Not only was she super-intelligent, too intelligent for her own good, but that woman was one of the most gorgeous movie stars of that era. Absolutely breathtaking beauty.

I first heard about Frances when the movie with Jessica Lange came out. Up until then she had largely been forgotten. Such a beautiful woman. Her parents were real pieces of work. Sad they didn't try to understand her, that might have made a difference. She might have benefitted from a good private psychiatrist instead of being thrown into those hellhole mental institutions. At least she did some fulfilling things later in life when the dust settled. Enjoyed seeing the giant paintball. Safe travels. RIP Frances 💓🌄🕊️🌈💐

That was beautifully and respectfully done Jordan. I have felt sympathy and admiration for this poor lady ever since I first read Hollywood Babylon many many years ago. Like you, I hope her final years had some peace. There's an episode of the old television show "This Is Your Life" featuring Frances and it is painful to watch. When the host starts talking about her years in the asylum, you can clearly see that Frances is troubled and maybe embarrassed and it seems very inappropriate and sad. Anyway, wonderful vlog.

That episode of th is is your life was filled with inappropriate questions and she was treated very poorly by their host. Made me so angry and sad for Frances

Hollywood Babylon was a very fabricated account of Hollywood unfortunately.🫤
Great pictures from that book that got me started with the history dark side of Hollywood.

@@katmolina2627 Yes I know, but it was the book that first familiarized me with her and others. I still like the book, even if about 90% of it is fabricated.

Such a sad story about Frances. I remember watching her on Frances Farmer Presents and I believe I actually saw her at the Ayres Tea Room in Indianapolis. I was quite young then but she was an Indianapolis icon. Her home on College Avenue is about five minutes from where I currently live.

Really good video, excellent presentation, very informative, really cold editing.
Francis was a very attractive woman. Mental health hospitals in those days would have been hell. Looking at cases its hard to tell if the person did have a mental health issue or she was a "difficult" woman because she stood her ground. She sounds like her parents used her as their cash cow. "This is your life", is really hard to watch, they were horrible to her for entertainment which is disgraceful.
    RIP Francis.

Jordan, I was all ready to write a very sharply worded critique of this video - and then you said what needed to be said. And that is that much of Frances story is embellished. Yes, she had a nervous breakdown, yes, she was hospitalized. But was she REALLY lobotomized and gang raped? I first heard of Frances Farmer when I read "Hollywood Babylon" back in the 1970s as a teenager, then I learned they were making a movie with Jessica Lange - and my first thought was what a perfect choice to play Farmer. Lange looked MUCH like her. When I saw the movie, it was depressing - and very devastating. Mainly because I had thought the movie WAS in fact accurate as far as the hell she endured. Only years later did I learn a lot of what we thought happened never occurred. Right now, the best and quickest way to get that info is a podcast called "You Must Remember This" in which an episode was on Frances Farmer - and it's excellent. But just the same, you did a great job - very respectful and I feel very sincere and non-exploitative. Look, much of it was embellished, but that doesn't diminish what she DID endure - and the was not pretty. When you see her in one of her movies you see how she lit up the screen - she really had talent. But did she ever pay a price for it.

Congratulations on painting the Ball of Paint! That was so cool! As for Frances Farmer, it is terrible that her mother treated her the way she did, I believe that started her problems in life. She was a beautiful lady with so much pain inside. Back in her days, mental health was not treated well (at all). I am glad she had met her friends in Indianapolis. Thank you for sharing what really happened to her. RIP Frances Farmer.

She was in the old Western State Hospital in Sedro Wooley, WA. My Mother was in there for awhile in the 1960's. Not anything near what Frances was there for. My mother had nightmares about that place for years. She said it was brutal and should be shut down. Over the years it was. It would not surprise me if Frances did have a lobotomy while she was there. The abandoned building still stands and has always been rumored to be haunted. People have claimed to hear screaming and such. I have driven past it many times, but would never go in that place!

Great vlog about Frances Farmer. Sad to hear about what kind of torture she went through. I remember growing up living next door to a sanitarium, reading about all the terrible things that went on in there. Sometimes those people would escape to our front yard. And there's an old video from the 1940s of that sanitarium which makes it look like a vacation getaway. It's now the Venice Police station on Culver blvd. here in L. A. Interesting about the world's largest ball of paint, I never heard of that before. Cool to see that you are now a part of that history. I Always love to see little Jah ❤❤❤

The Ball of Paint was great fun and your tribute to Frances Farmer was beautiful. 15:00 - Her abortion at her husbands behest - I never heard of this - at least it wasn't spotlighted in "Frances". I loved the acting and the dialogue in that movie, what I didn't like was that it was fictionalized with this fictitious character who was crushing on her starting from age 16 and never quite getting together with her, but popping up sporadically, forcing her husband to toss everything all over the housed, call her a whore and stomp out. It was stupid to make up scenarios about a real person, but it was well-written and devastatingly acted.

Hi Jordan and Jah. I read a book about, or by, I can't remember, Frances Farmer. She did have a sad and mostly miserable life, BTW: the "real" Crossroads of America is in Vandalia, where US Rts. 25 and 40 intersect; there's even a sign to that effect. But who knows, there's probably one in every state. Stay safe my friend. PS, I think I like these vlogs more than the Hollywood ones, these are just so fascinating, the biggest paint ball for example. PSS, have you ever thought about going to Cahokia? I would love to go there, but maybe it's something you wouldn't be interested in. Take care
