- Vice President of the Nethercutt Collection, Cameron Richards, stops by the garage and once again brings with him one this 1930 Rolls Royce Phantom, a car so important, that in its heyday it was paid more to rent than the salaries of the movie stars who shared this Phantom's screen.

ABOUT JAY LENO'S GARAGE
A new video every Monday! Visit Jay Leno's Garage, the Emmy-winning series where Jay Leno gives car reviews, motorcycle reviews, compares cars, and shares his passion and expertise on anything that rolls, explodes, and makes noise. Classic cars, restomods, super cars like the McLaren P1, sports cars like Porsche 918 Spyder and Camaro Z28, cafe racers, vintage cars, and much, much more.
Always a pleasure to stop by your garage Jay!
Beautiful car, does your website have a list of all the cars in the museum ?
Great to have you share your treasures with us!
Thank you for showing the cars off, looking forward to seeing more in the future
The pleasure is also ours! Thank you for what you do 🙏
class act all round
Thanks for sharing the history of this car.
Let's all keep Mavis Leno in our hearts and prayers.
Yes. Lovely lady. Brought the plight of Muslim women to the Western World.
@@jamesdellaneve9005I didn't know about that. But I'm sure going to look at that after the video. I had a feeling that she's a class act!
@@kfrerix9777 She made the world aware of the Taliban’s treatment of women. Beheadings, limbs cutoff, stonings, etc. Unbelievable cruelty.
Indeed. And please Jay, take care of yourself as well. Looking a bit drawn which is no surprise, make sure there's time to look after your own health.
JD ............after 911 the experts sought her out .@@jamesdellaneve9005
I went to the nethercutt museum once for a birthday. Had everything I could ever dream of seeing in person
I also had the pleasure to visit there and I just could not leave, lol. There was so much stunning beauty in every direction and restored to a level rarely seen collectively like that, it was just hard to walk away from such dramatic visual appeal. But what catches you by surprise is how this interesting deep appreciation sneaks up on you. If you e been there, you know exactly what I mean. People start out chatting up this and that, then slowly get quite from realizing how obvious it is that there is no way to miss the dramatic effect. It’s simply everywhere you look. Awesome place. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
@@Far2hip it truly was incredible. I was there from about 30 mins after it opened to the time it closed 😅
@@rangerregia, I was the same way. I actually changed my plans I had for later in the day because I KNEW I wasn’t gonna want to leave the place. It’s sorta shocking, isn’t it?? Yeah, you’re expecting to see some amazing cars, but when you realize your looking at literally fine works of art, it changes the whole context of the visit, that’s for sure, lol. 😎
@@Far2hip you said it man 👌😎
Even manbearpig!!?
It's incredible that the museum let this jewel run on the streets. Thanks for that.
When it comes to many of these museum show cars, the miles they are driven by Jay on this show is probably the only miles that it will ever get put on them from that point forward, which is sad but i understand
I guess it's good for the car to go out for a spin from time to time-just to keep it from "seizing up" [use it or lose if for certain parts of a the car ?].
You know it's going to be a good episode when Cameron shows up with a real, honest to goodness classic. So humble, pleasant, and knowledgeable.
not so humble, but very pleasant.
That thing is obscene, but in a good way. Jay looks small next to it.
Dear Jay, may i ask for another „pandemic edition“ once in a while? Just you, one of your vehicles and a blue jumpsuit… thats all it needed. Those episodes where the essence of your work - just pure.
This right here 👆!! Would be lovely
LMAO you think Jay wastes his time reading this BS>??!>?🤡

The Nethercutt Collection cars are becoming such a highlight. So much history and such wonderful cars.
This kid is doing so a good job representing his family and these beautiful cars of historic era.
Cameron does an excellent job of representing the Nethercutt Museum, plus there seems to be a very pleasant dynamic between he and Jay.
The RR, as with each vehicle which Cameron shares with Jay, is absolutely stunning.
Wow...that restoration is absolutely unreal...the engine compartment alone is mind blowing!
