Just to point out when they claim Corporation tax will reduce investment. The country in Europe with the highest inward investment is France who's corporation tax is one of the highest in Europe at 27.5%. This is because businesses don't care about profit they care about increasing the stock price for their shareholders, many modern companies don't even have dividends, so profit matters even less.
Eh.... French multinationals, eg. the top 40 French companies quoted in the Paris stock Exchange. the CAC 40, paid an effective 4.5% corporation tax in 2021. 🤣
One point of correction, you can’t pay a dividend without having some profit to pay it from. To say they “don’t have dividends, so profit matters even less” is to get it backwards. It makes more sense to say “they don’t have profit, so dividends matter even less”. They would be reducing their profit by paying dividends (and thus avoiding corporation tax).

My question is why all these commentators did not pick this up when Ms Truss was going round the country doing the hustings for the leadership of the party? Surely, it was obvious then!!!!
"She's one of us, I relate to her, she must be at least okay". When idiots select a leader...
I think you will agree that we in Scotland picked up on her lack of intelligence, tact and diplomacy
I blame the impartiality of the BBC putting both sides, if they have equal weight, when they don't. Just like brexit.
To be fair to Rishi, he did call it out and was very vocal about it.
@@csharpe5787 I'm an editor myself, and impartiality is *very* important. But so is common sense - impartiality does *not* mean giving a voice to fringe, extremist, niche or crackpot theories which represent a particularly small section of society.
The way the BBC seems to have gone is that if there was to be a panel on about, say, climate change - they'd also invite on someone to insist that there is no climate change because it's all a myth because he'd done his research and knows that the earth is a flat triangle which the universe rotates around, because That'd be impartiality working, BBC style.
Well said James.
Thank you for highlighting how small they have made the U.K. it doesn’t make me happy, just relieved I’m not alone with this reality.
Keep going James, wasn't ready for you to finish. Felt cathartic to hear that rant but as you say, "I told you so" sounds so hollow when we're all tipping over the waterfall in the same boat
Don't be afraid to tell him to slow down a bit so you can both finish together
And liz has buggered off with the oars
Just to point out when they claim Corporation tax will reduce investment. The country in Europe with the highest inward investment is France who's corporation tax is one of the highest in Europe at 27.5%. This is because businesses don't care about profit they care about increasing the stock price for their shareholders, many modern companies don't even have dividends, so profit matters even less.
You need customers to sell to before you can make profits. Supply side economics is bonkers.
Eh.... French multinationals, eg. the top 40 French companies quoted in the Paris stock Exchange. the CAC 40, paid an effective 4.5% corporation tax in 2021. 🤣
Aww bless. You think they are actually paying that 27.5%.
@@AJ-xv7oh are you du mb where did I say they paid it, I'm pointing out that lowering it doesn't do anything.

James, you keep us sane in an increasingly insane political world. Keep speaking the Truth!
Brilliant. Very important speech and well articulated.
Not only that, the looks of a Hollywood leading man too..
Nothing has been fixed, because the tories' acknowledgement of their mess, or ANY sense of Mea Cupa has yet to raise its head in public. It is TOTAL and UTTER arrogance and ego. They're all rotten, the lot of them! And Rishi is NOT an answer, just because he predicted the financial calamity. I did too, but that doesn't make me any more suitable. Humble Pie HAS to be order number 1, followed by finding an INTELLIGENT person who the tory base does NOT support, as they have totally proven themselves unfit to take informed and intelligent decisions about ANYTHING!! SHAME ON THEM WASTING TAXPAYERS' MONEY BY EVEN EXISTING....

A wonderfully passionate diatribe of the idiocies of modern media, James - well done! 🤣

Well done James and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day

James O'Brien is a superb commentator. The best in the Media.
Boy this guy is destroying them!
It was a "true Conservative budget," and its abysmal failure just goes to show how flawed right-wing economic ideology is!
I'm not sure that ideology is meant to benefit everyone, the richest 5 percent maybe.
James O'Brien is the only honest broadcaster on LBC he says it exactly like it is
nothing honest about the privileged man playing at being a champagne socialist
not the slightest bit biased??
No, not at all if you have been listening to LBC for as long as I have from the day it was first born and you know what I mean
If I’m not mistaken, it was roundabout, 1973, the first broadcast
Andrew Marr?
So glad to see a voice of sanity in Britain

Love listening to O’Brien. He is the best whinging and whining broadcaster I know.
Love how James O'Brien always calls Brexit a Self-inflicted wound The UK did to itself by Brexiteers who've been in denial since the Referendum.
I'm sorry to say that I've come to the conclusion that, the general public lack intelligence - obviously there are exemptions to this statement.
Just a couple of statements to back my point:
1) People voted to become poorer- Brexit.
2) The population, which is suffering financially overall, are voting for The Tories.
Is there a way forward?
Education, Education, Education.
Surely the way forward is “growth, growth, growth” 😂😂😂
Government makes me laugh. They honestly believe that if they manage to persuade the electorate that they didn't create the problem they're in the clear. NO PROBLEMS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE FAULT OF GOVERNMENT

People liked the idea of a the EU as a white club. It wasn't that anymore and the EU was used as a force to invite the world in and spread them around the EU member countries. The British thought this too unbearable to stay within an otherwise lucrative union as a trading block. But controlling ones borders is more important, for the sake of future generations, than cheap tradable goods.

@@AleXoEx0 but our borders are worse since we left the EU
@@glennbateman4483 I told you why the people voted out of the EU. it is not the people's fault if the government doesn't implement their will. Mainly because quietly our government believes in abolishing British people too and making Britain and Europe a totally multiracial federation with no unifying identity.
