the new umbrella design is easy to hold the umbrella if you add some 1.5mm x 4mm orings in the rod after you insert the umbrella. I use it like that. BTW that beard is looking epic!

I'm so glad you did this video, I ordered three of these and they arrived last night. I had both *positive and negative* impressions of it, almost enough to make a video of my own. It would have been easy to make a slot for it toward the top of the unit in the back so it doesn't get lost. (put it directly behind the screw mechanism when not in use.
from product shots of the S2 I've seen online, I think the removable piece consists of two parts, the upper part being flat for regular speedlights, the lower part being rounded for e.g. V1 speedlights and with that lower part your V1 should be centred…
@@ThierryMinet - That would be nice, but it you look at 4:32 in the video the round head is not centered. I noticed this when I tried mine and it was reaffirmed at 4:32 in the video. Again, it's really not that big of a deal that it's not centered, just an observation definitely not a deal breaker.

Another great video from Rob. I got the S2. And what a life saver. A few words of caution though. You better keep that black insert in the pocket when removed. If lost, I don’t think there’s any chance of getting replacement. Second and more annoying. The round head has to be fitted into just the lid of the head. If pushed too far forward, the tightening grip will not secure it in place and the Roundhead will fall off (whether it’s the V1 or the Roundhead on AD200). Just worth saying.
Well explained and demonstrated Rob many thanks. Good to see Godox continually improving their products l'm impressed. This is the Swiss Army Knife of brackets.
@@robhallphoto Yes, but what NsearchOFSunrise is trying to say is, if you look at the the part you removed at 4:23 closely, it is actually comprised of two pieces that come apart. If you take them apart and only use the curved portion of the shim in the slot provided, the round portion of the shim will contact the round head of the strobe but it will be centered in the the bracket. The way you showed it (removing the whole two piece shim) the strobe round head is forced into the lower part of the bracket making it off center in the bracket.
I could be mistaken but I believe the diameter of the central opening of the new S2 bracket is smaller than it is on the original version. This could prove a bit of a problem with the AD200 when used with the bare bulb head (or older AD180/AD360 flash units) as the accessory locking knob makes it difficult to center the bulb in the current S-Type bracket. I actually bought additional bare bulb adapters for my AD200s (at $10 each from Adorama's used department) and removed the accessory locking knobs from them to allow a better fit in the S-Type brackets. Yes, the knob problem can be avoided by inserting the flash from the front but then the bulb might extend too far into the attached modifier (interference with a beauty dish deflector plate, for example). EDIT: FWIW, now confirmed, an unmodified AD200 bare bulb head (or AD180/AD360) will not fit in the new S2 bracket.
Hay Robert. Great presentation and I am really glad I came across this, not realising the S-Mount would not hold the V1. I am a big fan of your videos and you present them well and clear. So, keep up the great work. George, (UK)
OK so I have the S2 and it's fine EXCEPT I can't get the umbrella shaft thru the slot. There is something in there probably meant for tension but just can't do it. Is there a trick?
Hi ya, Robert: Thanks for this (old by now) review of the S2 bracket. I'ma gonna rant for a minute: Godox has this BAD HABIT of having their tigtening levers rotate in the WRONG DIRECTION. Now, yes they do tighten by rotating clockwise. But with the tightening lever on the side they mounted it on, the weight of a heavy modifier will LOOSEN the clamping effect. They should have put the tightening lever on the other side of the bracket so that the weight of a heavy modifier will actually self tighten. They did this with their VL series of LED lights (maybe on their other lights, too). To fix this, you have to rotate the VL lights in their brackets 180-degrees (flip them upside down). Not a deal breaker, but it does mean the fan is facing DOWN instead of up, and since I think it is an exhaust fan, then hot air would be blowing DOWNWARD, instead of upward. Not a great design.
I have been waiting for this product since the release of the round head flash....this is incredible news. Thanks for the video and when I circle back around to buy gear in early 2020, I'll use your link.
