Hagen,Hagen, Hagen!! My heart skipped a beat when you made that cut down the length of the grip with your thigh right underneath. If you slip and hit the right/wrong place on your leg, you've got about two minutes left, and you'll leave a big mess behind, brother!
Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
Hagen, I have been wrapping rods with paracord for years and do it just like you do with the exception that I put down a layer of epoxy first. Never had one come loose and I do put a few drops of glue up against the reel seat. Great video.
Hello and blessings, thanks for sharing. You blessed me and my sons. I followed your instructions and my rod handle came out just how I wanted. I appreciate your time. May God bless you and all your family and friends.
Did you feel a difference in overall weight of the rod , like did it feel butt heavy? Also how did it feel in hand, was it comfortable to hold long term? I plan on doing this to a Swimbait rod.
I just did a couple of my tuna sticks and they are sweet. My buddies now want it done. I did find that silicone based water proofing spray works really well to keep tye water and muck out.
I enjoyed your video. I did a similar wrap to a B n M Silver Cat spinning rod with the exception that I super glued the ends to the last wrap and rod handle but I believe your method of drawing a portion of the covering sheath back through several wraps is superior and will undoubtedly last longer. I cautiously used a heat gun around the ends which fused the nylon wrap post super glue. I like your system better. Thanks for sharing.
Epic video. I am going to go down into the vault and see if there are any rods I would consider paracord wrapping the handles. Thanks for the tutorial!
Looks nice and good work. I’ll give you a hint. There is a better way to finish your wrap and won’t need to pull thru with string. Not sure what the term is but it’s same as wrapping a bow serving. You wrap over your tag end then pull tight and don’t have to pull thru your end wraps.
Nice job brother I'm going to have to do this to a cork handle that getting a little ruff. I will let you know how it turned out. Keep doing what you do.
I have a customer requesting Para cord as his grips on his rod Thanks for the tips & how too I was unsure of how to start & finish it or to glue the whole lot. Good point on becoming smelly & being able to change it if necessary Cheers Stevo Australia
Looks good. You should get little jar of contact glue and brush a little on rod as you wrap to help hold cord in place. If you old did it on the ends it would help a lot.
nice i did all my rods that way after watching your video only thing i did different was to put a light coat of varnish over the para cord but wow my rods look good
Great idea. I’m going to use x-wrap heat shrink tube over it anyway.. but I wonder if the clear flex seal would work! That way it doesn’t get nasty from bait, but still being able to keep the look of the paracord, and possibly extend the life of it.
Hey man that's a good job good idea you could probably finish that up with some clear gel coat or something to seal it that way you would have problems with things soaking into your handle just a thought good fishing buddy you keep producing them we'll keep watching them
Been doing this for the last 20 years. Works great. I was waiting for that paracord to melt all over your pants and watch you jump up and knock everything over. ;)
I have done several rods like this if you seal them with a clear urethane the blood and stink can’t get in the thread it takes a good bit you need to soak it in good and the cord won’t fade either
Doesn’t really matter just a clear urethane I’ve used oil based and water based I do like the water based because of the easy cleanup. The trick is to saturate the cord completely. I use a rod drier to rotate the rod and build a drip pan out of aluminum foil to catch the mess soak it with a brush and come back later. You got to get it soaked in the first time because you can’t do multiple coats
Mild detergent, toothbrush(not the one your currently using) soak the handle in warm water with detergent, scrub with toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, let dry. Blood and smell gone. Sound good?
Love it, gonna do a couple of my ol rods.love all your videos, you've always got ideas outside the box like me too, I love "tinkerin" with fishing stuff and always thinking. Good fishing to you and your son, I'm from Cincinnati and the two pools up here the meldahl and the Markland, are not what they used to be 40 years ago because of all of the commercial netting. Now I have to travel to get into some really good catfishing maybe I'll see you down the way 🤗🇺🇸😎God Bless
Could you do this right over top of a thin cork covered handle? Great video. I just returned a rod I had only used 4 times because the cord had come off near the butt of the rod. I would have kept it and done this if I had known about it. Now that rod is unavailable and I can’t get another one. It was a 12 ft. surf rod. Other than the cork problem it was a great rod.
To counter the blood and smell , get you a can of Scotchgard Heavy Duty Water Shield ( the green and white can) will also keep the cord looking great. Tight Lines
I recommend using System Three clear coat epoxy on top of the cord. It'll take care of it soaking in liquids and smells. Plus, give it a smooth and glossy finish.
Bait guts and fish Scales would love to stick to that Ruth para cord . Japanese heat shrink is the way forward . Iv been in the rain and still had grip on the rod . Good stuff £4 meter on eBay
Solid tips dude. I like it. Being in the Army I have plenty of that cord laying around. Hope to fish with you one day man. The Army is moving me to Ft Knox next summer. I can't wait. Hopefully we can meet up and fish on!!
good way to keep the wrap from soaking stuff up is to coat it a mixture of equal parts elmers glue (PLA glue for outside US) and water. Let it dry for a day and you are golden
I know this comment is 4 years after this video, but : I use paracord to handle wrap walking/hiking sticks. Once you get your wrap complete, boil a pot of water and slowly pour/trickle the hot water over the wrap. That will shrink and tighten the paracord even more.
I've got an old rod that I'm going to do the paracord wrap to. I've just repaired the tip, and placed a new baitcaster on it. The baitcaster is on the rod, in my new video. You should come check it out, and possibly do a live show with me.
Writing from Barbados,I am a rock fisherman and I saw your video on paracord wrapping, I wrapped my rod and i love it ,thanks ,keep posting.
I like the way you start and end the wraps, great idea!
Hagen,Hagen, Hagen!! My heart skipped a beat when you made that cut down the length of the grip with your thigh right underneath. If you slip and hit the right/wrong place on your leg, you've got about two minutes left, and you'll leave a big mess behind, brother!
Same thing i was thinking...1 slip and a cut femoral artery 2-3 minutes and lights out
@@Whiskerdoo I thought the same, I use a pair of scissors ✂ for cutting the inner cords (ask me how I know)
Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. I just did a couple of my tuna sticks and they are sweet. My buddies now want it done. I did find that silicone based water proofing spray works really well to keep tye water and muck out.

