    Today I'm showing you all how to setup the new Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip I've also created a demo to show off how the colors react on the strip in accordance with what's on the screen. Ive been waiting for this to arrive, I initially ordered it on September 3rd and it finally arrived yesterday. I was super excited fo this as I really loved my original light strip from Philips. Do note that in order to sync this you will need a Philips Hue Play Hdmi Sync Box and the Philips Hue Bridge. Also do note that each size this comes in (55in,65in,75in) it will work with a TV thats up to five inches larger, theres a center marker on the strip and if it doesn't align don't worry I'll show you all how to make minor adjustments to get this to work. I really hope you all find this video helpful and if you do be sure to give it a thumbs up. Thanks for the info! Setting mine up tomorrow. Never had hue before this, so the expense just to get the gradient light strip for the TV is pretty high (since you also need the Philips Hue bridge, too). Overall it’s like $590 after CA taxes at Best Buy! In my case though I’m adding 3x spotlights in the living room too. Should be pretty interesting having lights all around you synchronizing w/ the television in real time.

      @@QasimZafar We started out with Ikea Tradfri but quickly moved to Philips Hue due to issues of losing connection with the lights and the movement detectors often failed to detect any movement even if you waved your hand in front of them. So the GU10 lights often lost connection and that ment having to stand on top of the dining table in order to get to the light fixture with the 5 lamps and sync them all to a remote one by one, and every time the bridge lost power the connection was lost again. I felt this was too dangerous to have to do each time, and it was just a pain in the ass too.
      The movement detects I had setup in the hallway on the ground floor and upstairs, so that if someone goes to the toilet at night half asleep they will have light in order to prevent falling down the stairs. Which is something you have to rely on blindly and it just has to work but it didn't, and with every device update it got worse and worse with the detection.
      Philips never gave any issues at all. Easy setup no matter what and they just do their job without fault, and you can simply trust them to be there doing their job. Like an everyday family wide used daily necessity should behave.
      So it might cost a little more but the quality of the programming of the devices and the quality of the hardware inside is simply worth it. Especially if you want something that is "set and forget". Which I do as I want an entertaining and useful addition to the house rather than an extra chore as the Ikea experience was.

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  2 года назад

      @LogiForce86 - I myself haven’t tried the ikea brand but I have tried many alternatives for rgb bulbs and I must agree with you that hue is the most reliable. With many other brands I often have issues of connectivity but with my hue bulbs and strips I’ve never once had to worry about anything, everything just works. The price is expensive but it’s because the product is solid and many cheaper alternatives will save you money but won’t come with the same reliability. I love hue products and recommend them to all of my friends and family that are looking to go the rgb lighting route. Thanks for your input and for watching, I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

    Hi bro, really enjoyed this video. I have a question. I have a 75" Samsung and it comes with a no gap wall mount, which leaves minimal amount of space between the TV and the wall. I believe there's enough space for the light strip. However, do you think that the lighting effect will be ruined if it is not spaced from the wall by a decent amount? What are your thoughts? Appreciated in advance, thanks

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  3 года назад

      @Sohail Amir - Hey bro thank you for watching and the feedback I really appreciate it! You should be good as even with my tv there’s a very little gap and what’s nice about the gradient strip is that it’s designed to beam outward as opposed to towards the wall. The lightning effect is much better with this strip and I really love the fact that they designed it this way so you’ll be good to go 😊.

    Hi there, I've got a 70" TV on my wall at the moment with the old Philips hue light strips behind it however one of the strips the lights in one part keep going off and they're also held on by some ties which gently stick to the back of the TV (I didn't want to stick the whole adhesive on the strips to my TV as I heard they're hard to remove), however I really like the brackets that come with this to hold the strips with, it's very cool.
    But I wanted to ask, as I have two strips at the moment, one goes round the top and the other goes round the bottom, bare in mind my TV is mounted on my wall like your custom demo part but with having no strip across the bottom, does it look odd there without no light or not?
    Do you recommend me only having the one strip like yours? (Maybe top and bottom strips I shouldn't have been doing?), again its a 70" TV which is why I thought I needed a strip on the top and the bottom 😊
    Thank you so much for being so kind to reply 😊🙏🏼

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  9 месяцев назад

      @The90sTunnel - you can totally do what you’re saying with using two light strips, both one at the top one at the bottom, but another thing that you could do is use the light bars instead at the bottom that’s another way that people do it. I personally haven’t had any issue with the bottom just being empty simply because my sound bars there right underneath my TV and for me I don’t know it just hasn’t bothered me.

