- In Transformers, Predaking is the ultimate Decepticon warrior. Formed from 5 Predacons, he is designed with only killing in mind. However, there is another… Predacon. In this third-party set from TengYang, a sixth member of the team has been added which makes this set even cooler. Captain Kyle goes through all the figures to see if they’re good for your collection.
Predaking in the Transformers cartoon and comic was the merged form of Razorclaw, Rampage, Divebomb, Headstrong, and Tantrum. A sixth Predacon is present in this set, who is similar to Rampage but more of a sabretooth-style predator. As he doesn’t have a name (at least that I can read), I’ve named him Mangle. The original Predacons and the versions they released afterward have been popular. No wonder the descendants of the Decepticons called themselves Predacons! Captain Kyle reviews this set thoroughly.

The 6th member is the Decepticon-turned-Autobot called "Catilla", who was a pretender beast. It was sold originally as a third party, stand alone, which could technically be used with the original 3P Predaking.
Mangle's G1 name is Catilla. He was an Autobot Pretender (the shell was a Saber tooth Tiger, and the alt mode for the bot inside was a robotic Saber Tooth Tiger as well). That's why this one has a Saber Tooth mask over the tiger head, to homage the Pretender original figure. This design is my favorite Predaking, yet. It's a bit outdated but the other alternatives are far from this one imho.
I actually thought about Catilla, but I would rather it be a new character and leave the Pretender as his own thing. But good info. Thanks!

You called it. That's a KO of the MMC Feral Rex, with the bonus 6th figure they released.
This is an undersized KO of Feral Rex. A lot of the joints are stiff because they were turned into hexagon soft ratchet pegs. Tantrum & Headstrong have their heads & chest plates on the wrong bodies, but it's an easy fix- swap the heads, open the bodies & unscrew the chest plates from inside. The feet are tricky but they were on the original MMC version, not one of the better designed aspects. The simplification on a lot of the parts almost works in favor of the combined mode because the pelvis shield was also designed very strange, reducing it to one removable panel here was probably for the best.
As someone who's had both the original MMC and the undersized, I agree on all accounts.
That pelvis shield on mine (the Jinbao version) is the bane of my freakin existence. It's insane how such a small, seemingly harmless part could cause SO many problems getting that thing to pose, or even stand.
May get a set just to keep in individual modes since I already have the POTP Predaking. Nice review!
I used to keep all my combiner teams in their individual robot modes, but now I keep them combined to save space. But these guys are definitely cool in their individual forms.
I mentioned it in the comment I left you about the PotP Predaking a few minutes ago, but I have the OS/KO Jinbao version of this set. It's got a few minor issues, but overall I think it's a great set. I did end up getting the factory upgrades to fix several of the initial problems it had, so it's better than it was, though I really didn't have any complaints with the original set before the factory upgrades (and the Combiner mode fingertip claw add-ons).
I think I found my OS/KO set for about $100 and with the factory upgrades and claw fingertips upgrade kits, probably had $125-130 invested in the set which has a 6th figure, swords & weapons, all at the same size as the PotP set, but costed $20-30 LESS than PotP Predaking and that set requires the DNA upgrades to really be what it should have been from day one... but, yeah, I have the PotP Predaking with DNA upgrades, as well as the WeiJiang KO 1:1 set. 😅
With any luck, maybe I can get this set too, as I have an undersized KO version of CW Devastator that would look great with this set, and both would scale better with the CW combiners, height-wise anyway...

A simplified KO of MMC's Feral Rex. There was a purple recolor named Nero Rex. The Jinbao you referred to was an upscale to be 45 cm (the heads and the combined sword are also comically enlarged out of proportion). Before that, NeoArts made a 1:1 KO of MMC (same size as your copy) which was also highly sought back then after due to the scarcity of the original MMC.
I have the BIG Jinbao version, the heads are pretty good(yes the sword is still huge) but the price is basically the same of this one.
@@drstephenstrange897 I also bought the jinbao version but there are a lot of problems with mine:
1. The plastic is low quality (a leg of divebomb snapped of)
2. Razorclaws arms are monkey arms (backside of hand is facing down while the joint in the elbow is bend up)
3. The head of the combined mode is very loose as it always faces downwards
4. Divebomb has a completely differerent head sculpt than the original version

Considering the originals were released around the same time as the PotP (maybe earlier?) the designs look about as modern as what Hasbro is doing right now in the Generations line.

