    Very good video! I always enjoy watching these to better my understanding about moving from a lube/tire tech to a actual mechanic. :)

    This is a nice video. I just finished doing this this afternoon. Wasn't all that hard and I saved who knows how much. I also changed my tension struts a few weeks back.

    Thanks for the video. Would it be helpful to include the grease gun in your upfront list of tools? Also discuss a little more the need to add grease to the assembly and how. Thanks again

    You should post a video of how to replace those troublesome rear axle seals for the 2006-2010 Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300.
    A local shop wanted $600 to do the job.

    At the end, what did you mean by grease the fitting until the boot swells? What kind of grease are you using?

    • @ElizabethGreene
      @ElizabethGreene 4 года назад +3

      It means to attach a grease gun to the shiny silver 'zerk' fitting on the bottom of the outer tie rod end and push grease into the fitting. As you add grease it will cause the rubber boot to 'inflate' with grease. If it pops, you added too much.
      A grease gun and cartridges of grease are available at your local auto parts store. I use a Valvoline multipurpose grease in a red cartridge, but that's because it's what my dad used not because of any specific qualities.

      An alignment isn't necessary after this repair. +Big Sir

    Would a grinding sound when turning the steering wheel be an indicator of a bad tier rod?

    • @huntermoore2164
      @huntermoore2164 5 лет назад +1

      GAH I’m about to change my inner tie rods because of a loud clunking noise coming from turning left or right. Just take a look under the car while someone turns the wheel and pinpoint that noise.

    • @ElizabethGreene
      @ElizabethGreene 4 года назад +1

      Clunk or pop, maybe. Grinding, probably not.

    I replaced the inner and outer tie rods on my 05 magnum. I noticed that my new inner tie rods were about 1/16" shorter that the original ones and my outer tie rods were the same length. I put everything back together using the same turns on the nut and outer tie rod that I counted when I removed the original tie rods. My steering is now very tight and when I turn to the left or right it doesn't return easily, should I have compensated the turns for the difference in length with the new outer tie rods?

    My inner tie rod boots have been ripped for a good part of 2 years now. I’ve noticed black liquid around the exit point, does that mean the steering rack is bad? If not can I just remove the inner tie rod, clean the socket area that’s probably all sorts of dirty with brake clean, re lube, and then replace it with a new inner tie rod part?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 лет назад +1

      +Taj Laugan If it has been torn for two years there is a good chance the rack and pinion is failing. It could also just be grease and grime due to the grease being exposed to the elements.

    Could these cause a car to squeak when turning?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  5 лет назад +1

      +Elemeno Thanks for watching! They could cause some squeaking if they are on their way out, but you will likely have bad tire wear and clunky, uneven steering. 1aauto.com

    Is it important to add blue thread lock to the inner tie rod threads? Or is it not exactly necessary.

    • @1AAuto

      +adam burns Thank you for checking us out. It is highly recommended to ensure that the inner tie rod end doesn't become loosened while driving. 1aauto.com

    • @Acroposthion
      @Acroposthion 7 лет назад

      For that to happen, the outer-end (jam nut and rod end) would have to come loose first.

    • @skip741x3
      @skip741x3 7 лет назад +1

      Not necessarily, the inner tired end can loosen or rotate independently of the rod and outer end...the jam nut on the outer tired adjust can be snug and yet the inner tired End thats secured to rack can loosen..

  • @mikemanning6535
    @mikemanning6535 2 года назад

    Why does it matter how many turns for the jam nut? You are going to be tightening against the out tie rod anyway.

      My limiter didn't look like it was limiting much. It had a split in it and what ammount looked like the gap as probably only a 1/32 or less thick.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 года назад +1

      +SilentzTheWicked There could be many reasons why you are experiencing this. We would first want to confirm that you had an alignment done after replacing these parts, if so then we would suggest consulting with a local mechanic to determine what else is going on with your vehicle.