I love this bracket, it is a huge improvement over the old bracket. I have bought two of them now but there is one thing that really annoys me about the new bracket. When the bracket snaps in place on the Bowens mount on any of my modifiers, there is a full 3/8" play in the bracket mount between the bracket and the modifier mount. Why? I tested this with many different brands of modifiers but they all had the original Bowens mount that came with the modifier. To me this is a design fault. I fixed mine by cutting some felt pads to take up the 3/8" gap in the three attachment slots. I used some stick-in-place felt furniture bumpers for this. The kind like you would use to keep furniture legs from scratching hardwood floors. The modifiers are much more secure now with this modification. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? I thought maybe a got a defective bracket but the second one I purchased three months later was the same way.
I bought the S2 bracket about 18 months ago in part because of Rob's video. And yes, my bracket has the same play in them when I put a modifier on it. I like the bracket for all the reasons Rob mentioned, but the amount of play on my softboxes really annoyed me. Initially, I thought I was mounting it incorrectly or that my bracket was somehow defective. This fix had not occurred to me. I will give it a try. Thanks for the tip.
Hey Robert, I did the group buy you offered for the AD200PRO & V1 setup. I still have 4 Flashpoint RL600B's and I can't justify buying more monolights. Even though I'm dying to upgrade. I posted a link to Adorama's flash sale I just saw for the AD400 PRO for only $419, hope you don't mind.
I rushed to Adorama to check this out. Google still has the price listed as $419 but when I go to the page it says full price. :( I was actually about to pull the trigger too.
Robert Hall Photography yes, but that pad, on mine at least, is two pieces. That flat section comes off so you can slide a rounded section back in with a rubber surface. Mine is a knock off, perhaps the one is not the same.
It's not just the design of this (or any bracket)..... it's a physical limitation of the size of the opening of a bowens mount. There will never be a bowens mount bracket that fits two normal sized speedlights.
It doesn't work that well with the AD400, no matter how hard I secure it (belive me, last time I even used a wrench to twist the knob as hardest as I could), still, after a couple of hours, the weight of the softbox (not even a big one) was enough to make the bracket slide out. It actually broke the bulb :(
It looks like the AD400 bulb sits further back relative to the bowens mount when compared to the adapter that's included. I'm curious if that changes the power output or light characteristics in a softbox... My current run and gun pack has two TT600's. Removing the handle and mount from the AD400 would allow it to fit in their place. This might be an option if the power isn't significantly reduced.
Hi Rob, this looks a huge improvement. You did 2 years ago, so predates AD100/300s. It obviously also works with AD100 (same front as V1) but what about the AD300? I imagine it would but would welcome confirmation that's the case, by anyone who has tried and knows. That said I'm liking the idea of using Godox mount (smaller fitting) modifiers for AD300. Thanks.
How does it manage an ad200 with the thin flashpoint silicone cover? And also with the new protective version of the cover, I do get annoyed having to take my slim cover on and off for the original bracket.
Rob, I think it's cool this works as a pseudo softbox bracket for flashes like the AD400. However, much of it is made of plastic. I checked but can't find the maximum rated for weight spec. Some of us use heavy paras and large octas with grids, etc. Can you ask godox what the max rated weight spec is?
Thank u for yr always up to date video. But it would be great if u would show if flat head speedlights with maggrip can be inserted while s2 attached with a softbox from behind.
While I agree that centered is obviously preferred, The V1 is probably the last light source that needs to be centered, considering it's such an even light pattern without a dominant hot spot. much more important for the speedlights and ad400 pro to be centered.
You can center it. If you look at the part Robert removed at 4:23 closely, it is actually comprised of two pieces that come apart. If you take them apart and only use the curved portion of the shim in the slot provided, the round portion of the shim will contact the round head of the strobe but it will be centered in the the bracket. The way robert showed it (removing the whole two piece shim) the strobe round head is forced into the lower part of the bracket making it off center in the bracket.
My interest was piqued when you brought out the AD400 but not sure how you can pair down the transportation size of the unit without sacrificing protection of the bulb because the end cap still has to push on somehow.