I love it when Cameron brings a car over. It's like watching a couple of guys playing "Dueling Banjos", except instead of instruments, they play using car knowledge!😂 And, it's pretty clear that Jay loves this beautiful car. Thanks for bringing this elegant beast to the Garage, Cameron, and thanks and kudos to Jay and Crew. Excellent episode!✌️❤🙂🇨🇦
94 years old, and still driveable. What more could you ask for in a Rolls-Royce?
Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay? 😅
@@AB0BA_69 I don't care for either.
@@ColtonRMagby What a Luddite thing to say!
@@AB0BA_69 I’d never be off the road if I had a car like that
@@AB0BA_69 I'd rather listen to railroad frequencies than mess with connecting my phone to the car radio with anything other than Bluetooth.
The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot was designed by Charles Sykes and Eleanor Thornton was the lady he was as his model. She was the secretary of John Montagu. She died in 1915 when the ship she was travelling in was torpedoed by a German U-Boat.
P&O Liner S.S. Persia, sank by Kriegsmarine Captain Max Valentiner in U-38, Montagu survived, Thornton didn’t.
This is the hood ornament that was supposed to be the origination of the saying "Nellie in her nightie", a common phrase at the time.
Man, the Nethercutt car museum is truly astonishing! I love visiting it. I may have seen that Rolls about 6 times but only on display.
I feel so fortunate that Jay and Cameron and the Northcutt museum share these gorgeous and priceless cars with everyone this way. Thanks for another GREAT video 👍
Jay's willingness to display these rolling pieces of art is really appreciated. His background knowledge is phenomenal.
I expect we'll see less of these segments as Jay focuses on Mavis.
And well he should..Family is Everything!
What a beautiful machine, just pure art
OTR is my occupation and I always have something entertaining going all day long. A week ago, RUclips dished a Jay's Garage video, I watched it and have been hooked ever since. I'm still binge-watching. Love it! Love your knowledge, passion, and sincere desire for preserving the car, people, and era.
Really enjoy seeing the Nethercutt collection actually on the road with real world commentary! Thanks Jay and Cameron!
I am grateful to everyone who loved and appreciated this car through the years so we can all enjoy it. Thanks, Jay.
Wow… What a beauty…
Dear Jay,
I love the cars that you find, all unique jewels… And I love the way you present them… So calm and warm…
Thanks Jay Leno's Garage and Nethercutt's for another great video. Please don't stop.
Please keep these cars coming. Thanks again Cameron for letting us see this magnificent automobile! I would love to see your museum if it's still there after all the flooding in California.❤
My Dad owned S184PM, a 1928 Brewster Riviera Town Car. Love the Brewster coach work.
It's hard to see Leno get old and sad news about his wifes condition, I remember Lenos first year on The Tonight Show, I was in 8th Grade and was just then able to stay up that late on Fridays.
Keep up the shows, haven't missed an episode in over 10 years.
Always great to see Cameron visit with another bit of automotive Royalty.
So cool of Cameron to bring these Gems to JLG! THANK YOU Cameron!
so happy to see the nethercutt museum on the channel, I used to live 5 minutes from it, brings back a lot of memories :)
I'm hoping to get down to visit my kid down in LA in next month or two. Got any advice if I can break off for a half day when I'm there? I really want to see it!
Traffic is pretty heavy in that area due to a few merging freeways after 2 or 3pm and onwards. I’d recommend arriving early of course.
I remember that car...My father was friend's with a man whom did restoration-work on it, having my father give him a hand on occasion...Great to see it looking so lovely!...
Jay, the Nethercutt Collection has excellent classic cars--please keep bringing them.
Breathtaking - to see this barreling down the road in real life an AMAZING lifetime experience.
Barreling at 40mph……..
Another absolute JEWEL from the most fascinating collection in the automotive world - THANKS FOR SHARING :) ! Have a GREAT week !! Take care and God bless !!!
I love these majestic cars. They are historical, artistic & functional. I'm glad she is good hands.
Thankyou Jay for still working and bringing us these great shows.
At your age most don'[t get off the couch.
You rock dude.
it's an inspiration to work harder.
i saw the nethercutt museum a year ago. A MUST SEE, and a Must is the museum across the street. musical instruments and history. a MUST SEE. i'm a mechanic...i left trying to stop the tears. you will be overwhelmed with the restoration and mechanics of everything. will bring a true mechanic to tears. just not on cars. such a great place.
