Okay, a new additional bucket list item! Salmon fishing in Iceland! Yes! Just a thought, maybe weigh down the fly more. Here in the U.S., we wrap the shank of the hook with lead to weigh it down to get deeper into the zone. BTW, dragging it onto shore is perfectly fine. 😊😊😊😊
What beautiful underwater filming, I could watch this all day! Most educational too learning how and where they hold and how they react to our flies. Such clear water too. How spectacular that you get to enjoy that!! and we do too vicariously. Do you have more videos?
Great fishing clip! To all the people who complained about the salmon being beached, get over it! The salmon will be fine. They bang and crash against stones and rocks as they swim up the river. The most important thing is to get the hook out and get them back in the water quickly... which he did. Nice underwater shots. Good on you!
This is the Atlantic salmon or Salmo Salar in Latin. This is the only salmon species we have here in Iceland. Only one river in Iceland stocks steelhead and this is not the one. The Atlantic salmon always puts up a great fight no matter how small it is. This summer I hooked a fish well over 10 kilos but after five minutes he sent the fly back to me with the hooks all bent up.
Great video. Where is it from? Is it part of a nature documentary? I had luck with one of the sisters in Scotland - unfortunately the artificial kind (i don't mean a blow up doll :)) - interested to see that if you get a 'nibble' but not a strong take to go for something a different colour. Anyway, they are wonderful creatures. Tight lines.
I'd love it at the end of each season if you were sent a report by 'the all seeing eye'! In that report it told you how many pools you fished that actually did or did not have fish in at the time. What casts you made which had fish interested etc. It's a complete fantasy but it would be great just to know. It's a really interesting video just to see how the salmon react. Amazing shots.
Absolutely amazing footage ,just shows how the fish react when one of the group of fish is hooked and the others dont even look as though anything different is happening Question though how did you guys know the fish were there ,did you search the water first with the camera?? thank you for a brilliant peace of work
@ardrankin: there's a little program called Downadhelper. You can install it in you toolbar and then easily download all kind of films by just klicking the little icon. I use it for years now. Greetz, OQ
Thank you for that piece of info. the rod is a single handed 7. It´s perfect for grilse and bigger trout, especially sea trout. For bigger salmon it is better to have a double handed rod.
hi oku66. we used a special camera that is not very disturbing to the salmon. It´s called Pole Cam. But it took us a month to learn how to approach the salmon with the camera.
we get this close with a 12 feet pole and a small lense on the end but the camera recorder on the other end. everything is on a tripod where the screen and the controls for everything are. you can buy one for 20.000 pounds! The water has to be relatively clear though.
Hi Bjork, I have been ask to pass this to you as Bill isn't to good with technology. Gary. Hello! We are a charity based in Scotland and who operate a salmon fishing museum in the town of Kelso(see website) We would like to use a film clip of your video of the salmon underwater taking a fly on one of our screens in the museum and would be very grateful for your consent to copy this, and of any other underwater video which you might have Bill Quarry River Tweed Salmon Fishing Museum
probably never. I just did a series about a fishing competition btw me and my twin brother but the production quality was not like you can see here. The DVD from the series is coming out in the fall. But thanks for the positive comment.
A large full colour new book in our Canadian library features hand-tied saltwater tied flies. It features a dozen famous fly tie people form a lady in Scotland to the Mirimashi guy in NB Canada and down into Maine. Atlantic salmon, of course. The flies are incredible.
HI . No we didn´t search with the camera. we just went up and down the river - very carefully - and used our eyes...and polaroid glasses. we thought there might be a couple of fish in the pool! we didn´t see all of them until the camera was in the water.
Crystal clear water, beautiful. Spare a thought for us Irish Anglers who fish peat stained rivers and can never know if we are actually covering a fish as we can't see if they are present or not.
Some interesting notes 1) many takes could be unnoticeable for the angler 2) salmon rarely chase the fly too long, most takes happened when fly was very close to the fish 3) fighting of one hooked fish doesnt spook the rest of the crowd
I have been a flyfisher for years..i can tell you....fish dont feel pain, ! say what you like, i know the facts, ok, so i would not have landed a fish in this fashion, but it would still be fine if released , in any case he probably kept it, there are two catches on this vid as far as i can see, looks like a trout rod ? nice footage
rob b Why on earth do right handed anglers wind in with the right too? Surely it is better to control a fish with your stronger arm.All this swapping of hands to wind in, I never understand.Terrific footage though.
Þessa á þekki ég eins og hendina á mér. Ólst upp í Nesjahverfi og þarna lék maður sér mikið. Er mögulegt að kaupa þetta á disk eða eitthvað slíkt? Var þetta gefið út?
Don't get it! Right handed angler uses weaker left arm to play fish so that the simple process of winding can be done with the right. Too much unnecessary arm swapping for me! Never understood why any right handed angler needs to do this.
Yes they are nasty parasites but they don't live long at all in freshwater. The salmon has just come from the sea a few hours ago if sea lice are still attached to the fish.
I'll explain you "normies!" ( joking).....in pacific , Atlantic salmon, arctic char,(+ sea brook, bull and varden) sea trout, and steelhead (cutthroat too) cultures we Love sea lice ! There associated with the most powerful fish. They have just arrived in fresh water and haven't spent the insane energy it takes to get up river.. thus are carrying nasty lice from the sea. They die in the fresh water and have there place in the ecosystem,
The commentator knows nothing about fly fishing for salmon...... His idea is to change the fly when the salmon took the fly already on the line........ Ridiculous. A lot of mumbo jumbo is bandied about re the correct fly. Two flies are needed to catch salmon a light colour and a dark colour but in different weights. The weight is of paramount important because the depth at which it fishes is crucial........ The salmon pictured are ready to take in any case and are seen to rise quite a lot through the depth of water but the angler is not in touch with his fly. Fishing as such he will miss takes on a regular basis. Obviously he has not caught many salmon on the so called Fly.
What is strange to me is the fact that he walks way back into the bank without any reason. Stay put, reel in when you can, and let the drag do its job...
I've just read your post. WEll with rrepect you don't know a thing about my experience. I've caught fish in Scotland when my expert Welsh pals caught nowt as well as 30 others caught nowt staying and fishing at the same hotel. One another occasion I caught two salmon when a scot born in the house just up the bank again caught nowt....... and I've caught fish on days others failed so how would you compare my inexperience to theirs? Always keep an open mind. Another tactic that is likely to be more productive is never fish with a slack line because it's a bad habit! More fish would have been caught if the fisher was more in tight contact with the lure.
Dear zymbotictoot. I always pictured fly-fishers as beeing gentlemen. But obviously I was wrong. You are not a gentleman. I suggest you find another channel for your anger my friend. And remember. It wasn´t your fault your father drank! You were just a child! And for your information...there is nothing like a fresh wild salmon. And we can actually afford to keep them here in Iceland.
Thanks. My aim is to go to Mongolia to do similar stuff. Just need some sponsors. Any volunteers? já þetta er Gunni H og þetta er úr myndinni Svona tekur laxinn.
the best underwater footage of salmon fishing i've ever seen.
Now this is what I have been looking for on the web for the longest time. This is the best footage on the web I have ever seen!
I've been an avid fisherman for decades and never knew that salmon can be caught with a camera.
Fabulous film love the underwater camera brilliant 🙏