This might be a stupid question but the S2 bracket in this video is made by Glow. I've seen other S2's with no logos, which I assume are made by Godox. Is the Glow version made specifically for Glow softboxes? Or are all the S2 brackets the same?
Hey Rob, i find hard to fit the EC200 satellite head in the S2 bracket, with the bulb head, due to head shortness; you have to screw it with part of the cable under it, and the fit isn't really snug, also head itself is often not pointing straight, but tend to face upward or downward. Do you have suggestions/solutions? Tnx!
Silly question but hoping someone can help.....how do you separate the two layers??? I can take out the two bottom layers from the bracket but cannot figure out how to separate them so I can put in my V1!! Don't want to break it. Please help!
Most of these posts are a bit dated so not sure if you are still following the thread. I recently got an ad400 and the s2 adapter. The problem that I have run into that when installed on the front of the ad400 the actual flash ring now sits inside the s2 adapter rather than projecting out into the modifier. So far I am finding that makes the modifier considerably less effective and the resulting light much harsher. Any suggestions on how to overcome this limitation. Also with the S2 and ad400 you have be really careful with the bigger modifiers as it is not a super secure grip, and it is possible for a s2 to slip off the end of the ad400. Very frustrating.
Love this video Robert. Question: Can I use this bracket to use with my AD200 Pro w/ bare bulb to fit into my Westcott 26 inch Rapid Box (Speedlite edition)?// trying to MacGyver something lol lol

Hello Robert, Is there any changes in design of S2 that allow to attach it to C-Stand (directly or with baby pin). Problem with old S-Type is it cannot be attached to (for example) Adorama Flashpoint C-Stand. Socket of S-Type not deep enough to accept that 5/8" pin.
One of the issues I had with the older bracket was using ad200 with the bare bulb, the tightening screw on the side wouldn’t allow that configuration to fit properly, has that been corrected?

Hi @Robhall wanted ask can this s2 bracket can enter godox AD s85 softbox used for ad400 ? Can that enter in s2 bracket please advice.. lots of appreciate. Loves from Malaysia ❤️ ❤️
Hello and thanks for the Video. I think about it also for other studio flash (other brands), could you tell us the Diameter of the circle? Maximum diameter of a flash that could fit? Thanks a lot.
I just purchased an Ad400 pro and also have the S2 bracket. I feel like when using this setup that the bulb sits too far back in the mount thus wasting flash power. Can you elaborate your thoughts on this? I am considering returning as I found so far the Ad200s seem more powerful when used in the S2 bracket. Does the placement of the bulb being further back take away efficiency of the Ad400? Seems very weird they would advertise it working with the AD400 but with flaws.
I have a Godox Softbox that uses the umbrella mount. With the S2 version, I can't figure out how to secure it in place since the screw to hold it in place is now gone. Anyone find a work around?
I bought a Godox AD S85W Softbox because of people's reviews. I saw a couple of videos on RUclips that can be adapted to S-Type Bracket. Is it possible to use thar softbot with to my adapter or with the new S2?
The old one worked with 200s 360s and speedlights. It’s awesome and it’s cheap. Those new round speed lights have no purpose. They literally have no purpose. Little easier to Gel if that’s important to you.
Due to strong winds. S2 adapter swings left or right when softbox is hit by the wind. Even when the screw is tightened. Even with the weights. What do you recommend as remedy?

Very frustrating.
trying to get my mind around the godox system. I have AD200, but I might look to get a AD300: will the AD300 fit this?
Love this video Robert. Question: Can I use this bracket to use with my AD200 Pro w/ bare bulb to fit into my Westcott 26 inch Rapid Box (Speedlite edition)?// trying to MacGyver something lol lol
No I think you'd have to just switch the rapid box to Bowens unfortunately.
How do you mount this thing on a Glow EZ beauty dish. Mine is loose, no way to tighten it. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Great review as usual. Although watching this I just realized Adorama sent me the old version in the group by. I thought we were getting the new version with the group buy? I’m Loving the ad200pro
There was a brief window where they accidentally had the original S bracket sku'd into package 1. You can return them for the S2 if you'd like!
