For me he is the best player I've seen. I would like to read a book where he dictates his decisions made on the field. Just to see the game through his eyes. I believe his mind was one of his best attributes.
I've never seen a No 9 completely run a game the way he did. Loads of other scrum halves have had their special attributes, but FDP had an almost psychic ability to make the correct decision almost every time. He even knew how to put his forwards through gaps if he was on the other side of the field! I miss watching this champion play
I have watched them all since 1950 and some greats among them, Dawie de Villiers, Nelie Smit, and Joost van der Westhuize, but the best was Fourie du Preez.
As a black South African I have to say the only national team that has united the nation and made us proud over and over again has been the Springboks. Cricket and soccer have let us down as often as the Boks have made us proud. I love my country and these heroes 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
The humility of rugby players are just off the charts!! Here sits arguably the greatest thinking scrumhalf of all time sitting and chatting like he is some regular oak...
Talks about a balanced life, that was his game, best balanced player in the world. Just watch the first England game at the 2007 RWC and you will see one of the best performances of a rugby player and more so scrummie. Humble, intelligent and an absolute legend! Ps. I'm a province boy through and through
Another great show with a great player and gentleman.Fourie didn’t see Schalk coming like witblitz for that tackle. Jean cracked the biggest laugh ever with the best bad joke so far😂
This guy was so great at 9 that Springboks went through their most successful era without having a complete flyahalf. Butch James was not a game dictator and Morne Steyn was there as a specialist kicker. Can you imagine if Fourie Du Preez' prime coincided with a great fly half like Andre Pretorius in his prime. That 9/10 channel would've been insane
I always liked Butch James but I agree, he never seemed like an out and out 10. He seemed like he would have been more effective at 12, as long as he wasn't getting sent off for reckless play 😂 obviously nobody was taking JDV out of that Bok team when he was fit, but did they ever try Butch James at 12? Who replaced de Villiers when he got injured at the '07 WC? Was it Frans Steyn?
Great show fellows; it exemplifies why rugby is such a great world game; a suggestion - bring a few overseas (non-RSA) guys on to the show every now and again. Kudos to you all & many of your guests - doing it on air in your 2nd language ‘nogal’!
Definitely the best scrum half I’ve ever seen play the game! Great to learn a little about the person behind the player. Liked how much he spoke about balance. Great show Guys!
JDV YOU EVEN HAD ME LAUGHING 😂 LIKE CRAZY WITH THE FIRST BAD JOKE..😭🤣🇿🇦KEEP THE FIRE 🔥 BURNING YOU AND SCALLA..GREAT GUEST ON THE SHOW!!!BIG UP FOURIE DU PREEZ!FROM A CAPETONIAN IN THE UK!AT THE END OUR BLOOD WILL ALWAYS BE GREEN!🙏🇿🇦👊🏾👍
True, Ritchie McCaw should not have won that one in 2009, this awards are subjective. Even McCaw knew that he was not the best all round player that year. He was not too keen to receive the award but took it nonetheless.
At least we can watch it here unlike Supersport who don't even show (allow) any Currie Cup or Super Rugby highlights! Soooo stingy!! That was the only thing I enjoyed about the Rainbow Cup- the highlights!!
It's fascinating to see the juxtaposition between his slightly shy and socially awkward demeanor and then overlay that with his accolades as one of the greatest to have ever played the game.
As one of the loyal 38 viewers, I can say that this episode has been amazing! Great to hear Japan stories and learn about different approaches about rugby in different cultures. Keep the show these way - not too many questions, just true Rugby legends talking casually. This spirit of camaraderie is what makes Rugby great.
As a 10,from Kenya? But in club rugby n even high school played alot at 9,lol,thanks guys, uve cracked me up, sometimes the scrum half is the general of the team
@@mickser101 brother what you on Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson stop smoking the vaccine it's prohibited.fourie in 2009 was on another level .champion with bulls ,tri nation's winner ,beating the lions .All year he was the navigator of the Bokke .mentoring and guiding a young Morne steyn.Irony of all mccaw didnt even played a full season .Plus his abs lost 3 times against the Bokke .Bod what did he win that year.Bod was a skillful player in his day ,but not in a class of Frank bunce ,Daniel Gerber, Ma nonu ,jacque fourie ,jason little or Tim horan ..Can't understand why Bod gets talk as this superstar.Overrated period ...Fourie being rated as the toughest opponent by Graham Henry...
@@mamoersebaas2654 What he won with the Bulls in 09 is IRRELEVANT. Just Like BOD winning European Cup in 09 is irrelevant. @@queenelizabethii3635 Not so sure, as an Afrikaner myself more than half my day doing business is in English, obviously due to wanting a wider audience they put up the show in Englsih, a guy like Fourie du Preez is more comfortable in Afrikaans as most guys from Pretoria are. If their show was on a local Afrikaans channel their target market would be different.
Best nr 9 to ever play the game!
100% Agree
For me he is the best player I've seen. I would like to read a book where he dictates his decisions made on the field. Just to see the game through his eyes. I believe his mind was one of his best attributes.
Joost van der Westhuizen had by far the best pass.
I can't actually pick one. The Boks was blessed and still blessed to have super no 9's

Even a kiwi can acknowledge these 3 legends of the game. Enjoyed this interview.
I have watched them all since 1950 and some greats among them, Dawie de Villiers, Nelie Smit, and Joost van der Westhuize, but the best was Fourie du Preez.
Truly enjoy the show. Fourie was the best scrummy in green and gold. He could read the game like no other

Best scrumhalf ever for bulls and boks
Those Legendary Bulls VS Crusaders semi finals had international intensity.

Legendary rugby player, this dude would turn the tide every moment during a game. All 3 of these dudes were straight Beasts.
Greatest scrum half in the history of scrum-halfing💯

Such a great and humble man

Enjoyed his humility very much. Fantastic player!
best 9 I've seen, Aaron smith a close second

One of the greatest scrum-halves to have ever played the game! Even Aaron Smith has said Fourie Du Preez is his favorite.
Love the show from NZ. That hit on Fourie would've broken most guys, Schalk....respect, one of the most feared Boks in NZ.
Following you from Italy.

Best 9 ever
Just one word. ....... CLASS!
Most complete scrummie ever. Just GREAT
I once read an article that said Fourie Du Preez with one leg is still the best rugby player in the world - 100% agree.
How do you even start to pick your favorite Springbok rugby player ever? U start the list with Fourie du Preez. Miss seeing you in action Champ.

Awesome show....great stories from these legends....will tell all my fellow kiwis about this podcast
The legend himself Fourie the best 9 in history .
😂 🤣 The best moments of these episodes are the talks, off of the rugby field...

How the northern hemisphere voted against him not becoming world rugby player of the year 2009...Pathetic..