Very cool wrap nicely done my friend
Just did that to my new Whisker Seeker rod with black and orange to match it, thanks for the video ! !
Another great video ! Good idea to gussy up a old fishing rod and keep it in the rotation 👍👍👍
Must say that this was an excellent video..Thanks for sharing, Sy...
Thank you
Very useful this video and very interesting method. I didn't know it. I can't wait to customize my rods. Good job.

Great video! I am looking forward to doing a set of carp rods with this method. Cheers!
Excellent video! I have great ideas thanks to this technique.
That looks awesome man great job 2

Damn, you did a nice job on that. . Thanks for sharing brother.
This is a brilliant video, nice work man
Thank you
Nice informative video. I have a few older rods I'm going to try that with. I've gotta repair them anyways, and it'll give them new life again.
Thanks for the info did as you said and the turned out great. Thanks again.
That turned out really great. 👍
Absolutely awesome idea works a treat looks so good i have done all my 6 rods thanks for posting top class video,Dell Boy
Great idea works a treat thanks for posting ALIEN
I don't care for cork, So I'm going to try this on my two cork rods. Thanks for sharing!
WOW !!! That looks great! This is another idea of yours that I am going to use on my stuff. LOL
Epic video. I am going to go down into the vault and see if there are any rods I would consider paracord wrapping the handles. Thanks for the tutorial!
Great Video - good looking finish !!
I’m definitely going to try this! Thank you for posting
I tried this with old rod that was one if my favorites at one time. Works great! Thank you.
Looks nice and good work.

You wrap over your tag end then pull tight and don’t have to pull thru your end wraps.
Did a couple of my pro angler tackle 10' rods. Turned out much better than I expected.
Just got done doing this and looks great 👌 thanks for the info. Tried to add pics but I can't figure out how lol. Tight lines brother.
Scotchgard works great. Spray 2 or 3 times and the shad scales and catfish slime wipe off with a wet rag. Cool video.
Nice job brother I'm going to have to do this to a cork handle that getting a little ruff. I will let you know how it turned out. Keep doing what you do.
Im gonna doing my rod like that.good job brother
Paracord ordered! Gonna give this a try on one of my old Shakespeare Sturdy Sticks once it comes in!
How did it turn out any pics
Love it. I have two BnM rods that came power cord wrapped but, I can use this idea to wrap my hiking stick. Great info. Thanks for sharing.
Great video man always informative !
Great idea and execution
Ended up re-wrapping two! Also you might see a jump in views as this is now being shared on a FB group after I finished up and posted the results
!
Thank you
I have a customer requesting Para cord as his grips on his rod
Thanks for the tips & how too
I was unsure of how to start & finish it or to glue the whole lot. Good point on becoming smelly & being able to change it if necessary

