I’m on my second month locd and also in the budding stage I’ve been natural for years and I feel like my hair was really waiting for me to loc it, It’s just a growing and I CANNOT express how happy I am about it I think mine is growing similar if not the same rate as yours 👏🏽 I LOVE THIS JOURNEY
Absolutely love it !! I keep watching it for inspiration to keep holding on to my journey. Just wanna know please 1. did you experinece much unraveling of the 2 strand twist ? 2.Also how often did you retwist the roots in the beginning? I work out a lot and have lots of new growth so I fear my roots won't loc as quickly 3. Lastly did you have any protective styles during the 1 year or you just let them be throughout ? I tend to think the styles might help with locking but fear they may affect the overall size of my locs, I want healthy thick locs
Yay! 1. Tons of unraveling in the beginning 😫 2. The first few months I retwisted every 2 weeks. But I wash twice a week so I kind of had to 😂 3. I didn’t do any protective styling
I started with interlocking. Interlocking is probably the number one loc method that makes the loc condense to its fullest way which isn’t really a good thing, especially if you wanted thicker locs. Not only does the part size matter or your genetics, interlocking can drastically condense your locs so much so that the other two ways of getting thick locs that I just mentioned, won’t matter. Yes, interlocking is the neatest way of keeping your locs as well as making it last much much MUCH longer but the price you have to pay for that is locs that are extremely condensed IF you are getting a “retwist” every single month. Especially if you didn’t start with thick parts. I have thick parts and 4c hair, palm rolling doesnt last for me at all so I decided to go with interlocking. In the beginning I interlocked after the first two months, after that I’d wait an additional 4-6 months. Because the beginning stages are extremely crucial to locks maturity and thickening, I spanned my “retwists” months and months apart. This drastically helped. I also wet my hair everyday either by spray bottle shower and then I oil. I’d restart if I were you OR combine them. If you happen to restart your locs and switch methods and do palm rolling, do NOT palm rolling the entire shaft. Palm roll ONLY the root when retwisting. This may cause your locs to unravel and mature slower yes, BUT it’ll allow the shaft of your locs to expand (thicken) to its fullest capacity.
@@futurehomes8284 That was really detailed and I really appreciate you taking the time to do it. I've been debating restarting bc It would be my 2nd time in 2.5 years restarting. I had my barber do my first that were free-form which had too many limitations and now interlocking with a loctician. But I loved the thickness of my locs when they weren't interlocked so restart it is. Thanks again.
@@stananderson1463 Your locs were thicker when freeforming because you weren’t “manipulating” them, you were allowing them to go to their thickest because you weren’t rolling the shaft (palm rolling) and you weren’t interlocking the roots. Keep in mind, all methods to make locs can cause thinning and breaking, just don’t “maintain” them as often. You can definitely maintain the thickness for years and years, though! When you restart, ask for thick parts. Your parts will be the thickness of your actual loc shaft so keep that in mind! Just retwist/interlock less and you’ll be good to go! Go to a great loctocian though! Sometimes it is THEM that’s ruining your hair lol. And no problem! Thanks for reading and responding! Hope it all works out for you :D
I think that's the most I've seen someone's hair grow in a such short spaces. Your hair grew like crazy in the first 3 weeks

Has anyone in here started with interlocking. I did and its been almost a year and my locs are still much skinnier that I wanted. Is crochet better?

How did you get them so thick ?
how often did you retwist your hair tho?
The first 3 months or so, I retwisted every 2 weeks. Then once a month
Then fresh retwist be having your hair stiff as ever.
They were stiff regardless. 😂 that was literally part of my locing process.
Ur so cute lol
How many do you have
No idea lol! I’m probably going to make a loc counting video
