  • Her latest novel "Lilith's daughters" was translated into ten languages. Writer Sarah Blau calls herself an israeli jewish feminist. Born to an orthodox family, she lives in Tel Aviv and is shocked from the Hamas attack of October 7. She contributed to our anthology "We don't forget, we go dancing / Israeli and german authors write about the other country" that I edited with Amichai Shalev (S. Fischer Verlag / Afik Books) in 2015. Now I have met Sarah Blau for a background interview on her thoughts and feelings when I came to Israel for a tv reportage for ZDF aspekte. Where is the solidarity of the women organizations with the victims of the attack?

What exactly did Germany do to help the Jewish people?

When I was in Israel in November 23 for TV, people asked where I was from. Everybody said to me: Germany! Your government are the first and only one who really condemned the Hamas terror. Your president was here and showed his support. Your ambassador speaks hebrew and addressed the israeli people with his regrets. And the waiters and waitresses in TLV restaurants went like: Oh, Berlin, can't wait to go back there (although my grandfather is not so happy about it).