Australia
Awesome, I am going do that with some thinner paracord above the reel seat, where I want more grip!
This made my poles look nice thanks
Very smart of thinking to do that
Looks good. You should get little jar of contact glue and brush a little on rod as you wrap to help hold cord in place. If you old did it on the ends it would help a lot.
nice i did all my rods that way after watching your video only thing i did different was to put a light coat of varnish over the para cord but wow my rods look good
That's pretty slick
Great idea. I’m going to use x-wrap heat shrink tube over it anyway.. but I wonder if the clear flex seal would work! That way it doesn’t get nasty from bait, but still being able to keep the look of the paracord, and possibly extend the life of it.
Hey man that's a good job good idea you could probably finish that up with some clear gel coat or something to seal it that way you would have problems with things soaking into your handle just a thought good fishing buddy you keep producing them we'll keep watching them
Nice diy. Try spraying 3-5 coats of camp dry or scotch guard on your wraps. That will help prevent water and blood absorption.
This is awesome, im certainly gonna do this to mine.
Looks beautiful bro thank you !
Been doing this for the last 20 years. Works great. I was waiting for that paracord to melt all over your pants and watch you jump up and knock everything over. ;)
That would of added some humor - 😆
Sweet love what you did on the rode handle hay this is what I did on mine I used thine ca glue on the handles keeps them from getting mest up.
Looks good, I've got one I'm gonna try this on.
Great Video ,Very Informative
Heck yeah. Hagen's got it going on!!
It looks good I may try it to one this winter. Sometimes it is nice to have something to do when its cold and snowing outside.
I have done several rods like this if you seal them with a clear urethane the blood and stink can’t get in the thread it takes a good bit you need to soak it in good and the cord won’t fade either
What brand do you use and where can I get the clear urethane?
Doesn’t really matter just a clear urethane I’ve used oil based and water based I do like the water based because of the easy cleanup. The trick is to saturate the cord completely. Just started watching your videos keep up the good work ! subscribed 👍🏻
Thank you
Just discovered you & Landon's channel a couple of weeks ago - full of good advice - Bravo 👏

Freaking awsome! i got a couple rods that need this done.
Winter is coming, good way to pass the time while cleaning up your rods.
Great job looks awsome
Did the thing and turned out great
I can imagine seeing this on uk carp rods soon. Gunna try it on one of my rods

It looks lovely nice one. iv always wanted a rod like that naw a can thank u
Thank you

hell yeah grate job i may have to try this

Wonder if there's a way to weather proof it.... I love the concept!

Nice work👍🏻
Well done thank you for sharing
Solid tips dude. I like it. Being in the Army I have plenty of that cord laying around. Hope to fish with you one day man. The Army is moving me to Ft Knox next summer. I can't wait. Hopefully we can meet up and fish on!!
Sounds great man and thanks for your service. Stay in touch👍
@@hagengrubbsfishing will do man, for sure!!!!
Good stuff. I'm sure the paracord can be soaked and clean just like any other fabric material. Thx
Thank you
Would you think some waterproofing spray stuff would help with keeping it cleaner?
I like it ! Good job
Great video I would guess that spraying than with camp dry would protect the Paracord
good way to keep the wrap from soaking stuff up is to coat it a mixture of equal parts elmers glue (PLA glue for outside US) and water. Let it dry for a day and you are golden
beautyful wrap, like it
Great tip bro 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching
Smart idea thanks bud
Awesome!!! Might try this tomorrow
That's great I'm gonna try that thanks 😊 God bless
Thank you for watching👍
I am kinda late to the party but, in place of Paracord use nylon twist. Then put shrink tube over it. Lasts forever, and cutbait wipes off.
This way looks better imo and cheaper.. heat shrink of that size isn't the cheapest stuff
Nice video Try spraying a little clear coat on it
Man I’m just seeing this this is great
Spray good with some clear coat
I know this comment is 4 years after this video, but : I use paracord to handle wrap walking/hiking sticks. Once you get your wrap complete, boil a pot of water and slowly pour/trickle the hot water over the wrap. That will shrink and tighten the paracord even more.
I've got an old rod that I'm going to do the paracord wrap to. I've just repaired the tip, and placed a new baitcaster on it. The baitcaster is on the rod, in my new video. You should come check it out, and possibly do a live show with me.