Hah, this made me double-take; I just got the OVERsized KO of Feral Rex from Jinbao! This is 100% the MMC Feral Rex but slightly smaller.
The Tengyang downsized KO is definitely simplified much more than Jinbao's oversized KO: Divebomb's wings are molded in as single huge pieces so you don't have the individually articulated feathers like the MMC, NeoArt, & Jinbao versions...Tantrum's transformation is supposed to have his robot mode back on the underside for beast mode; the Predaking foot should have a tab that rotates down to plug into him, but from the look of it, it probably won't fit, necessitating the Headstrong style transformation and using the posts on his back to connect the Predaking foot (EXACTLY like the Jinbao)...the way Razorclaw's shield/Predaking's crotch works...do the arm critters - Rampage, Divebomb, & Catilla - have the port for the combined cannon? (That's where it's supposed to go, on the Rampage arm)
I have the Jinbao OSKO, but this is very tempting just because its size is in line with most other Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors/Power of the Primes/Generations Selects Combiners. BUT!! Tengyang's plastic quality worries me: I've heard nothing good about it so far. Already lost my copy of the Cool Become Brave Devastator to some crucial but seemingly minor breakages that make it impossible for the Constructicons to ever combine again...don't wanna go through anything similar again.
I had the jinbao predaking version 2 5:1. Traded him in for CW Devastor. I found Predaking was to top heavy, knees couldn't support the weight, and needed an anti slip mat to stand him up. They took to many short cut, with not haven't the proper tab done to keep him together. Shame he looked great, but a nightmare to pose. Predaking my favorite combiner.
Well, this one is plastic and seems to hold together fine. Might be a goud alternative.
I have the Jinbao OS/KO version also, plus the 2 upgrades that Jinbao did to fix a few issues, such as new bot hands, and claw tips for the Predaking fingers... additionally, I have the PotP Boxed set Predaking + DNA Upgrades, and the 1:1 KO version which is superior to the PotP version, as it incorporates elements that the DNA kit shouldn't have needed to fix, as well as a nice sword too... (can't quite remember the KO's name, or the company, but they did a great job of fixing the PotP version with their product...)
That said, I'd like to get this set so it scales better with the other CW Combiners, and would be a good companion piece for my downsized CW KO Devastator...
So, far I've managed to get all of the original G1 Combiners in their CW/PotP G3 formats (except for Monstructor obviously 😅), scaled with the standard voyager torso + deluxe limbs... but I've been trying to acquire OS/KO versions of the non-Titan Combiners as well, to match up better with the CW Devastator and PotP Predaking. Thus far, I have all but Piranhacon, Menasor, and Computron in OS/KO scale.
I recently found the OS/KO Defensor + upgrades, that you reviewed, which helped with assembly, because they gave me no instructions 😂... I keep hoping a KO company will finally get around to the Technobots in the OS/KO + Upgrades set, but so far, no luck. As for Menasor, I'm hoping for an OS/KO Legacy version Menasor at some point... Seacons I can wait for awhile longer to upscale.

I will say one thing i have to thank the kos of this set for, i was able to get the og real deal mmc feral rex for the price of the jinbao because they didn't know they had the real deal
I got that set recently and...... _OOOooooooffffffffffff...._
Right out of the box, a lion leg was broken off. Then the legs of the bull and rhino were misassembled. The guns were FUSED together to make the big gun and while disassembling it, a gun peg broke. Finally, the robot feet of the bird broke. I'm used to build, repair, and customise Transformers so doing all the fixes and repairs were doable for me. The set is cheap, sure, but it also feels very cheap. Not for the faint of heart.
TlDr; you get what you pay for.
Wow. I didn't have nearly as many issues. Just the slightly detached lion head, and I did break and fix Divebomb's foot. I try to take extra care with third-party stuff.

Yes, Divebomb can be an arm.
Yes. He's also a good fit for a Combiner Wars collection, only slightly taller than other combiners (and the same height as Legacy Menasor)
Is this tengyang predating joints loose or tight? I see Jinbao predating is over $100 still out of my budget. I am considering this Tengyang one but concern the quality issues

@@ToySpotlite thank you Sir. Jinbao is too bigger. I am looking for the combiner about 30 cm height to match my other collections . Looks like this one fit for the size. I do not find any other version of predaking in this size.
Ankle ROCKERS go forward and backwards. Ankle TILTS go sideways, left to right. The trick to remember the difference is that when sitting in a ROCKING chair, it rocks forwards and backwards and does not TILT side to side. lol

Did I misspeak? I am aware Airrazor is a her. Funny thing, they did not know this in Japan when bringing over the original Beast Wars show and hired a male voice actor to portray the character. Which made it interesting when Tigatron and Airrazor started showing romantic affection.
