  • Can you help the ocean without having a degree in marine biology? I often get asked this question. In this video I discuss this subject and reveal some other jobs and careers which are crucial in ocean and environmental conservation.

Plenty of different fields out there to focus on. And obviously, there is plenty of options. Plus: It is never too late to reconsider options... older is not necessarily worse - experience (even in a different field) can be an asset!

I am so glad I found your channel during quarantine you are such an inspiration! I always wanted to take Marine Biology when I was in high school because I love the ocean and it's marine life but growing up as a middle class citizen in a third world country (I'm from the Philippines btw) where people question your life choices saying "it's not a practical job" or "do you know how expensive that is?" can really affect your motivation at a young age. I am already 21 years old with a degree in Psychology, I do not regret to major in psychology because it is a fascinating subject to learn about but at the back of my mind I always questioned "I wonder if I took Marine Biology instead?", now that I'm more aware with my priorities and life goals I am going to be Marine Biologist no matter what! I don't know how for now but I really do want to contribute for the ocean and marine life.

You have been such an inspiration for me (and many, ofc) since I was in junior high school. Now I'm a college student majoring in marine science and hope that I can continue my study, get myself focused in marine biology, and work as a good marine biologist like youu, even i know, it doesnt as easy as it says. I learnt a lot from youu! love all your videos❤

I have grown up by the red sea and am lucky enough to be 16 and already be so knowledged about the ocean and am going to study biology and marine biology in Uni. Do you have any tips on what subjects I should take in my last two years in Highschool to direct my education towards marine biology? Love your vids!

Hi Maria! Right now, I am a pre-med major, but I have always had a deep love for the ocean (Florida native!). The way my college's program is set up, I am able to major in Marine Biology while fulfilling medical school prerequisites. I was curious if you had any suggestions for working with the ocean as an MD. So far, I've looked into volunteering with ocean conservationists while practicing medicine, Biomedical Engineering and Marine Biomedical research, but I have so many interests that I'm having trouble narrowing it down! I don't know if you have any experience with this, but I would really appreciate any advice you have to offer :)

I'm waiting today for my PhD acceptance letter to work on marine ecology-politics of a mollusc that is categorized as an endangered species (shoulnd't be), trying to make that pathway into politics because I really think we should be more involved on the desition making procces by goverments, its ok that people want to be involved with the sea but maybe because of that, they can't clearly se the not-so-whole picture we have of marine dynamics dont see the hole picture and understand all the complexity that happens below the sea.

What would you recommend that someone do if they're struggling to find a discipline they want to pursue? I'm a junior at my university and it was only this year that I added my environmental science degree. I've been doing a lot of volunteering this year and I've learned I have an immense interest in aquatic ecology, but I have no idea if that would be for freshwaters or ocean waters. Given that I'm graduating in a year, I'm nervous about job prospects. For reference, I live in the United States. Also, I loved this video! Thanks for the help!

I’ve always been passionate about marine biology and the ocean it’s self but another thing that is important is family. Do you think you could speak on this topic? Btw your eyes are beautiful

I want to become a marine biologist just to be part of a conservation team. (Actually it doesn't make sense, cause I could actually work in a conservation program without any degree).