Great filming underwater! Really cool!
As far as the countryside goes you'd have a hard time building a log cabin there!
Great video. Where is it from? Is it part of a nature documentary? Nice Video. Wish I was there. Maybe one day. Its certainly not like the Moy in Co Mayo.

Sweet fishing! Nice fish and great underwater footage! Tumbs up!
Sweet fishing! Nice fish and great underwater footage! well DONE 10+++++++
Great underwater shots, really interesting, thank you.
I wonder what type of camera was used for the underwater shots. Seems that it captured color reasonably well; not all underwater cameras do.
Absolutely amazing footage ,just shows how the fish react when one of the group of fish is hooked and the others dont even look as though anything different is happening

Hi. This is Gunnar/Björk. This post/comment was brought to my attention just now. Let me talk to my co-producers and get back to you.
Only took RUclips 13 years to finally put this in my recommended
LoL awesome footage right?
Wonderful video!! The best!
Aside from the horrible landing, that was a fantastic piece of work. Don't think I've seen anything like it. Thank you.
Guess he should have just kept it to make everyone happy.
Yeap, I´ve learnt a lot these past years in this one of those. Didn´t loose one salmon last summer but cought around 50. Thanks.
Great video gunnheil. Can you post up some more like this?
Brilliant ... anymore footage like this ?
Do steelhead move for a fly like this as well?
We have same fish in New Brunswick Canada.Nice footage hope to see more
Fisher Steeves Wow, that fish gets about! And I thought that Atlantic salmon returned to the same river every year!
Cool video... 5 star. 8)

Nice video very informative !

Nice video!
looks like heaps of fun!
Crystal clear water, beautiful. Spare a thought for us Irish Anglers who fish peat stained rivers and can never know if we are actually covering a fish as we can't see if they are present or not.
I would like to save this film to my iphone so that I can watch offline.
Any idea how I can do this?
Nice footage
The reason there's not many salmon there is the fact that Iceland still net Atlantic salmon
Nice video! Let's get a group together to go to Mongolia for Taimen! -trouttrek-
Some interesting notes 1) many takes could be unnoticeable for the angler 2) salmon rarely chase the fly too long, most takes happened when fly was very close to the fish 3) fighting of one hooked fish doesnt spook the rest of the crowd
Very Nice I love it
@05tech Damages it's mucus layer and leaves the fish very susceptible to infection and disease.
It doesn't spoil it once it's on the fire!
zymbotictoot you just got owned, and sweet video.
Nice video! Let’s be friend!
good job dragging the fish on the gravel and rocks.
thank you very much.

@05tech because you remove scales and a special slime that protects them against bacteria.
tak ska du ha. I´ll check out your site.
thank you very much sir.
I've been draggin fish out of our rivers for a good 50 years, at least. Trouts.
Why can't you drag the fish on land? Sry ima beginner
beautifull!
I appreciate salmon 'bash' themselves against the gravel on the river bed when making their redds but that landing ffs.
I like salmon there interesting
Won't see clear river like that in California
Thank you

No idea! Sorry!
@OMGitsme3335 . Oh, My God, the rod is Loop Grey Line and the line is Loop shooting head floating lIne. Everything number 7
