Just got one. Pedal of the year, if not decade for me! Starts there, where my PlexiTone ends.
No clean or crunch tones, not even vintage overdrive, but excellent, widely adjustable modern high-gain tones in top notch quality.
The sound quality you hardly can get better with real tubes, so Ibanez really did a good job. Plus, for the gain range this pedal really works very silent and if not, the built-in noise gate does a good job, but the secret weapons are pre-boost, which also can reduce input level and the parametric eq.
Sounds good even standalone, but even much better in combination with a tube (power) amp. But also some other tube gear or a cheap budget tube amp makes a difference.
Also interesting, how different the pedal with the same settings sounds in combination with EL34 or 6L6 tubes. The 6L6 give you nice Rectifier / MK.V sounds, while the EL34 alter the sound to an even more aggresssive Diezel, SLO, Engl, 5150 sound.
Treble sounds beautiful, especially in comparison with some other tubeless pedal preamps. No harsh, shrill, scratchy tones, nevertheless you can adjust excellent razor-sharp Metal treble too, but also a very sweet Petrucci-like one easily.
A bargain for the price!
I just bought it, it is great. Makes my telecaster a hellcaster.
One of the best distortions out there but this is not a preamp or even an overdrive.

I wanna see thing pushing on a live rig with say a multi-effects in the front and an stereo amps set up and an out to pa system. Le sigh there goes my income tax... Ibanez does it to me every time and oh yeah PLease come out with a new S7 type and Tone blaster series. I miss my 50r, I can't find one anywhere on the nets.

Awesome and versatile sounds indeed. But you didn't say what we are actually listening to. Was this just the pedal? Pedal into amp/amp sim? Cab sim? Compression or other studio plugins?

When will this be available in India
Still haven't seen any review that discusses whether the Drive can be turned down completely as an option, thereby utilizing the EQ and Gate independently. While I like the Drive as an option, this piece is only useful to me if it can also be played clean. Ibanez has the EQ and Gate pedals on their own, but they don't provide the preamp.
Can anyone confirm?
Hi there. I own a Pentatone and I’m very happy with it. To answer your question, the gate and the EQ are only functional when the pedal is engaged. Simple solution though. Keep it engaged!
It really is wonderful, even at low gain settings. I’m not a heavy rock player and I love it.
@@BlueStratRedStrat Appreciate that. I actually ended up going into a store here in Toronto to try one and find out. Unfortunately it doesn't provide for a clean EQ switch, as you say. The overdriven tones are VERY nice, and you can really hone into different aesthetics. I'm very impressed. However, I do play clean primarily and really wanted that EQ option. It looks like the only way is to have both this and the Pentatone EQ in chain, or maybe go a bit cheaper with a used 6 band MXR, for example. Anyway, great pedal, just too bad it's an inch short of being perfect for me

It sounds like you have a good alternative plan though. The BOSS GE-7 is a very solid option as well. Safe travels, my friend.
Can the Eq be used independently of the distortion?
I watched a bunch of vids to answer this, but no one mentions it. I ended up just down at a music store to try it and can confirm, Drive cannot be turned off independently from the EQ. I was hoping this was my ultimate stomp box, with independent Gate, EQ, Drive, and Pre-amp, but unfortunately I would have to buy this + the Pentatone EQ to get everything I want in a stomp setup. I will say, though, that the drive is very versatile and I could really dial in tones that I enjoy, sort of a deep wooly sound with less attack

@@verybestideas I think that's the solution, if you think like I do. I've browsed around but don't see anything that has all of those elements in 1 box, unless you get into modellers, etc. Both boxes is a bit steep for me to justify financially, but it would be an awesome combination, basically provide everything I need for my current sound
