"My Great Danes found the possum on the fence, I got them away from her and named her Pricilla. I also contacted a local wildlife rehabilitation to see if they could find her to help her with her eye! Turns out Pricilla is healing well and didn’t need to be traumatized by being picked up."

Damn, so much hate this woman is getting for how she’s talking to this opossum. She’s just compassionate and friendly and loves animals, she’s not hurting anyone. Maybe you’re all jealous because no one talks to you sweetly.
I wasn't annoyed by her talking as much as her clearly freaking this opossum out while it is carry its babies along the fence. She is playing dead and terrified to move.
@@xjcrossx I understand, but she didn’t approach them aggressively. I’m sure she left them alone, they’re probably fine.
@xlxcrossxlx if she had been playing dead, she would have fallen to the ground because it's not something they do purposely but as a reaction to fear. She was actually holding her mouth open to show her teeth. You know because she is drooling in the first part of the video.
@@xavierthomas5835 you just taught me that they don't do it on purpose. I of course looked it up to make sure, but I had no idea..thought they were just being clever lol. So that makes sense she wouldn't fall. But you can tell that she was scared and in a dangerous spot for her and her babies so my comment is still legit.
@xlxcrossxlx sorta legit. it would also be ignoring the fact that the mom very well have needed medical attention to her eye, the fact that the woman commonly knows the opossum to play in her leaves would give her the right to check in on the creatures every once in a while, and that people that are angry with someone using baby speak with an animal, even if the animal is afraid of them, should go sue every single rescue worker in the world for being inconsiderate to animals. It's just intolerance that comes from a lack of introspection.

Be kind to Opossums! These wonderful animals have a live & let live doctrine regarding our companion animals and are our best friends when it comes to pest control. They love dining on many of the creatures we don't want nesting in our homes, garages, sheds, e.g. snakes, mice, ticks, roaches. They are probably the single species who do so much to make OUR lives better, yet are so misunderstood & underappreciated. Just let them be & they'll do a lot of housekeeping for you! Opossums are AWESOME❣️

Looks like she she was shot, because not only is her eye terribly damaged, her ear is bloody and looks to have a big hole in it as well. I had one over the winter so by to sleep in the cat house. His whole forehead was split open from what looked like a cooling fan blade. It was so bad you could see his skull, but it eventually healed. They are such docile and resilient animals, but this one might need some intervention from a licensed rehab just to ensure her babies survive.
Luckily in the description it said mama is healing up well

Clearly, this animal has been in her yard before, and I’m sure they’ve developed a relationship at this point, at least that’s what it appears from this video. I’m not saying that the possum is comfortable with her or is going to act like a family pet but she’s definitely eaten in his yard before.
Put them in a sanctuary to help her eye.

Because they are INCREDIBLY intelligent & when we are kind to them, they are kind in return. Those of us who are familiar with the species, North Americas only Marsupial, realize all they as is to live & let live. Those of us who try to help them also try to ensure they know the good people from the bad, so they have safe places in this nation of rapidly diminishing wild spaces.
I feed feral cats , and the possums join in. One has 6 front toes.
I'm a grown ass man and nothing about this woman baby talking this opossum bothers me- I think its sweet. Also, I'm always amazed that the babies don't fall off - and once in a great while they do- but its extremely rare and considering the way they are attached, you'd think it would happen all the time. Finally, don't feel too bad about her eye...I'd say 1/3 of the wild opossums I encounter have an eye injury. Not sure why.

That wasn't a healthy angle for hanging, and her eye was being eaten. Next time you see this, call in a rehab wildlife service. They will catch her and her babies, and make sure she is treated and her babies are ok.

Best to leave wild animals alone, especially when they have babies. If it's any help possums are resistant to alot of infection because of their low body temp. Not all, but alot.

Good on you for calling her out. I agree. I think she should’ve grabbed the animal in that condition and given it a big hug to show what a compassionate person she is. Her love would heal the Opossum and it’s children

There are several opossums where I work at. They are always looking for food. Some big ones outside.
Opossums are pretty ugly.😄 They are more afraid of us,than we are of them.

What is it with humans? This lady thinks she and the opossum are bonding. Watch that possum's face: she is squaring off with the human, drooling at the mouth, to fiercely fight to protect herself and her babies. It would not surprise me if the lady reaches out to pet this cute little animal ! Probably not a good idea.
She is keeping her distance, better to keep an eye on her because she could get in trouble very easily in a neighborhood.
That possum would try to slink away and not one chance it would attack anyone. You could probably walk up there and pick it up.

Hey lady, you're probably helping to suffocate that baby possum at this point. If anything you should call around and try and see if a wildlife expert can help her eye situation. Put out some cat food, and leave her alone.
