Boiling water works well to remove glued grips / nubs. Your pronunciation of G Loomis as Gloomis amused my wife way more than it should have. Trial & error is definitely a way to learn things.
I like the vid May try this Just sharpie that small piece of cork showing. Did you epoxy the end cap? I wouldn't rely on the shrink wrap to hold that on. Another tip... If you wanted the grip to be symmetrical you could measure out tick marks on the cork equally and make sure your rolled up hockey tape intersects each tick mark.
Nice job. I seen the same thing with rope. Try another piece of shrink wrap on the top part over it or cut shrink wrap out and do it again but put extra then cut it with a razor.
might want to use water proof shrink wrap (I get it at Harbor Freight). It has a heat activated adhesive on the inside. When heated the adhesive bonds creating a water tight seal.
what was the original diameter of the handle? i am thinking about doing this to a dobyns swb rod I have, but think I should get the 1.5" id shrink tubing anyways, this is sick man!
@@lukas_roseen did try some test on a dummy wooden stick, i did try both with electric wire and paracord, both great. with elecrtic wire you won’t see the cord texture.
good idea...you can get different size 'ridges' simply using different guage wire. Seems like good use of old scrap wire too...make friends with an electrician.
Hey brother, i design rods, easy DIY , i stripe the rod down, wipe it down with alc wipe ill use a round boot shoe lace, i dip it in wood glue, i wrap it shoe lace around the rod to my desire, ill let dry for 15 mins, ill then grab foam padcut a 1'2 inc width and wrap inbetween the laces, ill glue the bottom of the rod with a rubber buttplate sold at any hardware store ill shrinkwrap the rest... the results are amazing and extremely attractive..give 1000x life..i have cool night rods i designed aswell..
