Stromae plays the manequin in this video... About 40% of the Belgian population are French spreaking. Maybe you want to check out the Tous les mêmes video. There's also a video on youtube of his 2014 Montreal concert... one you got to take your time for...to sit back and enjoy. Excellent music, thought provoking lyrics.
Welcome in the world of our Belgian genius. Stromae is a complete artist with visual masterpieces. From popular to less: L'enfer, Tous les memes, Formidable, Santé, Fils de joie. A must see is Quand c'est, very powerful. His breakthrough song is Alors on danse, popular on tiktok few years ago. A bit context for Papaoutai: Stromae lost his father during the Rwandan genocide. His mom only told him the truth years later when he was old enough to understand, so he was always thinking where his father was and why he didnt come home.
Though Stromae himself claims he mostly writes songs about things he’s thinking about in general, not necessarily things he’s experienced himself, this one in particular has some strong parallels to his own life. His father was a Rwandan architect who was murdered in a… bad thing… that went down in Rwanda 1994 (hey, I’m trying to avoid getting censored here) when Stromae was about nine years old and lived in Belgium. Stromae and his father had regular contact over the phone whenever his father went to Rwanda for work, but eventually the calls just stopped. Stromae’s mother didn’t know how to break the news to her son, so he was kinda just left wondering what happened for a few years until he apparently put the pieces together by himself when he stumbled over a documentary about *the bad thing* on TV.
His mother from Belgium made him with his father from Rwanda. His father, a Tutsi, was killed in the massacres by the Hutu's. His mother could not bring herself to tell him. So she made up a story about his father being a traveling businessman, that would someday return home...
First, excuse me for my bad english, I'm french. Thank you for your reaction for this title of this great artist. I recomend you certains of his song: "Carmen," "Quand c'est", "Tous les mêmes, " Formidable", "L'Enfer", "Fils de joie'. Have a good day !
If you are a French speaker, Stromae has a brilliant play on words, papaoutai is not a French word but ‘papa où t’es’ is the correct term. And throughout the song he plays on words wonderfully that can’t be translated, so you can only imagine how much we French speaker appreciate his songs.
je te conseille cancer, carmen, formidable ,santé,fils de joie ,tous les mêmes ,...toute son oeuvre, musicalement et graphiquement complet , bête de scène en concert...un génie! c'est une belge qui te le dit!! thanks for the reactions!

I could be wrong , but i think that this song is the most french video seeing on RUclips 👌
"Papaoutai" is a contraction of "Papa ou t'es" (in French) = Dad where are you
Stromae es de lo mejor que puedes escuchar es increíble !!!
"Papa, ou t'es ?" can be translated to "Where are you, Dad?"