These cars are the absolute essence of your show, love it 🤌
Thanks for the episode! Cameron is awesome with presenting and he seems very knowledgeable! Can’t get enough of these lol
Visiting the Nethercutt Collection is on my bucket list!!
I got to see the Nethercutt a few months back. I spent 4 hours reading the signs on each car. What a collection.
I LOVE how it has tandem windshields with the front roadster window and than the traditional hard top is so cool!!!
Lived out there for almost a year, was too busy on two wheels to even think of looking up these museums, wish I had now.
Jay Leno, what a wise guy. Would think a man like he know name on cars, but he is just into details. Talking about gears, engines and setup on cars like he know everything on each car he owns and has seen in his lifetime. He is just a legend.
Jay! Glad to see you enjoying the car scene as well as bringing the experience to us poor folks! When I see this I always think you are so lucky to drive some of these cars that NOBODY ever drives!
It's always a treat whenever Cameron shows up! I would have liked to have seen the Duesenberg radio!
Such a gorgeous car. One of the most beautiful I have ever seen.
Jay, your knowledge of all things car is amazing. I love watching all your episodes. You get to drive so many of the most unbelievable cars on the planet...
That’s just gorgeous.
The lines on that car are so incredible.
Just visited for the first time Saturday. Such a great museum.
The Nethercutt is fantastic, I've been there multiple times and I love to take out-of-towners there. It's great that they share some of their cars with Jay's viewers. Their musical instrument collection is also fantastic and the instruments' curator is very passionate about them.
The "power brakes" you mention are derived from two brake servo patents; one designed by Hispano-Suiza and the other by Renault.
It is a marvellous system and is a pre-cursor to anti-lock brakes. When correctly set up, the brakes are extremely powerful.
The RR gearbox driven brake servo was used from 1923 until the late 1960s. Not without its issues though! In 1923, an experimental Silver Ghost fitted with the new brake servo system smashed the glass out of its Lucas headlamps at the end of Nightingale Road in Derby - needless to say Rowbotham and Hives, two key figures in RR history, were far from impressed at this ordeal!
Eventually, the servo was engineered to work beautifully, albeit a complex and over-fussy design. They also have a tendency to fail when oil from the gearbox impregnates the clutch linings of the servo itself.
For more information, please drop us an email.
Awesome car from the past. Thanks for driving it around town so we can hear and see it in the real world just not the museum.
I agree great looking Rolls Royce! That wicker on the sides is unbelievable. Beautiful restoration of that 1936 Pre-War Luxury. Thanks for sharing!
💯👍👊
Jay is the only famous person I would ever actually like to meet! Dude is a walking car encyclopedia! And just seems so laid back..
Always good to see you well Jay! My thoughts are with you and your family. ❤
Jay's videos of these rare cars moving are such an amazing record.
Absolutely love the episodes with Cameron...
Jay knows his rolls royce history. He loves these cars so obviously.
What a beautiful car, love the beautiful curves of the body, and the perfect deep black paint. You can see the craftsmanship everywhere on this car. also, what a perfect restoration, this car is spotless, and runs beautifully. Thanks for the video.
What a wonderful car! I bet it is truly amazing in person. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Watching this one again.............such beautiful car's from the Nethercutt collection..............you can easily see that Jay likes Cameron.............despite the age difference...............definitely another beautiful piece of history
Oh wow! That in my opinion is one of the best looking cars ever made, can't wait! 👏
I feel like royalty just looking at this car intro photo.
This was the first car I remember seeing at The Nethercutt. Front and center in their fine collection. What amazed was their 'Crem de la Crem" collection next door in their 'toured' building. I highly recommend getting a reservation for that when you come to see the main collection. It's FREE as well, you just need to sign up for the tour in advance. Absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommended. Mr, Nethercutt had fine taste.
I live about 30 minutes from the Nethercutt Museum and have been there more times I can count, it's amazing experience a must see if you get the opportunity! Mr. Leno Thank you.
Walking into Jay's garage is like walking into a time machine! All these old cars in one place!
I am absolutely amazed by how pristine this almost century-old beauty is!