Robert Hall Photography thanks I definitely would like to since I’m planning on getting the ad400. Do I just call or email customer service?
@@paulaquipel7472 yup just contact them with your order #
nice
Would have been great if you can put 2 860ii. Make an adapter to be place at the back that can handle 2 v860
There's already the bracket for the original that allows you to put 4 speedlights in if you'd like.
Robert Hall Photography was looking for the magmod kinda thing
@@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck It's not just the design of this (or any bracket)..... it's a physical limitation of the size of the opening of a bowens mount.
There will never be a bowens mount bracket that fits two normal sized speedlights.
Im wondering how you can fit 2 v860's there is there any way to fit them in? Thanks!
Thanks for this very informative video. I have the answer for mounting 2 regular speedlites in vertical... We cannot do it. So what's the best method to fix 2 Canon 600EX for exemple on a tripod with bowen mount ? Thanks !
Hello Robert,
Is there any changes in design of S2 that allow to attach it to C-Stand (directly or with baby pin).
Not to state the obvious but the flash will go into the old bracket battery end first.
Damn...I just bought 3 of the original Flash Bracket....
uh oh! Hopefully you still get a chance to return!
works great but there is a annoying play in the speedring when mounting beautydish this is my first bowens mount dont know if its normal comming from elincrome. the mounting wholes are too sleep, fixed it with putting in rubber erasors in the bracket gap. anyone else with this problem maby the older versions where tighter?
Is shall we hold AD600 by using S2 bracket?
First 🤓
Thank You for sharing
I'm wonderinf if this bowen s2 mount can hold also ad200 pro??
Thank you for your video. I have a question, what is the difference between godox s2 bracket and glow s2 bracket?
Do these Bowens flash brackets generally have a 1/4 inch thread that would be compatible with a regular tripod?
No. Any mount for a light stand will have a baby pin receiver. You could get a female 1/4" 20 to baby pin adapter to connect this to a 1/4" 20.
I just ordered one as my new Godox V1 doesn't fit in the old Godox Bracket
It does!
I have a Godox Softbox that uses the umbrella mount. With the S2 version, I can't figure out how to secure it in place since the screw to hold it in place is now gone. Anyone find a work around?
You did not show it fitting the old AD200 that is slightly larger than the speedlight. No longer a tight fit?
Not a tight fit at all. The extra space designed for the V1 makes it go in seamlessly. It's tight but still fits even with the new silicone covers.
please make a video of double tt350 vs one ad200
I've made multiple power comparisons, including ones with both products. Multiply the TT350 by 2, and you have the answer.
I bought a Godox AD S85W Softbox because of people's reviews. I saw a couple of videos on RUclips that can be adapted to S-Type Bracket. Is it possible to use thar softbot with to my adapter or with the new S2?
outside of DIY adapting that is 3d printed, no.
Nice!
Q: Is there an adapter that can fit two v860ii’s side-by-side?
The old one worked with 200s 360s and speedlights. It’s awesome and it’s cheap. Those new round speed lights have no purpose. They literally have no purpose. Little easier to Gel if that’s important to you.
Ur outta Ur damn mind
Can it be handheld with an AD200Pro and a softbox attached together?
Learn the hard way that this is not fit 2 v860 eventho with the bottom pad removed 😢😑
Does this improve the upon the inefficiency of the original s type bracket when using godox ad200 with the bare bulb attachment?
My country doesn't exist for Adorama.
Will ezglow 150mm mount work with the S2?
Ok but how can I modify my old softbox to work on this
change your softbox speedring to bowens mount.
Due to strong winds. S2 adapter swings left or right when softbox is hit by the wind. Even when the screw is tightened. Even with the weights. What do you recommend as remedy?
a stand with a flat side on the pin.
@@robhallphoto Product link? So that I can see sample
Does anyone know the interior diameter of the S2, without the insert in place?