I was wondering though, if I just want to have ambiance lighting around my TV, is there a better Hue product that you recommend? in other words, I do not plan on using the Sync aspect. Found this: from the beginning of the Lightstrip a cable of about 15cm leads to the controller, which in turn is 5cm long and has a connection for the power cable on the opposite side. This is 150cm long and leads to the power supply unit which is plugged directly into the socket. (150cm + 15cm + 5cm =170cm or roughly 67"/5.5ft)
      You can also use the 5 meters (16.4ft) long Hue Play extension cable to extend the cable length to 6.5 meters (21.3ft)

      @rpisharodi - Hey thank you first of all for not only watching my video but then also giving me feedback, it’s truly appreciated. Yes this will most definitely work, what I love more about this gradient strip as opposed to the original lightstrip is the fact that it’s designed to beam light outward so for wall mounted TV’s you’re not going to loose any light. Mine is also pretty close to the wall and with the original lightstrip I lost a lot of the output but with this it’s designed perfectly and is even brighter. Hope this helps and thanks again 🙏🏽😊. Nice video / demo. I'm considering investing in this Hue gradient system but just off past experience I previously bought a Philips Hue lightstrip and brightness levels was way below expectations. Do you consider the Hue gradient lightstrip a better upgrade or do you think it needs the additional lighting accessories to give it the full effect?

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  3 года назад +2

      Hi Gary thank you for watching and I appreciate the feedback! So I’ve had the previous strip which you can see in my hdmi box video and though this one has the same output the light output is brighter I actually use this at a lower brightness then the previous strip. The previous strip laid flat and shined out towards the wall whereas this one is designed with the light on the edges and shines outward therefore definitely giver better output since light isn’t lost in reflecting off the wall. So just on it’s own this strip does a better job with brightness! Hope this helps in your decision!

    I was hoping you could help answer question for me. I have a 5.1.4 surround system. Through a marantz 6012 receiver. Which is 9.2 channels. I have my Sony A9G plugged into the receiver and everything else into the receiver. Including an Xbox of PlayStation and a Blu-ray player. And then I have streaming capability on my TV also. I was hoping you could help me on how to hook the sync box up since I'm using a receiver. Is there a way to integrate it in. So everything that I play through my receiver will sync with the sync box and the lights. I'm really hoping you can help me with this or anyone else that maybe reads this. Also what suggestions do you have for extra lights besides the 75-in gradient strip since it doesn't cover underneath the TV only around.?

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  3 года назад

      @Jason Bovey - Hey thanks for writing in, in your setup what’s best is keep everything hooked into the receiver. Then from the out port of receiver take an hdmi and connect it to one of the inputs on the box. Then from out port of box take a cable to the TV. That should work as I’ve helped a few people that have setups like yours. Also for filling in the empty space you could go with the hue play bars...they come in a set of two and that should be more than enough. Also if you’d like you can email me at qizafar1@gmail.com and I can help guide you through the setup. Hope this helps you out and thank you so much for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊

    @Qasim Zafar. Great review totally enjoyed watching this. I have 2 questions I'm hoping you might be able to help are give guidance as every set up will be somewhat different. I have the Gradient light strip plus I decided to get the Play bars also. I got the sync box and have an existing bridge. So I'm all setup but her's my 2 questions. What in your opinion is the best distance to keep your TV from the wall. (TV is 55 inch OLED C1) but on a TV stand ? 2nd question that I've looked all over RUclips and can't find a video covering this. When I connect the strips and light bars I want everything to go behind my TV no bars to the side are. So when I'm setting this up is let's just say I have colors on the strips Blue and Red it can be any different colors 3 different colors on the strips will I get the same colors on my bar's as I don't want the whole thing to go completely crazy on me. I'M hoping you will be able to give even a starting point. The fact the TV is not walk mounted gives me greater flexibility. Again thank you, great information and great content your channel is putting out, IE your videos are of a high stendard

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  2 года назад +1

      @Pat Falvey - First of all thank you so much for the feedback I really appreciate it. So my TV is about 4 inches away from the wall but in your case since it’s not wall mounted you’ll have more of a distance which honestly won’t do any harm. As far as the lights setup id say mount the strip just like I’ve done and then you can place two bars at the bottom to fill the dark area. When you go about syncing content the light strip will automatically display multiple colors and the play bars will be reflecting the colors on the lower portion of the TV. Make sure when you setup that all the positions of the lights are accurate in the app so that it can reflect accurately when syncing. I hope this helps in giving you the info you need, if you have any other questions feel free to reach out. Thanks again for the feedback I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

Just like the question I asked I'm pretty sure others who watch reviews in order to help us make decisions on if a item (product) will work in our situations if you went and taught about people who wouldn't have a set up that you normally would only show in your review, the more information potential people will come and subscribe to your channel. I ask because I will be getting a sync box soon and want to get the with advice from someone that knows.

