      I laughed at this bit. Has he not heard of the Nissan factory in Sunderland. They were producing record numbers of cars and exporting them to the EU until recently. Brexit has ruined the 'Just In Time' supply chain and now the levels of production are a fraction of what they were. It's only a matter of time now until Nissan pull out of the UK. All thanks to complete muppets like Andy. Thanks a lot Andy, you're a legend.

      Those Ukrainian refugees being coders, mathematicians, nuclear scientists, doctors, etc... I hope they get back to their country once there is peace but it's the type of brain drain that cements an economic lead for decades if they stay and integrate into the economy. That UK is not even equipped or prepared because in a moment of a labour shortage they call asylum and refugee seekers invaders has got to be top shelf economic self sabotage. This guy distrusts leaders for their incompetence then proceeds to vote for the very same people he just called incompetent without the slightest hint of irony.

      Believing our house shortage, school places and NHS struggles would be helped by free movement is hardly intellectual. I would say the majority of people are just a mouth piece of the very people who profit from a supply of labour that outstrips demand.
      Where we are now cannot be completely contributed to us leaving the EU.
      Which by the way is also in a recession and also includes the US.

    • @AndyTomlins
      @AndyTomlins Год назад +20

      @@matthewfindlay9010 We don't have enough builders, teachers and nurses. Cutting off the supply of workers is hardly going to help that. Also in modern supply side economics the supply of labour is always the limiting factor. Increasing costs due to labour shortages is hardly going to help the people at the bottom that are hit hardest by the cost of living crisis. Thats why we introduced a minimum wage so labour supply cannot drive down wages of the lowest paid. Labour shortages driving inflation will whack them though.
      The US isnt in recession its economy grew 4.4%. Neither is the EU. Ours shrank .8%.

It didn't help that they got given everything at every stage of their lives too, now they're getting to the end of said lives and they're no longer the centre of attention, but they're still a MASSIVE demographic (hence "boomer", for baby boom") so they still vote in droves and demand to be heard still. They voted their children's and grandchildren futures away just because they felt like they were entitled to more attention. They'll all be dead or dying by the time things get to their worst. As a Canadian, a third country citizen, it makes no difference for me to enter UK (where I live before Brexit) or Germany (where I live now after Brexit) I guess I don’t feel the heat as much, but I did move to Germany because of Brexit. As a former short-term Londoner, all my friends are remainers. I can almost guarantee you that most people who voted to leave don’t even know what EU is all about. My German partner will tell you that, without EU, the hassle of exchanging currencies, and the restrictions on movement of goods. Considered Germany had one of the strongest currencies in Europe before the EU, the Germans would still tell you that it is better being in the EU than being the outside of it. Imagine all the small European countries having to negotiate separately with all the trade deals, and deal with the fluctuation of the currencies. And if not for the EU, I reckon Russia would invade as many small European countries as they can, seeing the way they strong arm their military. I don’t know, that’s just my guess, but judging by all the superpowers in the world, at least the EU is on a level playing field with the alliance.

      Unfortunately, it started even earlier in the UK: with Brexit. The anti-EU rhetoric had been building since the 2000s (Farage and his UKIP populist party) but reached a crescendo around 2015 with the announcement of there being a referendum to finally decide our status in the EU....long story short the rightwing populists, which covers most of the British press, and the populist politicians like Farage and Johnson confected a campaign to convince enough disenfranchised to vote against their own best interests and vote to leave the biggest and most successful trading bloc in the world - all to enrich the rightwing elites in the UK, of course. James O'Brien has been trying to hold people to account from day 1....but the populist idiocy, like Trump in the USA, knows no bounds! As you can see in these interviews: "I am right and I don't care about your 'facts'!! My mind is made up."
