These guys are apparently tier 1 SF. Doesn’t surprise me at all... These Canadians man, they’re lovely folk! The most polite people I’ve ever met. Though I would also describe them using the words rugged AF, and I believe that to be a huge understatement lol! When the world calls for help, they answer the call immediately! Through history, Canada's had a reputation of being absolutely vicious in combat (they literally didn't take prisoners during war). Also JTF2 hold the current record for longest sniper kill, at over 3 km.

The cousin of my friend was in a terrible plain crash in norther Quebec toundra in the winter, a decade ago, in the middle of nowhere (nothing for hundreds of kilometers). By pure chance JTF2 was arctic training a few kilometers away and were able to save the survivors. Had JTF2 not been there, everyone would have died due to the cold. She said she woke up to people in snow camouflage, pulling her out of the plain wreckage, and it was quite a sight with their gear like in the promo video. The effectiveness and rapidity of the team saved her and the other survivors.

Adolf Hitler said give me the Royal Navy and the German army and I will conquer the world. Winston Churchill could be quoted hundreds of times over, but I have never heard that one, and given the fact that the Canadian army at that time was basically the British Army then it would be a foolish quote. The way JTF 2 came into the limelight was when an image was leaked from an op in Afghanistan... Back then, even the Prime Minister didn't know they were deployed
JTF-2 has existed since the late '80s/early '90s, but its existence was unknown until after 9/11.
@@DJones476 my understanding is that in the 80s and early 90s the Canadian tier 1 unit was the RCMP’s SERT team. In 92 SERT was deactivated and JTF2 was activated in early 93.

The RCMP still maintains its emergency response teams, though.
The Canadian military had to come up with something...anything, really...to replace the disbanded Canadian Airborne Regiment, as long as it was of equal or better tier.

My son was tasked to be support personal for a jtf2 Jtac training exercise when he had just graduated from basic. He spent 2 weeks in Wainwright AB being a gopher for these guys,lol. When I asked how he was treated , he said they were amazing, he was a "no hook" private fresh out of basic and treated him and his 3 colleagues as team members. So calm , cool,and respectful to everyone. No bravado, no macho bullshit. But when the switch got turned on,lookout. It formed in him a deep sense of honour and call to duty . He said when they flew out (civilian airline, lol in civvies) people just stared at the 16 of them. He said you would never know what these guys are ,but you could tell there was something VERY different about them. Taught him a valuable lesson about being a professional. Thanks giving our Canadian boys some love.
I prefer the not being too macho and trying too hard to be tough, it's easier to relate to people who don't act like that. I have a lot of veteran friends and one of them just gets too caught up on being macho and proving himself. Love the guy but it gets annoying sometimes I already know he's a tough dude he has nothing to prove. When it comes to friends I don't think having to feel like it's always a competition to be manly is much fun. Glad your son met some good dudes there who taught how to be humble and professional it'll definitely make life easier and better for him in the future.
I have respect for these types of people learning to be humble about what you do when it's impressive can be challenging for some.

He would have been part of a "personel awaiting training" troop and under the supervision of a seperate entity altogether, attached to the jtf2 exercise. I get that you're trying to make these guys look good by saying they're friendly, non-macho dudes, and i appreciate that, but these guys are some of the best soldiers in the world. They are cocky, macho, killers. And god bless them.

The "JTF-2" specific vid, the whole thing was just an exercise. The folks standing by PM Harper are just regular sailors. JTF-2 never have their faces shown on camera ever. Hell even within the military they are never clearly identified.
The blurred maritime soldiers were JTF2.

@@joemeatballs3694 not just on the hill. I’ve seen them in civilian clothes and civilian plated vehicles in Pet, and Meaford numerous times.
Had a co-worker who was on JTF2. Without revealing any names he told me a couple of stories one day when we met with a few of his buddies from the military. Very intense and dangerous. He suffers PTSD and anxiety and it eventually broke up his marriage. These soldiers and their families sacrifice so much for our freedom and safety. Although things are improving a little, we still do not treat them well enough when they come home. Especially when they are forced to retire early due to injuries on duty or after serving. I was a cadet when I was younger , but did not get the opportunity to serve as I could not pass the medical to become a pilot. I have the deepest respect and gratitude for those who did go on to serve, and serve today. I am also proud that one of my daughter's works as an ECE for Kingston Military Families Resource Centre. Those who work to support our military and our military families deserve our support.

JTF2 frequently works with the US Delta Force and Seal Team 6 as well as the British SAS and SBS. They are highly trained operators whose existence wasn’t known about until a few years ago. Even now I can guarantee that unless you served in the Canadian Armed Forces most Canadians still aren’t aware of it. They are trained for land, sea and air ops. Interesting trivia; a JTF2 member holds the record for the worlds longest kill shot.

I was at a party in Vancouver at a fund raiser, saw this dude helping
outside ..started talking to him..
He was a former Canadian soldier and served in Afghanistan combat opps,
he had some issues in crowded spaces.
Anyways he told me they were sent to deal with tricky situations and he told
me the Afghans feared Canadians the most..small army but deadly.
Its a history we have always had..first troops dropped behind German lines on D-day,
they feared the Canadians as well.
Most Canadian guys i know are very friendly and first to help someone out..

