I am a VATSIM enroute controller of many many years, and I will have to thank you for your video on this topic! Whilst not exactly a source of frustration, it's still tricky for us to deal with aircraft that are not able to fly an RNAV route we give them, because it's not what they originally loaded up in their FMS. Sometimes we can keep them on their original route, but other times this just leads to us having to essentially treat them as non-RNAV capable, and vector them around.
It is funny. I encounter this on Vatsim - and the next day you upload this video. I enjoy following your videos and detailed background info’s though I’m just a vatsim pilot. Go ahead!
I didn't realize that by entering the successive waypoint it will clean up the routing. I've been manually clearing out any skipped waypoints between the two...
Man I feel bad for you! 😂
Thanks. This is why I enjoy online flying as it can be fast time challenging. Recently, on approach to Berlin on Vatsim I was given a direct as you describe. I was landing on 25L but the way point given was on the approach to RW25R.(25L still for landing). I entered and flew to it. The challenge is then to find and pull up the approach chart relating to the way point and then enter the way point thereafter in the MCDU. ALL to be done in busy airspace with descent instructions et al. Priceless!!!
Liked and subscribed. These type of videos are for me the easiest way to learn.
Welcome!
Thanks for clearing this up!
Thank you very much for sharing all these valuable experiences with us during your leasure time ! I very much enjoy and treasure this format !
Hello captain, each tip you give us, makes us improve confidence and safety. Thanks a lot 🙏
Excellent thread, very much appreciated 😊
Thank you very much! Great info, as usual.
You're welcome!
Thanks - I wondered what to do in this situation.
Thanks a lot! That really helped. 👍😀
Great video, I needed it. Do you film your flight then do a voiceover or do you talk while you’re flying?
Thanks, Emanuel!
Thank you Emanuel for that .
Quite the same I'd like to ask for.
An approach change because of a wind direction change .
Approach in case of Frankfurt not via Hanau but via Mainz.
Most if the time this happens to me because of the outdated airrac😅
Being stupid I used to add the waypoint to the flight plan than DIR to it… 😢. Looking at the screen it says waypoint but I never considered you could just type it in, my bad 😩. Thx for the info I really appreciate these invaluable pieces of RL knowledge
You can of course do it that way round as well, but remember that ATC wants you to follow an instruction promptly, so often it is the better idea just to start to fly where they want you to go and *then* to match it into the flightplan than to do things the other way round.
When I directing to a waypoint, can I do an offset?
Is this common in real life over Germany airspace especially over Langen and Muenchen FIR? Because it happens on vatsim very often. I get a direct to to a waypoint not in my flight plan because most of the time, I was only cleared for a Star and not the transition and he contrôler gave me a direct to a waypoint of the transition I wasn’t cleared. Is this realistic ? Or shall I entered in the Mcdu the planned transition of the star even if I’m not cleared yet ? Happens a lot as well on vatsim at Loww with all the zig zag transition but at loww, they clear your for the transition before getting you a direct to (short cut)
Hello Emanuel,
Can you explain the Abeam waypoint feature, please?
I saw in Boeing aircrafts, that if you fly a Direct To, that the skipped waypoints can be abeamed.
Why is this function availble and what advantage does it have to abeam the skipped waypoints?
It might be used if you have to do a fuel check (and the direct might be several 100 miles) or if you have to be at a certain flight level / altitude during clb or des...
You tell ATC they are stupid so long till they give you vectors.
No, in that case I simply tell them what I'm doing and not asking them for anything anymore ;-)
@@A330Driver Yeah, at the end of the day, who really needs atc? 😂
For most of the time when i compare the charts with the arrival waypoints
I find that They are all inserted .. Unlike this situation you demonstrated
