For anyone else looking, I have owned this pedal for a couple months and it makes cheap hardware sound great. Can't wait for the new 7 string to show up and to hook up my marshal full stack to it. Great little pedal.
very sane price point considering all the functionality. It also looks like it was tested well and they added the rail to protect the fragile linear pots. The lights in the pots is killer.
This pedal is awesome, but 3 small things that would’ve made it even better is to be able to route the parametric EQ, volume boost and noise gate into the effects loop via a toggle switch. While the eq with sliders, and the distortion stay in front of the amplifier!! So freakin close to a design that I’ve been dreaming for!
Yeah I was hoping to get one pedal to use in to boost my old Marshalls or in the loop of modern amps just to shape things up but it looks as though the graphic EQ cannot be used without the gain circuit dirtying things up.
This pedal is incredible! Most probably the best Ibanez pedal ever! Changes my cheap Killer Ant to a 5150 or VH-4 or my equally cheap Tweed Princeton clone to a Rectifier! (At least for recording) But also sounds awesome standalone (in combination with a good cabinet IR). Equally well works in front of my SV-20 or Tiny Terror. Sound shaping options with the parametric eq are almost infinite, but the basic sound without activated eq already sounds fantastic, very natural and tube amp-like, if not already even better, which is also important for me. Also comparably noiseless working. (My PlexiTone is much noisier in comparison.) What more can I wish?
I'm hoping someone will do a video demonstrating using it as a clean boost with the gain completely off, the manual doesn't specify how much gain each boost and level control has Like set it up for unity gain on a clean or edge of breakup amp, then show how much boost is available (without distortion)
You cannot adjust this pedal clean. Lowest gain settings (without any boost on) start with some sort of Tweed Deluxe/Plexi crunch. But clean tones you anyway get from every cheap budget tube amp too. But not these high-gain tones....
@@mattloughran9817 For this purpose maybe a Joyo Band Controller does a better job. I often use it only as neutral boost or even as gain level reducer to simulate a not existing amp low input and the 10 bands allow good sound shaping too.
The bass and treble knobs are for the preamp, always on. The five band EQ is switchable for additional tone shaping for a whole different sound. I definitely would love this feature.
Hi, richardegmontbade7082! Thanks for your message regarding the Pentatone pedal. There is a TRS jack on the back of the pedal providing external footswitch access to the EQ (access to preboost, as well). Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Can this unit be used as a transparent EQ alone? The gain and gate options are rad but I would like to get one pedal that functions in front of an amp and can shape up an already heavy tone in the loop without adding any more gain. I was just gonna get the old faithful BOSS GE-7 until I saw this beast...
Hi, thanks for your interest! You certainly could use the EQ without engaging the boost or gate. If you’re not going to use those other features, though, they do have another pedal which is just the EQ on its own: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PTEQ--ibanez-pteq-penatone-5-band-parametric-eq-pedal I hope this helps a bit - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! Hi, Gregory. The boosts and EQ only work when the pedal is turned on. You could switch them on and off to have a certain tone ready to go when you switch the pedal on, but you wouldn’t be able to to use the boosts or EQ independently of the rest of the pedal. Also, to switch the Pre Boost and EQ on and off, you’ll need the optional 2-button footswitch as well. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Shame that the distortion circuit must be engaged to enjoy the eq and pre boost. Hopefully Ibanez adds that functionality in V2. It would really add some value as a tone shaper and distortion pedal.
Thanks for your message, great question. Most of the demos do show the pedal being used with guitar. That said, I’d absolutely use it on bass. Either split so there’s a parallel dry path or less gain if playing direct through it to aide in clarity. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Thanks for your message, hope you’re well. Parametric EQ does not discriminate! Clean, Crunch, Drive, Chunk, Ambient, Lead tones are viable applications of Parametric or Graphic or Shelving EQ. If you're asking if you can keep using the EQ when the distortion circuit is bypassed, unfortunately not, BUT they're releasing the Pentatone EQ section as it's own pedal soon - I believe June or July. I'm waiting on that one, myself.

Nick is such a metalhead at heart and I love it lol
Nick is by far the best Sweetwater demo dude for metal-oriented amps and effects 🤘
It looks pretty versatile, it sounds amazing. I'll have to check this out. Great video, thanks 🤘
I love to watch Nick demo gear....As a lefty myself, I absolutely fawn over some of his guitars and playing. Hope to meet him some day...

This or the mesa full throttle?
Love that you played ‘Crying in the Rain’ around the 6-minute mark!

This a serious pedal for metal. Combine this with a TCE Combo Deluxe '65 and got (almost) everything covered 👌🤠
Nick, i always look forward to your videos, and you did NOT disappoint, again!!! Thanks for all your content!!!
It definitely sounds extremely raw! I love it!

im thinking of getting this pedal thank u so much for the review
I've been looking for one since they announced it, it looks and sounds fantastic!

Thanks Nick Ibanez did well with this 👏 👍 appreciate u man 🎶🎸🎛🥁😈
Sounds great. Maybe they'll do a next level with amp sim and fx loop? Not sure why it needed bass/treble knobs, but maybe there's an application.

Does it do clean tones?
Thanks for the review!!! Can the Eq be used independently of the distortion?

SICK! CAN THE PRE BOOST AND EQ BE SWITCHED ON/OFF WHEN THE PEDAL IS BYPASSED? CAN THE POST BOOST BE SWITCHED ON AND OFF INDEPENDANTLY?

Wow
They should have made that eq foot switchable
It is, just add a dial footswitch into the jack in back.
Release the bee's 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Love it❗👍👍👍
Left handed guitarists always look like they're fighting playing
Ibanez making high pedals on a low key while Two notes Revolt and Tonex are coming out
Ibanez, i love you..but.. are you really gonna make me replace the SD-1 in front of my marshall with this? .. yeah probably :P
hi. did you put some glue on the gain button so you can't go back to clean ? 🤣
Check out Randy Rhoads here. LOL.