Guys in the background arent JTF2, they are Royal Canadian Navy. The crests on the jackets are Ships Crests. JTF2 aren't allowed to show their faces on camera, mainly as a safety measure.
I had a a self defense course while in the airforce taught by a JTF guy.

Years ago I used to bug my brother (now retired after 34 years of service with the RCN and RCAF) about the Canadian JTF. He used to grin at me and say..nah...that is just fantasy. Until I discovered AFTER he retired from the RCAF that he was actually doing the co-ordination on the ground for these guys...

JTF2 are crazy! They don't rely on technology as much as a lot of modern SF. They just get the job done.
I remember a few years ago when Trump decided Canadian aluminum & steel was a security threat that justified an illegal import tariff, a US army general commented that whenever he asked his men who they wanted to fight alongside with, the answer was always the same: the Canadians. The video before the news report was a video released by the Department of National Defence.
The footage of the fellow at the podium is our former PM addressing Navy members.
During a rotation to Afghanistan a picture was released by the media of a JTF-2 Assaulter with a Taliban POW prior to them being transferred to the US Military.
Until then the Government would not admit the unit existed to the public.
They also earned a Presidental Citation by George Bush for their efforts in Afghanistan.
Jtf2 is not just maritime. They are an all around unit. They are tasked with homeland security. They also have the best snipers in the world. The own 3 out of the top five longest killshots. One of which is number 1
Rob Furlong who owns one of those longest kills was not JTF2. He was part of PPCLI regiment ina reconnaissance unit.

You don't have a clue; there are many snipers that were top snipers in the Canadian Forces but couldn't pass selection....so you base your theory on 3 guys lol...You do realize it took one guy 5 shots to walk his rounds onto the target...that not what I would call the best lol...

We became a country in 1867, well after 1812 ... sort of. The Dominion of Canada... still a colony. We celebrate 1867, but didn't have our own constitution until 1982. The Brits burned down the White House in retaliation for the burning of York (Toronto) which was then our capital.

The Bruce Willis movie: Tears Of The Sun, is based on a JTF2 Mission, from a former member who wanted the story told, they just changed locations from Colombia to Africa and from JTF2 to US Navy Seals because the missions are classified.

This reminds me of an article I read where some Canadians were being held hostage in a Peruvian embassy by some terrorist group. The minute the terrorists heard that JTF2 were on their way, they let all the hostages go and simply disappeared.

The military's plan called for the main commando force to be flown in a Canadian Forces aircraft as a kind of "modern-day Trojan Horse," Mr. Taylor and Mr. Nolan write. According to the book, when the Tupac Amaru guerrillas boarded the Canadian aircraft as part of a deal for safe passage, they would be most vulnerable to a surprise attack and could be ambushed by the commandos. News reports at the time suggested that Canadian troops would be used to guarantee safe passage for the guerrillas to Cuba or another country.
When negotiations for Canada to provide safe passage for the guerrillas failed, the JTF2 plan was aborted. The guerrillas were holding their hostages in an attempt to force the Peruvian government to release Tupac Amaru members held in prison. The hostage drama ended when Peruvian commandos swarmed into the Japanese ambassador's home, killing all 14 guerrillas in the attack and rescuing the hostages. The Peruvian commandos were being advised by members of the British Special Air Service, one of the elite units that Joint Task Force 2 regularly co-operates with.

My father was a member of joint task force. Military veteran hardcore guy. He’s currently in rough health due to liver failure but I have soo many stories and pictures of my father. He worked with delta and SAS operatives. The force is so secretive. He would get a page and he couldn’t tell my mom where he was going had to grab his rucksack and hop on the Apache to the base for briefings. Wouldn’t see the guy for 2 years at one point. Bad father but an amazing soldier.
Early 80s to late 90s Somalia event back in 92 really fucked him up. Didn’t come back the same his days in the airborne regiment were fuckin insane stories too. Commando 1 pro Patria

In WWI the German nickname for Canadians was "Sturmtruppen" stormtroopers. Canada has a battle proven record of excellence.

The Sick rifle you saw is likely a Macmillan TAC-50. It's Canada's largest bore Sniper/Anti-Materiel rifle. And also what was used in at least one of our Sniping records recently.
Also,JTF2 is specifically our Counter-Terrorism unit. Canadian Special Forces overall is CANSOFCOM, and the general purpose Special Forces are CSOR.

My cousin was the General of the Armed Forces at around this time, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff. I actually kept my last name after getting married and one day, while at a hospital in Ontario where I now live, a doctor who had served under him asked me if I was any relation to the General (he probably recognized my East Coast accent by then too) and I said “yep, he’s my cousin from the same tiny town I’m from, he was in the same class and was best friends with my oldest brother in high school”. He then said “I’d better keep my heels together then” or something to that effect. I don’t really know what that means exactly but I imagine it was a show of respect for the General. When my cousin retired, he moved back to our same little town. He still does a lot of work though. I don’t think someone like him can ever really retire completely. (Ps. His mom was a dress maker and made my Grade 12 grad dress. Sadly, both of his parents have passed now but they were great people.)