      @QasimZafar  3 года назад

      Hi Robert first of all thank you for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽. Lined up to the bottom like you have will be perfect. This strip has been redesigned and outputs light at an angle instead of previously where it was flat and banged towards the wall. This does a better job with output and you don’t lose light like before behind the TV. So I would say that the way you did the setup you’ll be good to go for sure 😊. Hope this helps Robert!

Try the search otherwise try putting in the serial number instead.

On the Xbox make sure you have the cable connected to the out port, then connect that cable to one of the in ports of the sync box and last but not least take a cable from out port of sync box to an in port of the TV.

    Because where I live this light fixture is quite expensive but I do love the Philip's range, and I don't own a sync box so I'll need to get both products but I'm guessing if it's worthwhile it's worthwhile.

  • @AndreuPinel
    @AndreuPinel 2 года назад +1

    Really nice video, but I have a few doubts maybe you can clarify:
    1) You mention that you need the huesync box, but does it also work with the huesync application for Windows? (I hope it does, because right now I use it with my TV and monitor - with "standard" hue bulbs though, not with this gradient lightstrip - plus different computers, HTPC... and this lightstrip would not be an option if I had to buy a huesync box for each screen/computer in the house).
    2) Could you provide the power supply specifications regarding the output part? (voltage, amperage, polarity of the connector, diameter of the connector). I really hope it is 5V (and ~2A max), so I can use the TV as its power supply via the USB (like I already do with the Chromecast in one of the "dumbTV" in the house and the philips bridge with the one of router's USB). Right now all the power sockets next to my main TV are already in use, and using a power-splitter is not an option because the TV is wall-mounted, and adding a power-splitter would make the TV hit against it.
    Thank you very much.

      @Andreu Pinel - Yes you’ll need the box for synching on a tv but for the hue sync app you don’t need to have it. As far as the power on the adapter, I’m away from the house so I’ll have a look when I get back and then tell ya. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

      @@QasimZafar
      Thanks a lot.
      Regarding the hue sync app, just in case and for avoiding misunderstandings, I am NOT referring to the Android/iOS app. I am talking about the one for Windows/Mac. The two applications (mobile/computer) have the same name (a huge mistake from Philips imho), but while the mobile app is used for controlling the hue sync box, the computer application is used to transform the computer itself into a huesyncbox; which, unfortunately, cannot be controlled at all other than with the mouse/keyboard (plus the fact that this "computer-syncbox" can only be used as syncbox with the content played from the very same computer and not from external DVD/BR/console HDMI devices). The good side is that it is completely free, so if you have computers with Windows/Mac for watching movies/series and playing games (like I have), you don't need the syncbox... at least not with the "normal" bulbs. My doubt was if the computer application also worked as a "virtual" syncbox with the gradient strip as it does with the bulbs, but according to this link it works: www.reddit.com/r/Hue/comments/pqolpe/sync_multipl_ecolors_with_new_hue_gradient/
      Regarding my second point, according to what I have found in google, the output of the gradient-strip's power supply is 24V 0.83A (= ~20W), which would spoil my plan about using the TV's USB for powering the strip (which only delivers 5V 2A = 10W)
      Nevertheless, if you could confirm the two points (especially the second, which I found in a non-very trustful web) - or correct the wrong one(s) - it would be great🥳.
      Thank you very much

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  2 года назад +1

      @Andreu Pinel - I totally understand what you’re trying to do but unfortunately you’re not going to be able to power the light strip with a usb cord. Sorry for the delay of my response as I was out of town and didn’t want to misinform you. On the bright side if you can resolve the power issue than you’ll be able to set this up with the computer sync app without having to buy the sync box. I’d say hi through the trouble of taking down the tv to get yourself more space for a power strip that can accommodate an additional port.

      @Christopher Columbus - Behind my TV, it fit with the amount of a gap I have between my wall mount and where the TV sits.

    Hate that it doesn't cover the bottom. Does this product give you the option to just set it as a backlight without any synchronization?

      @MYKEL V - Yeah that is definitely a downside for sure. Yes you can use this without sync but you won’t get a gradient effect with it. Hope this helps and thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

      @@QasimZafar thanks for the response. What do you mean by gradient affect? I currently use the regular hue strip lights as a TV backlight, as in it's just steadily on warm white setting.

      @MYKEL V - What I mean is that this light strip has different zones that can change color but unless you’re actively syncing content it’s just going to stay a solid color. Unless you’re planning on syncing content like I do I’d say just stick to the light strip you have now. I do have the new gradient strip that just came out which I’m working on reviewing at the moment and that is definitely a much better option.