I love these Nethercutt cars, they are amazing. The quality of restoration is incredible and absolutely flawless, it must be a pebble beach 100 point car. 👏👏👍👍
Thanks Cameron and Jay!
Cameron, good to "hear" you bring a respectable amount of information on this one.
Looking forward to hearing more from you. Good job.
Undeniably rolling art..............just a stunning car
A Jay Leno Video day is always a good day! 👌
This was fun to watch Jay. The informative dialog keeps me totally engaged.
Man, those raked driver compartment windows are COOL... Not as sinister as most old Rolls-Royces. What a crazy car, just the epitome of opulence at that time. I'm surprised it's a six, I would've expected a straight eight when they upgraded to OHV. Man, that is a PRETTY engine. I'm just as impressed with the caning and the beautiful door handles as Jay is. Amazing the difference in car quality and what that means with labor costs so different from what they were. Now we have mass-production down to an incredibly precise science, but the result isn't anywhere near as dramatic or beautiful. Wow.
I didn't realize how big this car is until they sat in it! Beautiful
Great episode Jay! The older the car the better... love the history!
Allen Swift died in 2005 at the impressive age of 102, but his automotive story is even more remarkable. Not only is the gentleman credited with owning a Rolls-Royce automobile longer than anyone else in the world, but he had the forethought and funds to ensure its future preservation after his death.Dec 27, 2012
What a stunning automobile!
Iam reminded of the movie Gold Finger. Beautiful car for those times.
I sure appreciate you sharing these with us!
The Nethercutt Museum is awesome! So great!
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you and your work and your hobby and have for a very long time. Damn that's a run-on sentence.
What an incredible vehicle! Thanks for sharing a few details! Love to come visit this museum!!❤❤🎉
Beautiful, just beautiful.
I've also been to the Nethercutt on Jay's recommendation. It's very much well worth the visit! I'm glad Jay's pestering Cameron to pull these out of the museum for some exercise. ;)
Absolute amazing piece of automotive history after the next thanks to Jay and the Nethercutt Museum. I love these videos, thank you!
I'm always happy to see another Nethercutt car. Will definitely have to get there in person one day. In the meantime, the new website is nice.
Wonderful car with probably the most elegant engine compartment ever designed.
I appreciate these cars back in 1930s. Beautiful cars needless to say. It makes me wonder how these companies survived during the great depression and still build a car and it made a name of itself many years later due to its beauty and engineering of its day. Love it !
Boy Jay looks good( and that haircut looks even better)
I want one!
Lovely car, reminds so much of the infamous Yellow Rolls Royce.
Used to be done on the Radford mini's from the 60's.
The first one was bought by the late Peter Sellers, he bought it for his gf at the time Britt Ekland..
The guy that used to paint the wicker effect on the cars needed to get drunk to paint a straight line.
The spirit of Ectasy was Lord Beaulieu's secretary and supposed mistress.
Thank you very much for showing this amazing piece of art to us.
I am very impressed with the condition. Unbelieveable.
Cameron: "This is one of our garage queens..."
Jay: "Not today! Let's take it for a drive!"
😁 Love ya Jay!
That RR is the best looking car in jays garage while this video is been made, it’s absolutely beautiful
Beautifully presented and driven as always! The BEST! These RR cars were all bespoke bodied (especially the Phantoms) and no 2 identical globally. As you know, RR was known for their "magic carpet" quiet ride and "adequate" power reserve: hence the history of RR naming all their cars after slient powers (Ghost, Phantom, Wraith, Cloud, Shadow, Spirit, Seraph, Spectre)--with only Carmargue and Corniche being named otherwise. Added historical note: Charles Sykes (called the hyphen in Rolls-Royce) was the sculptor who did the "flying lady"/Spirit of Exctasy and supposedly the model used for the mascot was his lover...;) Loved every minute of it Jay and company!
I love love that cane work that is so cool. Reminds me of those little beach cruisers. Bring back cane detail on cars!
I love that caning. Absolute flex, needs to make a comeback.
God bless Leno..
The museum is definitely worth a visit!
cold grey day here in Iowa, good to see someone out for a drive in the open air, I watch the old movies and see these car where the poor driver is out in the weather