I was born in 1960, so I grew up with Viet Nam on the nightly news. I have never served in the military myself, but I want all who do to know how deeply they are appreciated. I imagine that most who serve feel it as a calling. I see it as an extremely selfless act.

JTF2 is next level. I had a mate who was "OPFOR" for in a training event. They were defending a building.. well dynamic entry time. @@FIORGOBASAUDEAMUS nope, the guys with the gas masks are CJIRU, the CAF's CBRN specialists. JTF2 is one unit of CANSOFCOM, they don't do everything. CSOR is lower tier like army rangers, there's JTFX also, which are the human intelligence handlers

I was one of the weapons techs that was part of the turn over team that turned your M-16 into the C-7 and now the C-8. We were using the FNA1C1-7.72 mm.

Canadian Forces vet here. I enjoyed watching you, watching our people. I can remember losing my footing and dropping like a sack of potatoes. But you bounce and get moving again. If you don't, someone is going to shoot your sorry ass! I have a deep respect for special forces everywhere; they are a breed apart. We used to say, the merely difficult we'll get done immediately. For the impossible, give us a couple of hours. But these guys really do it. Be safe out there young fellow.

Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR);
427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron (SOAS);
Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit (CJIRU);
I met a JTF2 door breacher by luck. What an amazing dude, more than happy too talk about some things, could of listened to the stories all day. Gave some good advice.

In the 80s we had the maroon beret airborne regiment, after an incident in Somalia they were disbanded and they returned to their mother units and formed airborne platoons within their respective regiments. JTF was an experiment to bring some of the airborne back together and tighten training and security. It was so successful it was then turned into JTF2 which is a much larger scale operation and encompasses all 3 arms of the military. Air/Sea/Land, they do it all....extremely well. Cudos boys.

JTF2 was formed in 1993 before the Airborne Regt was disbanded. The airborne was axed 1

@@charliesw1234 you must be thinking of COH Craig Harrison, he holds the 3rd longest shot now at 2475m in nov 2009. 2nd place is an Australian SF sniper at 2815m on April 2, 2012. 1st place is the JTF2 sniper who’s shot was 3540m off a high rise building in Mosul, helping the Iraqi and peshmerga forces liberate the west side of the city during the Iraqi civil war. 4th and 5th place longest shots are also held by Canadian snipers from 3rd battalion, princess patricias Canadian light infantry

I was a cook for 18 years. Served with 1PPCLI, SOF and Subs. It was a great time while it lasted.
My father was an engineer in the navy and this lines up with many of his stories of days past.
How his entire ship could be technically run by just a few men from each section.

No not everyone can do the job of others....they might be assigned to section base teams, but many can't do the job......example; women as ship board firefighters, thats a no go, they can't pull their weight...... or women being part of the Boarding parties again they sucked at it.....hell most of the navy guys can't even climb the cargo nets they are so out of shape and over weight....
Okay, so I mean this with no offence but it’s clear you don’t have much experience working with your northern neighbours but I shall clarify a few things for you!
1.) the first video is three different CANSOFCOM units. Each with their own speciality and how they are used.
The guys who do the fast moving repel are CJIRU, these guys are our CBRN special forces operators.
The guys in the dessert, and winter warfare kit, and divers are JTF2, everything else is CSOR.
JTF2 is defined as a surgical instrument and CSOR is our blunt hammer.
The guys in the background behind Stephen Harper talking are Navy Personnel.
yup 427 SOA squadron out of Petawawa, flew quite a few out of there back in the late 80's and early 90's. It's changed quite a bit since then, added 450 Tactical squadron since and turned the small lonely Squadron HQ area into a small city.

The action that brought JTF2 into the limelight happened in the early 2000s in Afghanistan where a JTF2 sniper made the then longest ever shot on an insurgent of over a mile if I recall correctly. That has since been surpassed but the top spot is still held by a Canadian Forces member from Iraq during the offensive against ISIS where the Canadians were supporting the Iraqi military.
I've only seen a few of the Canadian reviews. I'm not in the military but my Grandfather fought in WW2 for Canada. Cheers buddy I loved the 2 videos I've seen. Liked and subscribed. More Canadian vids please lol
'96 in Petawawa had a poster going into the mess hall, about i pictures of these guys rappelling, going through airplanes, selection ruck march, and other ones I forget. At the bottom of the poster all the writing had was a question "Are you up for it?" And a phone # !

Jtf2 are basically our modern day airborne units since the scandals in the Somalia missions and some hazing scandals caused the airborne to be disbanded
CSOR is the modern Canadian Airborne Regiment equivalent.
@@ArmouredPhalanx You're right in that CSOR was the eventual replacement for CAR (Canadian airborne regiment) after it was disbanded in 1995 and that jtf2 while fully parachute capable, is not restricted to only airborne operations but do all around combined land, air and sea operations!
Also we do have other fully parachute capable airborne units, like 3rd battalion of the RCR (Royal Canadian Regiment) in regular force and an airborne capable battalion with Queen's own rifles of Canada regiment in primary reserve!
