Born in 1950...If I had one wish, it would be that I could take you back to my days of the late 50's thru the 60's...the music, the cars, the Saturday nights. KOMA radio, reverb, my 66 Goat, MOTOWN, the WALL of SOUND, and the nights I spent listening to these sounds...Lord how I miss them. The sounds of today just...no matter how hard they try, never come close to what we had. Forgive us Lord, for forgetting what we had...and thanks to those who have posted this and all the sounds of my day on youtube...Timi says it best...Nothing can take the place you (of this era of music).
Thank you for posting this song...now I need to find the CD with this recording. Have my father's 45 of this! Love this song and this singer! RIP, Mr. Benton!
This song by Mr Brook Benton takes me back to my love Curtis Branch who I met in 1975 andhe also is gone but never forgotten, just as Mr Benton. Thanks Brook for such a beautiful song and memory.RIP
Don't ever stop singing Brook! your songs had the same effect when I heard them as a teenager and now! It is so romantic and beautiful that I want to fall in love again all over, It's so good for the soul, body, and mind and I never get tired of playing your music. This song has significant meaning for me. I was in love with a beautiful soul.
I miss my/our beloved Janel soooo much.....my heart aches, even though I have the blessed hope of seeing my daughter who was murdered along with a beloved mother and daughter in 2017.💔💕💜😇
@@duracelleke1 The backing singer here is Cissy Houston (Mother of Whitney Houston)… and funny you should ask because she is also the soprano for Elvis’ “Are you lonesome tonight”
I thought that when I heard Toussaint Mc Call do this song that it could not be bettered..Brook takes it slightly different and makes the song his own..Amazing version !!
Dear Brook and Mr Benton .... how doth one adequately mention ... (rhyme) the combined effect of thy look and voice ... both ultra ultra ultra warm, kind, disarming, gentlemanly, paternally wise, reassuring, yet ever-wooing. Dear lovely, warm man and dad-you-desire-to-date, Uncle first heard his lovely Ike Hayes (who declared thee as one of his influences) doing this very song. Dear Ike then pointed thy record out and the rest is history !!! Uncle's Ike-Bubba has always had good musical taste ... hence thy being one of his equally-baritoned influences. Now it maketh perfect sense !!! Uncle wouldst sayeth more, but he'll save it for the song of thine that has always resonated with him long before dear Ike led him here. Uncle now proceedeth unto "ALL IN THE GAME"!!!
Tgis somg sings the truth about two people in love and the regret that comes after having let go of the other...............havent most been here before?
Very good performance but I still prefer Toussaint McCall's version. I think McCall had a simpler yet more touching rendering. I must admit, thought, that Benton's voice is one of the greatest. I wish we had more singers like these two nowadays.
hi,be careful with cds, often they are different from the original vinyl [they have been taken from a different recording session, and he is in a different mood!] this one sounds as the original.many other Benton"s I"ve listened to on utube are not as the vinyl,[not as soulful]but people don"t know!

Beautiful version of this song! And yes that's the great Cissy Houston singing the soprano background
Cissy Houston has quite an angelic range. This is Whitney Houston's tree from which the fruit fell!
