4:45 is incorrect, Toronto Island was not man built, that would be the nearby Tommy Thompson Park which is connected to the mainland. It is similar to an island as the connection to the mainland is quite thin and the size of it extends outwards towards the lake. The city dumped massive amounts of construction waste such as rebar, concrete, bricks into the lake and built a park over it. Currently, Tommy Thompson Park is a bird and nature sanctuary for all types of animals. The Toronto Islands were once connected to the mainland by a sand bar, but it got swept away in a massive storm in 1858.
@@louisandchlo It's not surprising, a lot of Torontonians have never actually visited the islands or know the history of it. The tour guide was probably from north york.
Thank you. I came here to post a similar comment. The Toronto Islands were used by Indigenous Peoples for ceremonies for thousands of years and are considered sacred ground.
@@louisandchlo He made a mistake. They threw all the soil from excavation into the harbour, and it extended the shoreline out a LOT. But the islands are quite natural!
Loved it! Great job! I grew up near Toronto and visited often when I was a kid. The funny thing is, I never went to Toronto Islands until I was well into my 20's. The harbourfront area was still very industrial and hard to access 40 years ago. Also, when I was growing up, Lake Ontario was quite polluted, mostly due to poor sewage treatment. It really is a paradise now, and the lake water is much cleaner. Glad to see you enjoyed and you must visit my hometown of Kingston, where the Thousand Islands begin - but go in summer!!
Glad you enjoyed Brian! Yes Toronto Islands really are a paradise, we fee very lucky and can’t wait to visit again. We’ll definitely be coming back to Canada many times in the future and we’d love to visit Kingston and all the amazing lakes there!
Born and raised in Toronto and I love this city. Even going away up north or wherever for a bit I always miss Toronto at the end of the day and look forward going back to the craziness lol.
It’s such a great place! It’s been 6 months now since we were there and we’ve been to a lot of places since… but there’s just something very special about Toronto!
I love landing into Toronto and looking out the window in summer, seeing all the trees and ravine system across the city, it's a great tree canopy in this city.
I smoked a lot of weed in Toronto. Surely made me relax a lot more than I normally do when I travel. Normally I'm on edge the entire time I'm away from home but, in Toronto, I just kinda floated around the entire 5 days. Lol
Haha that is definitely a benefit we found from Toronto… floaty is the perfect word. Also across most of Canada & the US… but Toronto in particular was a very floaty city
Great video. As a Ukrainian Canadian I've never heard someone say perogie they way you did. Perogies are very common in Canada as Canada has the most people of Ukrainian origin outside of Ukraine.
No, the Toronto Islands are natural islands. Although at one time they were a peninsula. In i858 a strong storm created the eastern gap making the peninsula islands. Maybe you're thinking of the Leslie Street spit which was created with fill.
Hi new subscribers thanks for loving my city i think I need to view it like you did . 😂 Crazy I’ve lived here all my life and don’t appreciate it until I saw you did . I just did the Spadina house tour and posted it .Think I’ll add more of Toronto to my videos Loves Mama Brooke
Really enjoy the video! May I know which month this was taken?😍 We’re planning a honeymoon in late-June to July, and watching this video made it less daunting to plan it all.. the calm pace of taking things in really inspired me. Any recommendations or advice will be so appreciated ❤
there are 4 beaches on the Toronto islands one of which is a nude beach. The beaches are 1. Ward Island Beach 2. Centre Island Beach 3. Gibraltar Point Beach 4. Hanlan's Point Beach (Nude Beach)
The Toronto Islands were not originally man-made. Instead, they were formed hundreds of years ago by lakeside cliffs miles away eroding and the resulting silt gathered in the bay and formed the basis of the islands. However, much of the land where the small regional airport is was reclaimed from excavation debris, as was the Leslie Spit which is entirely man-made.
Haha, thank you Morgan… I think everyone in the UK thinks Canada is awesome to be honest! But until going, we didn’t know quite how awesome it really is!
I'm curious as to why you automatically expected MTL/QC to be hipstery or cool just because they're French speaking cities. Also, secret for English ppl: you can actually get a "full English" anywhere, without the mythological name. We just call it 3 eggs with meat, toast and potatoes etc.
@@louisandchlo You kind of have to take internet suggestions with a grain of salt, because people tend to aggrandize the city they live in and give it all sorts of imaginary qualities. Montreal has some really nice aspects, and the old touristy part of Ottawa is nice, but overall I think you made the best choice coming to Toronto!
Weed is legal, but as someone who lives just east, I find Toronto is a rat race. Being a tourist is chill. And ya, the weed helps if you partake but if you think Toronto is chill, then Montreal and Vancouver are horizonatal !
@@torontoash45 Toronto may not be the safest city in Ontario, but it is far from *dangerous*, especially by world standards. In fact, it is considered to be one of the safest major cities in the world!

You should do better research of your commentary. The Toronto islands were NOT created by dumping construction rubble. The islands are natural and one of the reasons that it formed a good natural harbour which was one of the considerations for the British both militarily and commercially. The waterfront WAS extended with rubble dumping, however, and that may be the source of your confusion.
@@louisandchlo Don't blame you one bit. I grew up on a suburb of Montreal on the West Island. As for the language issue, if you only plan on living there temporarily, it's not imperative that you know French, since roughly 1/4 of Montrealers are English-speaking and most French-Canadians there are fairly fluent in English.
