artemisia is missing something as a main antagonist of the game. She Is between two of the best antagonist in the FF Series, Kuja and Sephiroth: They have their own meanings and reasons clearly described in the progression of the story.
      Artemisia is clearly missing something, not to justify, but to explain her behaviour; She was clearly meant to be so much more, some sort of tragic-love related antagonist, seeking for someone. Just looking at her few dialogues and her relationship with Seifer, while also being pointed as a Witch and abomination from the whole society so the theme of Loneliness, Social Rejection and the consecutive Madness of Nihilism.
      She was after all a human, like Adele, Edea and Rinoa. Clearly power corrupt but what She was before?
      Adele Is clearly the example of "Evil Witch" yet S-He Is clearly "sane" and greedy for Domination, seeking for Power so we have a reasons why She is acting like that.
      Edea on the other hand is the "Good Witch" and states that She needed a Knight (Cid) along her side to keep her humanity intact: i think Square missed a big opportunity to actually enhanced and underline the psycology valor of some characters and the "Knight-Witch" theme, not to mention the Hyne Legend that i love.
      Also there is Time Travel in this game, and anyone knows how much complex a story can be with it. My guess is they didn't want to touch much the time-travel thing and the relative Multi-dimentional results for reasons to us unknown (maybe lack of time).
      I still think that when we play FF8, we are playing inside a secondary alternative reality. Remember that SEEDs were born for the "consecutive" purpouse of "killing" the Witch from the future.
      But what if SEEDs where never needed to exist, the previous reality that actually generate the character of Artemisia through her past self? The only name i can think Is Rinoa. Living under a toxic and suffocating father, without the presence of the mother, being a rebel, fighting for Freedom, No Train Mission with the SEEDs losing to the Galbadia president that still lurking around the continent and want Power and conquering Esthar. Of course a big plot is missing from this point onwards, and that would had been Square duty.
      I love this game since i was 5 and this theory grow with my mind without even knowing many people were talking about it.
      It was so natural to me asking myself, "Who was this person? Why is She like this?".
      I mean c'mon. Really? We are talking about Squaresoft.
      The One of the Big twist of FF7 (Zack) or the Deep moments of Life and Death in FF9 (Not Alone + Kuja Redemption etc). I think that FF8 was meant to be at the same level of these two and the Key to that was "Rinoa is Artemisia" yet they probably got overtaken by the difficulty of "Playing with Time Travel" and by time itself.
      For example and Don't get me wrong, i love Junction you can't even Imagine, but i understand people that can't stand It: They clearly hadn't time to polish the Gameplay (core of any game).

    I was thinking, i like the draw concept, but i think this should go both ways. If magic raises stats and if magic is used, stats go down, enemies should also weaken once their magic is being drawn by the party, or when enemies use magics too.
    It could be expanded in ff8 remake, where draw systems becomes a crucial part of gameplay. Like you can lessen speed of cactuar by drawing magic junctioned to its speed stat. Some enemies have resistance to draw, while some enemies will exploit its weakness if their magics are drawn.
    This also applies to players. Like bombs can wipe your entire resistance to fire making their kamikaze a one hit kill, so you need to have some resistance to being drawn. Like shell prevents draw by half.

It is explained by Ultimecia during the final battle and has nothing to do with Rinoa or what you name it.

    I always thought the "Squall is Dead" theory was absurd, and I can see why the developers have invalidated it.
    [Deep breath] According to the theory, the missile launch, Squall's wound healing without a trace, Balamb and Galbadia Garden becoming mobile, time compression, and Ultimecia's levitating castle in Disk 2 and beyond are fantastical; *and yet* the giant mutant caterpillars, living t-rexes, giant flying alien monster at the communication tower, transdimensional magic lamp, Edea teleporting, ghost at the Tomb of the Unknown King, Iguion statues coming to life, Card Mod ability, and ability to cast magic and summon GFs from thin air in Disk 1 are reality? It just does not add up at all. Heck, there are Phoenix Downs and Life magic that revive party members, even in Disk 1, so it wouldn't make sense for Squall to be truly killed off, even if the ice spear did kill him.
    Besides, the game is the developers' property. They've written the game's story themselves, not us players, so they can say anything about the plot and it can be true.

    The theory about Rinoa becoming Ultimecia is evidently true but Square doesn't want to confirm it as they don't want to spill the beans. It suggests the fact that sorceress never aged like an ordinary human so maybe Rinoa witnessed Squall died in the future and turn him into a GF called the Griever from Squall's ring. Since she has knowledge about Ellone bringing the consciousness of someone into the past, so she want's Ellone's power to reunite with Squall once again in past but end up killing her.

    Rinoa's resemblance to Ultimecia doesn't mean anything. Square (and a number of other Japanese video game devs) like making characters faces with perfect doll-like features, especially for FMVs back in the day. Point in case, if you give Squall's hairstyle and hair color to Zell or Seifer they'll look like his twin in the cutscenes.

Rinoa and Ultimecia have subtle differences however. By anime terms Rinoa would be a tareme and Ultimecia a tsurime due to the shape of the eyes.

I forget what the item was called, but it basically allowed you to do your limit break whenever you used it. I remember going to the island of heaven and hell and stealing or either getting this particular enemy to drop something that allowed you to make these items. I spent so many hours trying to get as much as I could to max out my inventory. Was totally worth it. There was so much you could do in that game. Played right, and nothing could stand against you. Besides Ultima and Omega weapon. I beat Ultima, didn't even try omega😂😂. I was so OP by the end though. I remember being so disappointed with the final boss fight because I beat her so easily. • @jaiba3074
    @jaiba3074 2 года назад +1

    Amazing video, there is a couple of things that are missing, tho.
    The first is that there were a theory that this game and FF3 are in the same universe, as 1) the maps are similar and 2) when you meet the White SeeDs they tell you about the God of FF8, I can't recall the name, but such name appears in FF3 too.
    And the other one is the true origin of Ultimecia, taken from the official FF8 Japanese strategy guide, there is a section that mentions about why Ultimecia wants to "compress the time" (or destroy the world). It reveals that Ultimecia was hated by everyone since she is a witch, and because everyone knew she wanted to destroy the world (because she actually tried it, in the past, which is the present time where Squall lives). Ultimecia, knowing that somehow she will be killed by someone from "SeeD", decides that she will try to escape her destity, by changing (compressing) the time. At the end, by trying to escape her destiny, she was the one who made it happen. Quite sad.
    A hint of this can be seen in the game, when you realize that everything Edea says are actually Ultimecia's words. Edea's speech at the end of disc 1 has a different meaning once you know that those words are actually Ultimecia's.
    Imagine reading in the story books that you will travel to the past and try to kill everyone. Such thing hasn't happened yet, tho, because you haven't done that, yet, but there are records about it, because in the future, you find a way to travel to the past. That's a very good concept for a time travel plot, rarely seen.

  • @HitoSarg
    @HitoSarg Год назад +6

    While you did address it in your follow up video, I'd recommend looking up name pronunciations when producing any type of media like this. Since it's a Japanese game, you can find the Japanese name, stick it in a translator, and figure out the correct English pronunciation fairly quickly.
    Example: Ultimecia is アルティミシア (Arutimishia) in Japanese which you still pronounced incorrectly in the follow up video. It's written in katakana which means it's a foreign word to them (derived from the English word Ultimate). Pronounced like "Ulh + ti + me + c + ah" in English. Same with Rinoa (リノア, Rinoa) and Seifer (サイファー, Saifaa).

All the evidence that suggests it is so curious, such as the link between Griever and the scene where she wishes time could stand still for her and Squall.
