Not counting the underhanded shenanigans that don't even get looked at because of technicalities, or the simple convenience of looking the other way when advantageous.

      Bank accounts in the EU are monitored in some way. I've had a polite enquiry about an "unusual" payment, which turned out to be a government pension sent through a different 3rd party from the usual.

It gives a disproportionate amount of power to wealthy individuals and corporations, who can directly influence policy. A bag full of cash makes most people forget their commitment to their constituents and start thinking about how to gaslight them instead.

    Corruption is no surprise, being able to punish it is what makes justice, nothing is perfect and adversaries will always poke and prod to exploit weaknesses and create weaknesses if there are none. I hope this investigation makes clear that accepting bribes for favors is unacceptable

      Lol They almost got away you know? The Greek VP was caught along with others because she said “Quatar is a leader in labor laws and peace keeper…”. No one even outside of EU thinks such country as Qatar (especially Middle Eastern countries) that they’re a leader of such roles.     The fact that high officials were caught highlights the fact that the european justice system somewhat works. I fully support EU institutions in their indevour to seek out and punish those who try to undermine EU's authority. Long live the European Union! Much love from Romania!❤🇷🇴🇺🇦

    The only way to contain this scandal is to take it serious and know that it is occurring right in the house. To have the confidence and trust, and to regain the reputation is to act on the justice. Else this would continue because no one takes a strong stance. Unbelievable, is and always been a house of hypocrisy and corruption. Few trying to do the right, but many hurt those that have made a step for good. A soft position would not change anything.

      Many times have I felt disappointment over EU. But then I look at how has been steadily helping in cultivating public processes and rule of law in my country. And while I was not impressed by the perceived slowness of reaction towards the Ukrainian crisis, I am afraid without the EU we would have no unified reaction at all, no real sanctions, sporadic help, individual countries taking advantage of each other.
      On the other hand, the fact that it is not a unified country, at least yet, helps protect democracy IMO.

      Considering how many avenues there are for politicians to accept such bribes and get away with it, for it to happen in such a brazen fashion as to have a massive pile of cash lying around in their home like a drug kingpin - is extraordinary!

    Finally, if you dont hear about somebody being caught because of corruption for a long time its a bad sign. Corruption is always present more or less, hearing about somebody being caught is always a good sign.
