  • Hi my beautiful friends and welcome to my a week in my art studio! My name is Sydney, but some people call me The Blind Artisan because im a visually impaired artist I’m on a mission to chase my dreams to one day become the best artist that I can possibly be.
In the week’s vlog, I take you on a creative journey while working on my largest acrylic painting thus far! We also work on one digital art project as well! In this video, we talk about various things such as learning to trust your creative intuition, the beauty of finding inspiration from the world around you, the importance of taking artistic risks and so much more! So I encourage you to cozy up, grab your favorite drink, sketchbook and blanket, and let’s create together! I hope you enjoy the video! ❤️

lovely video, and lovely painting! I love how your hair and pet snake are similar color profiles - people really do look like their pets! also really liked the lesson you shared about the hands :) and now i am second-guessing my commitment to watercolor painting which is not at all forgiving like you express acrylic painting is... in watercolor, once the paint is down, there is no going back and i so often wish I could paint over or do over... there's a small window of opportunity to fix mistakes or re-do but not much. maybe i need to try acrylics again!

Ah!!! I’m so happy you enjoyed the video! 🥰
There is something so beautiful about watercolor painting! I have yet to be able to get my footing with it, but it has such a beautiful quality to it! I feel like with that medium, you have to plan a lot, but also have the ability to let go and adapt as you go! Maybe give acrylics a try again! Or even try using watercolor for some elements and acrylics for others! I feel like watercolors could give a beautiful quality to things like backgrounds and flowers, while allowing your subject matter to stand out with something heavier like acrylics!
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me! You’ll have to let me know if you give acrylics a try again!❤

The "hands thing", which was kind of driving me nuts watching this, is a good example of how we can sometimes get accustomed to something in our work which looks good to us but is objectively "off" in some way. Those are great moments to be open to constructive input, and then to reexamine our work with fresh eyes, all of which you did. I breathed a sigh of relief when you fixed the hands, because now the whole painting works, and it freely makes its point to the viewer without any distractions. I think I saw Shania Bo in Germany use tape as a hack for her issues with straight lines, on a painting which had TONS of straight lines. Brilliant move. Your process for creating your "water angel" in Procreate was pretty cool in its own right, a good reminder to just "play" to keep the juices flowing. Great, fun video!!

First and foremost, thank you so much for this lovely comment! I couldn’t agree more with what you said in regard to feeling like something is off in your piece, but not knowing what! The hands situation was definitely a learning lesson for me! It taught me to slow down, and the value of having a community that is open to giving constructive criticism! ☺️
And wow! I’ve never heard of Shania Bo, but I need to take a look at their work! The using tape to mask off certain areas is definitely something that I’m going to keep trying to implement in my pieces going forward! I’m quite new to painting traditionally and I can’t help but feel so amazed for how many tricks there are to help make the process more smooth!
Thank you again for this lovely comment! And thank you so much for watching my little video! It really means the world! ❤
