Not surprising - the Business Train is typically overbooked - it was true of Metroliner Service - which Acela Express replaced - it was why I only took the Metroliner once (and stood from Philly to Baltimore) - and have never taken Acela Express at all. Hopefully that will change this Bird Day - with a trip to Boston via Acela Express (DC to Boston South Station - first trip by train in two decades plus -and first trip via Acela Express at all).

That's because it's New York City. There is barely any space for anything there so the entire train station is underground. The rest of it is at grade or above (the second station the train stopped is above street level)
There is no such thing as an "Acela HHP8". They are both real motors, but not one in the same. There is an Acela and there is a HHP8. The Acela is a trainset (with 2 power cars), the HHP8 is just a motor.
I know, it's something that confused me. They may look alike at first, but you have to realize the HHP8 has cabs at both ends, which are more rounded. Also the Acela power cars are permanently connected to the coaches. What's even more confusing is how the HHP8 sometimes has the acela logo on it since it was the brand name for all NEC trains at the start of the century.
Zeffers716 The Northeast corridor trains all had the "Acela" brand name for a few years starting in 2000, with the regular trains being "Acela Regional" and the Clockers being "Acela Commuter." This time is when the HHP-8s were built; they didn't remove the logo after "Acela" became only for the high-speed trains.

Theswagsh0w No. The conductor will walk around with a scanner looking to scan your ticket. If you don't have one he will expect for you to pay or they will have Amtrak police waiting for you at the next train station.
