When I started off in basic, I was trained on the FN C1, wore '84 pattern webbing with steel pot helmet and an '82 pattern rucksack. When I left, I had a C8 rifle, Cadpat uniform, tactical vest and Kevlar helmet. At the time we didn't appreciate how innovative the gear was; like the Elcan sights when most armies were still using iron sights; or the digital pattern camouflage that the USMC ripped off from us. But still, my favorite pieces of kit (which I kept after leaving): the '84 pattern webbing, a '64 pattern ruck, and my black rubber air mattress which helped me sleep comfortably in exercises that were well below -40.

Glad they use calibers now if your a short stocky guy who lives in the weight room...Never had probs on our runs or load bearing walks. In my case...shuffles
There is nothing wrong with the Browning HP. The ones you guys have are old and the mag safety is operationally wrong. They are thin and the mag is adequate. I own a former Canadian HP, slotted and with tangent rear sight. Hands and feet MUST be protected. Gloves, good boots, and socks. Pamper the UPCs (Unarmored Personnel Carriers) with foot powder in hot areas. Adequate looking kit. The 203 adds weight (with the rounds) but the distance touch is nice. A lot different than the gear I used in the old days of RVN. Thanks for the show and tell.
As for the roll you pointed out. Just a comment the little extra that might be there is stored energy. I have seen men come out of the field as much as 15lbs less than when they went out and that is a single outing lasting a single day.
"Budget Cuts" is the Canadian Forces motto. That said, new gear is in development/adoption along with a new camouflage pattern based on Multicam. Maybe we'll get rid of our 1980s gear in the next few years.
It is interesting to see the equipment issued to the force protection guys in the CAF. The Canadian Army has always punched above its weight in combat situations. I would like to see our soldiers outfitted in the most effective and efficient kit available. Perhaps the wars in Ukraine and Israel will be a wake up call to our government. Large scale near peer conflict is a real possibility and we should adequately equip our troops for that eventuality.
My comment comes from a bit of a tangent but I think it is relevant. I understand all branches are having trouble recruiting. I am also led to believe the CF (and I understand the Americans as well) are trying to sanitize their recruiting advertisements to be in line with modern ("woke") sensibilities. I think the kind of content your posting would be incredibly effective as a recruiting tool. Basically, long form content showing guys doing cool, hard shit with great gear. It comes across as much more genuine, sincere and accurate than the "official" stuff that's produced and released. Anyway, just a thought.
You always will have people who will bitch about equipment, regardless. Then you have others that always have to put down the CAFs and equipment is always their number one target. More so if they always use the US as a measure, with their massive military budget and powerful MIC. Newer and fancier is not always better. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I personally think CAF does a good balance on equipment considering life spans of equipment and how as that life span ends, issues can arise as the process to replace it is in the works. I have worked with many NCOs who are proud that the CAF doesn't need all the brand new fancy gear the US uses. They always saw it as the person and training was more important then the gear, within reason of course.
Matt When unloading you need to release the slide on the hi power BEFORE you put the mag in. If you do that it doesn't matter if the mag is bombed up. That said I do agree that the magazine disconnect is a dumb idea.
Touching on the first bit about image, which i thought was a little odd but you could be the meanest leanest looking guy and still be out ran by an overweight woman, it all boils down to who has the strongest mind and who can push through being uncomfortable

@@dvergar1 cool, thanks!
A bit o chunk is good, you look like a healthy Canadian farm boy Matt.
to reinforce your point on fitness, we need both in the forces, the skinny guy that fits everywhere and can reach anywhere because you can basically throw him 6ft up the compound wall and the guy that you put a ruck on and he just never stops...like...never...with 2 c6's and a carlo. Resilience, endurance and having the strenght of each other complement the unit and everybody can carry their own kit and some more then we good.
Most Browning Hi Power owners have the magizine disconnect removed.

That laser is a PAQ4C Its a really low power laser and only for engaging. Its only .7mW as opposed to the PEQ2 which is 50mW in the "deployment" setting.
You don't need to insert the magazine to drop the hammer, you can insert a finger. Of course, if your drills say otherwise there's not much you can do.
I could never reach that far up
When I started off in basic, I was trained on the FN C1, wore '84 pattern webbing with steel pot helmet and an '82 pattern rucksack.
We didn't really rip you off, we paid you for the right to use it

Hey buddie, what I was told when BMI came out. I GOTS THE YUR STRONG AS A BULL. But I had to lose weight because like the Peri said. bad for your ticker.
I appreciate you selected a video with a Quebecois. Sometimes people forget there is 2 official languages in Canada.
9:27 You can release it without the magazine in the well, that is if you have longer fingers than a 9 year old.
As for the roll you pointed out. Just a comment the little extra that might be there is stored energy. I have seen men come out of the field as much as 15lbs less than when they went out and that is a single outing lasting a single day.
Lol what was that camelback psst psst psst part? I must have watched that 15 times and laughed everytime.
Still not using plate carriers? Pretty old gear honestly for a 1st world military. Although considering the government there, doesn't surprise me.
"Budget Cuts" is the Canadian Forces motto. That said, new gear is in development/adoption along with a new camouflage pattern based on Multicam. Maybe we'll get rid of our 1980s gear in the next few years.
@@pakman184 Here's to hoping mate!
@@pakman184 "new gear is in development" Yep. It always is. Then it gets cancelled.
Nice resume👍
Last I knew, we lost our Assault Pioneers to provide man hours to the Special Ops Forces.
I hope he doesn't plan to draw that pistol in any sort of hurry. With his medical kit sitting over top of the holster he isn't getting to it quickly.
Anyway, just a thought.
ya, I think you hit the nail on the head. Matisums was featured on Canadian army podcast.
Cobra Buckles are so much better. I agree with that belt
Do not underestimate the importance of a notepad and pencil. Memory is fallible.
That m203 isn’t mounted properly on that C8…… where the Fuk is the guard????
ADF also hates the Browning Hipower. the master of ND's
Not if you do the drills correctly, there are better systems now though.
Should be getting replaced soonish, among a whole heap of other new weapons.
Can you do a video on ear muffs?
Wouldn't it be better to have pants with laces facing inside, no loop belts, and then wearing a belt/battle belt on top if you need it?
Compare the safety of the High-Power to the more modern G19. The Glock safety is not pulling the trigger..
Are those "Browning Hi Powers" the Inglis pistols we made in ww2 and have been pulling out of crates ever since ?
That would explain why you still have them when the Brits ditched their clapped-out ones in 2013.
On the chunk stuff, just cut off the Tim Horton's and the Coffee Crisp 😛

When unloading you need to release the slide on the hi power BEFORE you put the mag in.
If you do that it doesn't matter if the mag is bombed up.
That said I do agree that the magazine disconnect is a dumb idea.
Sounds like he did as you suggested it is archaic but if proper drills are used perfectly safe.
@@khlah0710 I agree but a weapon system where a minor sequence fault in the drills can result in potentially deadly consequences is a poor design IMO.

You can transfer between multiple military forces within Commonwealth nations.
